This is craziness.
Therefore, even though I'm in BC, because I'm connected thru what I can only imagine is a Quebec based ISP (Groupe-Telecom), I'm forced to receive french on my iTMS Canada pages.![]()
Connecting thru Shaw appears in English.
If you browse by genre, you can select French Pop and see that they have a couple of québecois:boubou1961@mac. said:I just want to put to your attention that no french-speaking artists are featured (except Celine Dion and Garou from Sony music) are featured in the store.
Not even the classics of french canadian culture are featured.
Names like
Michel Rivard
Beau Dommage
Robert Charlebois
Marie-Chantal Toupin
Éric Lapointe
Mario Pelchat
Gilles Vignault
Félix Leclerc
All those artists are major sellers in the province of Quebec, some of them even became stars in Europe.
This is a bloody shame!

In any case, I'm in Trois-Rivières, Québec, connecting via Bell's DSL and everything is in english (so is my Windows XP and iTunes).
Maybe iTMS displays in french depending on your OS and/or iTunes version?
It's NOT IP related... We use a Bell Nexxia connexion here, and the store that I've seen in english this morning is now in french...jicon said:Nope... this is IP related.
Windows XP SP2 running iTunes 4.7 with my regional settings set to English(US).
Going thru Shaw, no problem. Going thru GT, I get the French with a little bit of English version.

Lazulia said:yup does the same to me too. If I switch to the uk store, then back to canada, it stays all in english, then if I switch the france store then back to canada, it's in franglish, a bit of french here, a bit of english there...
Anyone has a clue on why this is happening??
Au pire allez, ça ne peut que te permettre de pratiquer ton français...jicon said:Looks like we have a viable solution.
Thanks.
This was being done with two different machines... but seemed very suspicious. I could have sworn the one machine was last linked to the US store though.

Those prices does not include G.S.T. - I am sure of it. So in fact, we are paying 1.07$ per song, maybe even 1.15$ per song if P.S.T. does take effect here...macbing said:You know - a couple of things occur to me here:
-does the 0.99 include the GST? It should, by law, and that alone might have held up the negotiations (Picture this: Record Exec for a Canadian subsidiary of a US record Company suddenly realizes that not only is 0.99 worth 0.85 US, but that Apple is going to have to pay 7% GST - I'm betting the server is in Calgary, btw, so they can avoid PST - so the real amount the song is being sold for is probably about 80 cents US, Apple takes it's cut and the US record company is pissed off).
-the technical challenge of getting this to work in two languages is pretty cool. Maybe it's not working quite right yet, but wow - they haven't had to do that before.

When you go to HMV, is it written 16.99$ plus tax on the label?autopilot said:wouldn't they have to make that clear then? like post the inevitable "plus tax" message somewhere?
if they're selling them for "$0.99" in the store, and then my credit card bill shows the tax, i will be PISSED![]()
Laurent said:When you go to HMV, is it written 16.99$ plus tax on the label?
No, the white "regular trans-canada price" doesn't include any written comment concerning taxes. When you go shopping, you are suposed to include taxes to everything you buy. Look at Wal-Mart, Zellers, Sears... The only places I can think of, where taxes are included in the price (at least in Québec) is provincial liquor stores (S.A.Q.) and petrolium products.autopilot said:hmm, good point.
i used to work at hmv. i know the coloured "sale" stickers don't, but i'll trying to remember if the white "regular price" stickers do...
i guess what you could compare it to is ordering a coffee from starbucks: "plus applicable taxes" is clearly visible on the menu board.
is that logical?![]()
Everyone acts as if we're getting this great deal. In $US, our music costs less, but in absolute numbers, we pay a similar amount - an average album might be $13-18, and from what I understand that's about what Americans pay.macridah said:The canadians are getting a good deal on music, what's up with that. Well good for them i guess. This should help relations with canada and the US since bush messed it up ... jk.
Laurent said:I would love it if retail stores were forced to display the price including all taxes (like in France), but unfortunately, that's not the case...
