According to one unconfirmed source, marketing materials are being completed for a November 26th announcement of a localized version of the iTMS for Canada. Details are slim, but songs are expected to be listed at $0.99 Canadian.
Not a bad deal for Canadian customers, considering the 78¢ Canadian dollar...

Wow, not much interest for such a big news (if true, of course). I really hope it's true this time, because it's not the first time this rumor comes up...

I hope it's true, it would be great if Apple finally starts bringing iTMS to more than four countries. I wonder what's happening in Europe as rumours mills have been quiet for some time now, which is surprising as it's October 12 already and the opening of the pan-European store should be imminent. There's to hoping...

I would be a big supporter of the iTMS Canada, but I've been burned on enough of these rumours that I'm taking a "I'll believe it when I see it" attitude. If and when the iTMS shows up, I'll give credence to MacRumours, but this is the third time a rumour of this time has been posted (in my counting).

I thought the same thing - but then again, this is page 2 for a reason :)
$0.99 is perfectly reasonable for the country. PureTracks, Canada's equivalent of O2 in England, sells most tracks for $0.99 and most albums for $9.99. It's WMA only, and has a sucky interface, but it's one of the only services around, and a lot of third-party services are just rebranding PureTracks these days. iTMS can't come soon enough.

the source is a very good friend of mine working in a major canadian music publisher and distributor. She is in marketing for the project, working on this and other joint ventures with apple. She also said there is going to be more than just this announced on november 26th (perhaps an apple toronto store?)

I am trying to get more info from her, but with confidentiality agreements, she is very hesitant to do so. I still consider the nov. 26th date to be true.

If this is true, then instead of Canada moaning about how everyone else has ITMS, everyone else will be moaning about how ITMS Canada charges only $.77 U.S. I guess turnabout is fair play...

Yeah, but the way our dollar is going all too soon we'll be complaining about how the Americans are only paying $0.77 CDN! :D

Yes, we'd have a bunch of Americans trying to purchase iTunes through Canadian stores, just like we have with prescription drugs and on-line Canadian pharmacies...

Traditionally, though, I agree, Canadians have frequently been hosed by Apple Canada with respect to prices and exchange rates.

No, you misunderstood. The _rumor_ was going to be on June 15th, not the store!

Fortunately we get frequently servicepacked rumors so it's never out of date.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Stop teasing us poor, already wounded from no hockey season Canadians!

I wish this were true - but i have no faith.

If apple was bringing itunes to us they might want to get their hands on the itunes.ca website. As of today the site is still pointing to musicdownload.ca. If they haven't already sent a cease a desist order there i doubt a launch is imminent.

just my 2 cents

Couldn't Apple own the site already and redirect it anywhere they want?

I hope this is true but I like others here will beleive it when I see it.

Oh and to those who are complaining that the Canadian price will seem lower than the US one remember that we have much less purchasing power so something that costs us .77c US would normally cost you .99c take a look at the price of cars or computers or even hamburgers. We pay significantly less for the same product than you do in US dollars but we also on average make less money and so our purchasing power is lower as well.

Yes, but the current predications are for an $0.85 CDN dollar to appear before then end of the year -- so the gap, and hopefully the complaining, will narrow :)

Leroy
