Just something I noticed while putting the date of November 26 into my day planner...

Why do it on a Friday? The 23rd is the traditional "new realease" Tuesday, while Thursday is American Thanksgiving, so would they really release it on the day after Turkey day?

I seem to remember Panther coming out on a Friday, but otherwise is this likely?

Apple Canada won't be concerned with releasing near American Thanksgiving. We just had ours. Only thing different up here on that day is the television schedule. :p

This definitely sounds promising. The National Post is one of the 2 major national papers (other being the Globe and Mail) in Canada. And I must say it's about damn time, considering so many of the popular artists are coming from Canada now. And I personally can't wait to see an Apple Store in the Eaton Centre... :D

well, you are welcome for getting the news about a week early. I know it was unverified so they had to stick it on page 2, but hopefully in the future I can be considered a more reliable source.

My source at a major canadian music distributor says that the date isn't changing either, since the date is on all their promotional materials. Perhaps they will announce it before the general release however, and allow a week of two for marketing before it goes live.

Problem is Global has a tendency to be only one step away from tabloid reporting :(

I'll be less skeptical when it hits a real news source.

It was reported in the National Post/Financial Post though too, was it not? Or does Global own them? ;)

Yup :) It annoys me how many times I'm watching Global news, and they stop 1/2 way through the story and say "read the rest in tomorrow's National Post".

I've still got my fingers crossed, though!

Gotcha, I figured as much. I have my fingers crossed as well - for some reason this rumor feels more "right" to me than the earlier one in summer. Let's hope it's true!

Yeah, 3/4 of the rest of the world already has it so there's no longer an execuse :D

I look forward to the chance to start buying music again!

Well I wouldn't go so far as to say 3/4 of the world has it... ;) But, quite a few countries have it now, so I say it's definitely a good time for us to get in on it!

I think this rumour is true (at least the part about the date). Apple has been working with Canadian regulatory agencies for some time, and should have things sorted out by now. The only thing I'm not sure about is price, because unless Apple has a better deal with the industry for its Canadian store than it has for its U.S. store, it will lose money selling tracks at the equivalent of 80¢ U.S.

That, I suspect is 90% of what's been holding it up.

The other 10% would be the CRIAA trying to get special considerations to enforce in contract restrictions that the courts have said are not implied by law.

And why would they lose money? Don't forget the CDs over here cost a lot less than in the USA. We regularly have brand new CDs on sale for under 15$CAN (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/dept.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dept=16&WLBS=fsweb22&cat=Music&catid=16).

Besides, the other on-line music stores also have tracks at 0.99$CAN.

I've never noticed that but it sure does get annoying, but then again it's one of the only media corps in canada not based in either montreal, vancouver or toronto :)
gotta love the formerly-local asper family
...
I've bought CDs for 7.99 easily, i even bought a CD for 7.99 CDN only a few months ago, and other for 10.99CDN, while the same cd in the states (not an import either) was 20.00 US, one of the first times apple isnt gypping canadians due to exchange rate ;) but then again at this rate the canadian loon could be worth a buck us in a year or two's time

Yes, but you pay less to buy an album than you spend buying each track on the album - there's a mark-up on individual tracks compared to the price of the album. Also, from what I've read, iTunes is about the only online music distrubutor that's making money right now.

I VERY much doubt Apple isn't making a bundle off of iTms... They are probably
including all the overheads they can in order to claim that the cost of the music to them is quite expensive... especially when you look at the money it costs in Europe to buy music.

iTMS canada, rest of europe etc.

Not many Tuesdays left in October to fulfill the promise of new launches. Can I play an updated iBook on my iPod? NO... :p

Couldn't Apple own the site already and redirect it anywhere they want?
Actually, I suspect they will simply send you to the right store depending on your IP address, similar to how Google automatically redirects people from google.com to google.ca, except rather than re-directing, they will prolly just present Canadian-specific content.

It's sort of like sites that detect you are using a Mac and giving you Mac download links on the main page.

Kind of.

Like.

You want to play an updated iBook on your iPod? Which model, the 12" or the 14"? And this has something to do with iTMS Canada, how, exactly?

I don't want some of what you're smoking...

I now see Danish music in the music store. This is definitely a good sign! Tuesdays coming, my credit card is ready!

Every Tuesday used to announce something other than iTMS is well not used to announce iTMS in Canada, Denmark etc. So from a totally selfish point of view I don't want updated iBooks, I want iTMS :p

100% non-smoker!

Gotcha, thanks for clearing that up... Nothing wrong with being selfish... ;)

Holy Cow! I think they mixed up the months. I have "cool" feeling we are getting iTunes music store in Canada on October 26th and not November 26th :)

We very well might find out in a couple days! If nothing is announced on Tuesday though, perhaps it will indeed be November 26th instead. Not preferable, but better than not at all... ;)
