LOL, man that would be way over doing it!! EVEN for me!! :)

Actually I've thought about 23x2 ACD's. And even thought about keeping the mac pro and selling the 17" mbp and use the funds to get a macbook air + another 23" ACD.

But no way I want to give up this 17" hi res hehe.

LOL a friend of mine did that, he kept everything and bought the two displays. He is the same guy that got me to buy a mac pro. The most insightful information I have heard about macs is they have a tendency to breed.

Wow I'd love to see 30"x2 ACDs.. I've never seen the mac pro connected dual monitor mode.. I bet its wonderful.. maybe that'll change my mind from selling?? I already think 1x30" ACD is already huge!

Lol, been using the mac pro for a good hour now and starting to think I should keep it LOL.

Just imagine it with two 30inch monitors.......
hehehe

I love getting giddy!! :D

I've owned the 30" ACD for a good week before returning it though. I remember I returned it because I thought the screen size was just way too big for me. It was very nice though but I like staring at a screen where I can see the whole screen at once but with the 30" I had to shift my head up left, down left, up right, down right!! I want to add another 23" next to it though..

Ok that does it! I'm cancelling the ebay sale and just going to stick with it. Honestly I think all this reading about nehalem got me all worried for nothing + buyers remorse and its not even out yet!! Plus even if nehalem is out even a g5 quad is fast enough and not to mention this has 8 cores anyway! :D

Must use better... logic.... wont cancel the mac pro.. sale.. and see if it sells for the price I want first.. if not then keep..

Keep it. For the bragging rights if anything. You have the top of the line workstation, the top of the line notebook. You're the envy of all of us. Keep it. The Mac Pro is the best desktop computer on the planet and you have one. Keep it. Did I mention that you should keep it? You'll regret it if you don't. Keep it.

I have a a MBP 17" and a Mac Pro myself - but I mostly use the Mac Pro at home and the laptop at my day job and misc things at home. I got the Mac Pro because I really benefit from the higher cpu headroom. I can run twice the plugins in my audio DAW. It also encodes video a lot faster. I also needed the 4 hard drive slots and dual monitors. Plus I have a lot of peripherals. If these kind of things don't really matter to you then sell your Mac Pro. It sounds like you are not real tight on money but there is still no point in keeping a 3k computer you really are not going to use - or will only use because it's there.

Also this is what I do to help sell stuff I don't really use/need : Make a list of thing(s) you can buy for 3k that you want. Simply compare them to your Mac Pro and take into consideration time benefit. I am sure you can put 3k somewhere in your lafe that does not have so much overlap (maybe not tho lol).

Keep It

Keep the Mac Pro. A notebook is for when you are away from your desk. I love my Mac Pro--I keep adding to it. I'm putting wheels on it to get it higher off the ground and make it easier to pull out. I want a BluRay drive, the last 16 MB of memory, a couple more TB drives, a pair of 30" monitors, and I might get an Airport N card for a backup network adapter. I'm planning my RAID array.

But before I do all that, I'll a Mac Mini. I hope they come out with quad core CPU's next month. I'm thinking about selling my Solaris box and switching to these for servers.

Notebooks? That would be the last thing I want.

jjahshik32 here is an out of the box idea.

Keep your MP.

Sell your MBP.

Get a MBA for those times you want to use a Mac in a portable mode to browse the web, check e-mail and other light tasks.

Now you have the best of both worlds! :D

Hmm not a bad idea but I've thought about it before.. the mba is just not for me.. I just love the power of a portable..

Thanks guys for all your opinions. I still have the mac pro for sale on ebay for the price I want and if it does sell then I'll sell it but if not I'll just end up keeping it. For now I'm using the 17" mbp with the 23" acd and for the most part seems to be fast enough for me and rather pocket the money in the end from selling the mac pro. With the help of a fw800 1tb drive I feel as if the mbp can do everything I want it to do. I still have 450gb left in that 1tb drive (plenty of room and also use the 1tb drive to extract large files of hd movies). But one thing I will miss from the mac pro is the encoding part (which I seem to not do as much as I used to anymore). Plus I like the idea of using the mbp as my main machine and using its 17" monitor as a 2nd monitor, just feels so convenient and when I want mobile, I can just take it with me.

I love desktops but I love notebooks even more.. just have a soft spot for them..

Just got to wait and see for the next 5 days if it sells or not! I'll let fate handle this!! :D

Thanks man, this is what actually helped me decide to sell it in the end.

I noticed that if I use the mac pro, I use it all day and not touch the 17" mbp and I usually dont go out much with it, except just to roam around the house. But then I do notice that when I use the 17" mbp, I hate to leave the mac pro just sitting there unused. I guess I'm one of those guys that dont like to be wasteful and to me the 17" mbp connected to the 23" acd works fine for what I do + able to become mobile I can still use it while away from the desk. I'm the same as being non wasteful when it comes to food as well, even if I'm absolutely full I'll still finish it on purpose so I wont have to throw it away, lol.

But another side of me saids, there's nothing like a powerful desktop to sit infront of, especially driving your external monitors!

I guess its more of a want than need for the mac pro and the mbp is more of a need than want, well the mbp is both too I guess but less of the want but more of the need's side.

Its strange.. I guess after using the mbp connected to the 23" acd and with 20+ safari tabs, parallels running with 1 or 2 programs under vista, 2 hd movie trailers playing, downloading 20gb+ stuff, using microsoft word, itunes running, azureus, unison, it started to lag, well not necessarily lag but just not as smooth in transition... maybe I'll stick with the mac pro and get a 2nd monitor... using it connected to the mbp with the 23" ACD I felt more productive at the same time not as productive since it was a bit laggy...:D

Ok, I officially ended my ebay listing for good! I'm keeping this baby! Everytime, everytime I go and try and use a mbp + external display it bites me in the ass... wow using it to almost 75%, the mbp felt like it was trying to play catchup.. ok I'm only using the 17" as a portable.. as it should be!!

Tomarrow I'm going to pick up a 20" ACD from the apple store, using it in dual monitor gave me a much better experience! :D

lol, i'm the same as you, impulsive as all **** :p
I sold the car i spent a year building as i hated seeing it sitting there, bought a blackbook... now thinking of taking it back for a MBP and sell my MP and ACD and buy a TV :p

Only time the MB bogs down is hardcore browsing, which i recon would be gone with the faster MBP due to the increased cache, and a MBP gets higher FPS on WOW than my MP, and all i do is music/browse/WOW/burn.

the Black MacBook's look incredible, thats the only thing stopping me going to a 15" 2.6 MacBook Pro... backlit keys are gonna be good tho.

good luck.

You know ever since I got the new toys, I've been itching to get back on Wow after 2 years, lol.

and a MBP gets higher FPS on WOW than my MP,

no way!! Your MP will still beat the pants off any of the MBP, especially running Wow!!

Lol, yea the sony bravia at first I went to get a v-2500 model then I saw the 52" xbr4 and looked so amazing and beautiful I wanted it but then i picked up the 46" version then after a week I went back and exchanged it for the 52". Lol, so far the sony bravia xbr4, I have NO regrets whatsoever, its the best hdtv I've ever laid my eyes on and motion enhancer is just crazy realistic. The detail and eye candy just makes my eyes droooll!!

Yea I'm glad that I'm keeping the mac pro, it will serve me well for at least for the next 4-5 years! =D And when that time comes for an upgrade I can sell the mp and just pay the difference in $$ and will be alright!!

my advice would be to switch to decaf

Agreed. Why don't you just make your mind up rather than asking others to make what is ultimately a personal decision for you.

You have the machines, and know what you use them for. Nobody can make this decision but you. Why waste other peoples time on it? By the way, this is a rhetorical question rather than an invitation for your inane babble.

No offense but if its a waste of others time then just dont bother to read it or respond/post. I dont bother to read any threads that doesnt interest me in the first place so I dont waste my time. ;)

If you think about it and look very carefully at most of the threads on this forum, its about 90% all opinion based other than everything else is about asking questions on how to solve/fix a technical problem on their mac.

Plus I already decided to keep it thanks to everyones opinion and I much appreciate to the posters for your time of what you guys think, except you, JonR356.

My MP has a 7300, so FPS are poo.

i've got 4days to make up my mind, if apple ever release the 8800 for my "old tech" MP, then it will demolish a MBP, but until then, then MBP with 8600 512 will beat me... but i think the extra 2"s of the MBP could kill the portability round the house for me
