Seen a lot of third party keyboard bugs but unsure if that's down to iOS or the keyboards. iOS 8 is abysmal on my iPad 2.

Also had a few crashes. It is definitely the most unstable iOS version I can remember.

I've had no problems with my iPad Air since I upgraded to Windows 8, as long as I don't turn it on its perfect. I just put it back in its shrine and it looks beautiful, thanks Timmy.

Not sure how much there is to LOVE about iOS 8 at this point. Extensions and quick reply are about it. Everything else has been pushed back to October. Honestly at this time its the most lackluster update ever , even more than iOS 6.

Himhhhh ....Continuity.
Handoff works so well so does phone calls its only sms that got delayed and icloud photo library.
I keep forgetting I can use my iPad to make calls now is so sweet.
Ios 8 is far from lackluster, I mean what do you people expect hardly any apps have been updated yet.

iOS 8 a buggy, rushed out the door, mess. Crashes, freezes, features that used to work no longer do, unoptimized apps for the 6+, not many developers taking advantage of iOS 8 extensions (looking at you photo apps), iCloud Photo Library or Photostream wants to duplicate photos I want to edit in the "photos" area but not the "recently taken" area, Camera Roll (didn't developers know about this?), Family Sharing clearly doesn't work as expected, etc.

This is the worse release ever for iOS and Apple.

I had this same experience until this weekend when I finally snapped and uninstalled a bunch of apps, shut down my phone, restarted it and reinstalled those apps. And since then the phone has greatly improved. Battery is still garbage but the rest of the phone is much, much better. And those apps were: official twitter app, official Facebook app, shazam and Facebook paper. Both Twitter and Facebook were just whacked out after the OS update. Particularly twitter. I recommend you clean install the apps that are bothering you the most. But restart your phone before re-installing them. :)

iOS 8 was a mess until the public release. I used a few of the betas and installed the GM and was disappointed. Battery life sucked and there were a lot of graphical issues.

I know the GM and public release are the same thing but since doing an OTA upgrade it's been great for me. Just as a smooth as 7.1.2 for me.

One - have had an issue with the keypad showing up looking sort of like a badly done pencil drawing. Shutting and opening it again resolves it.

Aside from that, it's FAR better than in the past. My wife had the battery sapping thing, but steps taken in the past (disable auto updating, background app refresh, etc.) fixed it.

I don't understand closing all the features that make a smartphone a smartphone. If you do that you might as well get a flip phone.

Now cell service and TouchID don't work.

THIS IS TIM COOK'S APPLE.

Step 1: New software release has bugs
Step 2: People who have no idea about the insane complications of any software act surprised that 100 percent of stuff isn't working perfectly

You know how you get software without bugs? You have software that doesn't do much. Or no software. I've had iOS 8 for a couple of weeks now, since the GM was available. The occasional software hang, that's been about it for me on a 5s.

There is no way to eliminate bugs completely from software that is going to get this many users before the users get the product. There just isn't. The key is Apple fixes stuff quickly, as could be seen with the turnaround on 8.0.1. There's already a soft fix for the new bugs in 8.0.1, and I'm guessing 8.0.2 will be up in a day or so.

Why do you even excuse this?

It is just bad testing, and bad engineering. If the MacRumors Forum can find all the bugs in a couple of days, so should a multi billion dollar company be able.

They have huge management issues since Jobs' death.

This statement also applies to:

iOS 7
iOS 6
iOS 5
iOS 4
iPhone 5/S
iPhone 4/S
iPad
iPad mini
Mac OS 10.10
Mac OS 10.9
Mac OS 10.8
Mac OS 10.7
Retina Macbook Pro
iMac (2013)
Mac Pro (2013)

How many more disasters and mistakes will Apple make?

in a strange way, you're completely correct. Today I found myself missing my 2009 3GS with iOS 3.... no kidding. Those were simpler, superior and comfortable times.

The only bug that I've experienced is my iPad Air's inability to maintain a solid connection on any 5Gb WiFi network. It does fine on a 2.4Gb network.

My wife's 5s was generally sluggish. She disabled "WiFi Networks" in Privacy -> Location Service -> System Services and it pepped right up. I did the same with my Air, but I didn't notice any difference (I hadn't noticed any performance problems, though).

The only odd iOS8 thing that I've seen is that some apps use the old keyboard. When they do that, third party keyboards won't work on either of my devices (I'm a Swiftkey guy from when I had a GS3.) My understanding is that it's an unoptimized app issue, not so much an iOS bug.

Doesn't mean that nobody else is having problems - there are probably combinations of apps and settings that bork things up. Our phones and iPad are pretty vanilla.

Oh...we didn't even look at 8.0.1.

To be clear, there is no excuse for the disaster that is iOS 8.0.1 on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Sometimes, bugs affect certain people in certain circumstances, and that can be hard to test for. But this affects every single iPhone 6 and 6 Plus updated OTA. I don't understand how this could have left Cupertino.

What I don't understand is why people go insane when this kind of thing happens. I'm sitting here on my crippled iPhone 6 with no way to fix the issue for the rest of the day, and somehow I'm managing to be happy. Not with Apple, certainly not. But my life doesn't revolve around my phone... I'll live.

And so will everyone else.

It's clear with iOS 8, this is Tim Cook's Apple.

This update is a disaster. I constantly get crashes like at least 3 a day. Apps freeze. Apps that load to blank screens. Battery usage is horrible. For people that rely on their phones, this is a major disappointment. Tim Cook says it just works. Sorry Tim, it doesn't.

I don't know, iOS 8 seems quite solid on my iPhone 5. All in all, its does not seem like a huge update over iOS 7, but the phone is smoother, the UI and animation are smoother and more coherent now. All in all, its a nice quality of life update without any drastic changes. In addition, continuity has already proven to be quite useful.

It is polished, but we can't enjoy it when it can't stay connected to the Internet! (and now to the carrier)

They pulled the same crap last year, for the first 6 months of iOS 7 we had continuous safari & springboard (OS) crashes..

Maybe it's because I came from Android so I'm used to something always going wrong with software updates, but I'm willing to be patient.

Yeah, the 8.0.1 is a true disaster, an issue of that caliber should not have gotten through the QA... I'm very happy I didn't do the upgrade immediately

Can you share your patience with other MacRumors users? I'm not sure there's very much of that around here.

If this is your first iPhone, I'm really sorry your experience has started out like this. I like to think this will be a wake-up call to the iOS team at Apple.

Lol right? No I switched over to Apple back in March. Overall it's been a much better experience. Issues like what happened today happen to all companies. No use in freaking out.

I also wonder how the "someone should be fired" crew would feel if they lost their ability to earn a paycheck because of one mistake.
