Why do threads like this make people so mad?

Because generally they can achieve nothing, and consequently seem intended only to irritate.

We have no idea what anyone on this forum does outside of their time here. The excited posters talking about their Watches could be CEOs of charities or enterprises dedicated to making life better for the vulnerable or poor. They could be people who have been saving for this for months, and who will have no other "treats" in their life. They might be people who do not have a lot more in their life "to be excited about".

I really don't care if people get super excited about technology, but threads like this make me stop and think for a minute.

Thinking does nothing to help the "less fortunate" (for lack of a better term). Unless and until someone cancels their order and donates or uses the money in pursuit of a charitable cause, it doesn't achieve anything at all, and neither does trying to guilt trip people for being excited about money they've already decided to spend.

Frankly, I'm delighted to see people so excited about their Watches. If someone is going to spend money on something, I would definitely prefer it meant something to them than be something they didn't care about.

The money's going to be spent either way, so why shouldn't people get as much value and enjoyment out of it as possible?

How is this the wrong forum? Just because this all about tech stuff does not mean there can be some actual talk about things that matter. We are still talking about the Apple watch, but the fact that maybe its not as important as we think. Maybe your in the wrong forum.

Other people here do indeed have a moral sense that tells them the relative importance of this in comparison to the more serious woes of the world.

This forum is where we come to talk about, hang out with others, and share our excitement/frustration/etc in the context of the *gadget forum* that this is.

We all know this and it comes across as a touch arrogant for someone to think they have some more refined sense of ethics than the poor unwashed masses here overly obsessed about the latest gadget and that they need to remind us of the relative importance of what we're discussing. Get over yourself.

I read it because I chose to. Your opinion of my post is yours to have. That's great.

I also will like and dislike posts based on my perspective.
I never once said you could not do that. You are the one that said my post was in the wrong forum. I was just suggesting that by you posting you are only helping the "wrong" forum post to get more traction. I just don't see why you feel the need to post on something you feel has not place here.

Actually that's exactly what you did. Maybe honesty should be a pursuit in your enlightened perspective;)

I see what you are saying, but I don't mind post like this. I do some charitable donations, but I could always do more. This post made think maybe I could do more if I decided not to spend money on that next gadget I think I need. I am not getting the AW, but it still applies to other gadgets for me. I don't know maybe I am just one of the few people that does not mind post like this.

It's just a TV show!

No I did not do any of the sort. I suggested that you were only helping the post get traction. Maybe you should go back and read my post. I believe your first quote of mine was simple "wrong forum" saying I should not make my post here. I believe you were the one telling me were to post.

Well, I'm glad some good came out of it. (Not sarcasm; I actually am.)

I think the reason people really mind is because it seems petty and spiteful to make a post of this nature in a place where people come to congregate to talk about something they love. It's harshing their buzz with almost no positive outcome.

It's the same as going to a Sports Bar during a game and shouting that everybody there should calm down: you're fully entitled to your opinion about their excitement, but to express it in a place where people go, almost exclusively, to revel in that excitement makes you look like you just want to spoil people's good time. And very few people are going to thank you for that.

People need a little excitement in their lives. For them to get it from something as innocuous as a piece of technology is a good thing, in my mind.

Yeah you are right. I guess I did not take the OP's post that way. I read it more of him saying its cool to get excited about the AW, but also in all the excitement we can think about some really important stuff. I guess I am just a bit jaded with all the stupid post that get made in these forums. "My phone, watch, or tablet will not be on my front door step right at 10am on launch day. Is anyone having this life threatening situation?" I know that is a bit over the top, but sometimes I feel the small things people get upset about are just crazy.

I am glad people are pumped about their watches. I love that macrumers can offer us a place to do that. Sorry if I came across as arrogant. I am not trying to be that at all.

Seems like every release we get a few of these guilt-ridden folks.

Sure, what they are saying may be true, but you should let us have our excitement. These people are the kid who always showed up to ride bikes with knee pads, elbow pads, and a helmet.

Patiently waiting for my 42mm SG Sport that I ordered at 5 after the floodgates opened.

But for real folks, stop for a minute and remember....ITS JUST A FREAKIN' WATCH! There are starving children out there. Remember what you have and count your blessings. Think about the poor person who's fingers are bleeding assembling these watches at record pace for just a few dollars per day. Thank a vet.

Ridiculous statements like this really bother me. Unless you want to be a hypocrite, get off your high horse and put actions where your mouth is. Cancel your order and donate the money to a worthy cause. Then you can climb back onto your high horse and preach all you want. Until then, just ..... it.

Sometimes people focus their frustration on small things because the big things are either too big or too abstract to express frustration about. Everyone has something in their lives that's difficult or painful, but they're not always things people feel comfortable venting their unhappiness about.

There's also the issue of reliability and expectation. People have come to rely on certain things like Apple releases or whatever because there are so many unreliable things (important ones, like health and finance and opportunity and love) in their lives, and they expect those things to remain reliable. When they prove to be otherwise, it's upsetting.

I take your point, and I'm sure we can definitely come across as a bunch of petulant and spoiled brats, lol. But I think it helps to remember that this is a) only a tiny fraction of what anybody here says or does in their day, and b) a rare place where people feel comfortable being completely honest about the depth of their disappointment or excitement.

At the end of the day, it's just an outlet for people, and that's not such a terrible thing.

Ok.

Quick question. If I get the watch do I got to hell?
I know that is all sarcasm, but you have your opinion I have mine. Instead of just posting wrong forum maybe you could actually give your argument and respectfully discuss a topic, but that does not seem to happen much here.

My opinion...

It's right in line with the previous dude that compared the OP to going to a sports bar and telling everyone to chill cause it's just a game.

I would needle a fellow like that. Of course you have your opinion. That's great.

I'm a grown man and provide for my family. My wife is a cop and works nights dealing with people who are insane. I tutor 75 kids a week one on one.

I'm here because I dig gadgets and ordered a watch.

OP tells everyone to chill. I think that's dumb. That's my opinion. Who named him or you the head Buddha?

This is the patch of internet where nerds come to nerd.
