Now I am confused? And MacCritics says that taxes aren't included in iTMS...

http://www.maccritic.com/print/193_0_13_0_M

It's really confusing, and MacCritic doesn't say why he thinks the price is definitely plus taxes. The terms of service quote is not crystal clear to me in saying that taxes are a separate transaction later on; could just be standard @ss-covering legalese to prevent users from weaseling out of paying somehow.

Anyway, Apple not clearly saying "tax included" is not a good sign. If taxes were included, it would be a big selling point. Really big, since sales tax is as high as 15% in Canada.

So, until my credit card statement comes in, I'll assume it's plus tax. Which is, in many cases, still a great deal. Consider the Nirvana box set. Out of 64 tracks, about 60 are worth having (if you're into Nirvana, of course). You get them for $29.97 minus the DVD and plus an hour-long interview. Tax or no tax, that's way better than the UK or US iTMS or a physical copy, assuming the DVD isn't much of an attraction for you.

One Satisfied Customer...

Well I bought my first iTMS song this morning (the new Hip track!) No problems at all. I will be giving iTMS Canada lots of $$$ in the future!

I am however disappointed in the rather negative attitude already taken by some of my peers way up here in the Great White North. We all need to consider what's involved in licensing an entire country's worth of unique music -- many bands and labels having absolutely no experience in digital music rights issues. Not to mention, the endless English/French politics that we still can't escape in Canada. So I am sorry if your favourite obscure Saskatchewan 80's hair band is not yet listed on iTMS ON THEIR VERY FIRST DAY OF OPERATION, cry me a river! But today we can buy three-quarters-of-a-million songs for less than a loonie that we couldn't buy yesterday. Yes this is the lowest relative price of any iTMS country. And I'm sure more CanCon will be added in the coming weeks and months.

Apple has come through for its customers yet again, and that's progress in any language.

Well, I'm not reading through 627 replies, so let me just say this is great news, I'll definitely be making great use out of the Store, and it's great to see that we now have the lowest relative pricing as well of all the iTMS stores. Well done Apple, way to treat us Canadians right!

Come on, you made it through the first 765 posts for the last thread Shard, why not read 625 more?

Haha, oh god, there were WAY too many posts on these last two threads, I need a Macrumors vacation.

Duff-Man says...exactly. And I am sure it has been said earlier in this thread too (might even have been me!). People are so quick to blame Apple when it is the record companies and independent artists that need to get on the beam. Give it a chance folks - they'll no doubt be tons of stuff added over the coming months and once it really takes off (eh) those that were undecided will be scrambling to get onboard....oh yeah!

One thing I noticed and found interesting was that when you just browse the music store by artist, there are A LOT of artists in that browse list with absolutely no songs so hopefully that means they'll be filling those in soon.

Yah, and that was only the last thread, let alone the "iTMS Canada Tomorrow?" thread that wouldn't die, "iTMS Canada Nov. 26" thread, "iTMS Canada in July" thread... I'm done with these iTMS Canada threads, thank you!

Well alright, maybe a couple more posts...

to change the store back to English:
1. Switch Store to the UK Store
2. Switch back to the Canadian store

to switch to French
1. Switch to France's store
2. Switch back to the Canadian store

round-about way of doing it...but it works

Do you get the impression that someone forgot to initialize a variable in a constructor somewhere? :D

Soon. But the big news is apparently they've had to use a different address. Due to cybersquatting issues, the address for iTunes Canada is:

http://puretracks.ca

HTH!

Did anyone else in Canada get this message? Wondering if since I'm in the US, not allowed to view.

Thank you for visiting Puretracks.com

Currently our website supports Internet Explorer 5.0 and above on the
Windows operating system (Win 98SE / ME / 2000 / XP / 2003),
and is available to Canadian residents only.

We value our Mac audience, however the Windows Media player for the Mac
platform is not currently compatible with Microsoft protected audio content.
Puretracks is currently working to make our service available to Mac users.

Right, I forgot to mention: due to patent issues, Apple has been unable to use AAC/Fairplay in Canada. As a temporary workaround they've started selling in WMA format until they can get it sorted out.

god I hate puretracks.....not supporting my iPod.....the bastards....

Why would anyone want an iPod? It does not support industry standard WMA format. :D

Anyway, they support iPod as long as you have Windows machine with CD burner. Just buy your music, burn a CD, rip a CD to iTunes and copy to iPod.

:D :D :D

Lost in the Snow, eh?

I'm heading out to buy the new U2 iPod right now. I've just lost my white 40-Gig in the snow. (Third time since July...) I wish Apple would make a black and red iBook too. I know mine's around here somewhere....

You think that's bad? I've gone through three white cars in the last year! Same problem ... I park them, go inside can't find it again!

:D

P.S. No joke, that actually happened on one of the ski hills on Vancouver island a couple of years ago (Mt. Washington). They had an incredible snow fall overnight that actually buried the staff cars in the parking lot! There was some incredibly funny footage of people going to where they through their cars were, and then starting to dig down to see if they could find them.

Funny, that is, as long as it wasn't one of your cars down there.

Taxes must be included

In my online credit card statement (the one from the bank) I was charged for my two iTunes purchases that I made when the store opened.

$1.98 total.

So, I would say thats .99 a piece, all inclusive.

Pretty excellent value. I can't imagine an extra charge coming later for taxes. There's no good reason for Apple to invoice them separately, creates more work, confusion and complaints. Not expecting to be charged any more than I have been.

You're right, if Apple did charge later on for taxes in one big go, they would be in trouble within days - it doesn't say that they can do this anywhere. I'm surprised they don't write 'Inc. Taxes' anywhere on the iTMS site. I would have thought it's something they would want to promote..?

Censorship?

Has anyone else remarked upon the censorship in the text to be found on the Canadian store? It looks like any words or song titles that might be offensive (or even imagined to be offensive) are being starred out.
I noticed it first at the Cure's bio page where Pornography was titled P*********y. Then I noticed it again on the Count Basie bio, where they have done the same thing with the word prostitution. Checking the same page at the US store shows no such censorship. In fact, it seems to be applied to any word that might be offensive, regardless of context. It looks like there's a list of dangerous words that some bot has gone over and cleaned up.
