To iPod classic lovers:

It's not going away Wednesday. If it was, then why would there be one in this picture

I'll likely be buying one again this year just because it may be the last year they are available.

Right now I have two Classics, one for all my videos which doesn't fit on the 160GB, and a 120GB for music which only has about 30GB space left.

Yes, some of us do like allot of storage space.

A Day in The Life

If you haven't yet seen the Beatles Re-Mastered Ads you might also notice the distinctive iTunes interface in some of the shots and pricing...
The promo's all appear to point to iTunes.
In some of the promo's they also include Guitar Hero and other interactive Beatles stuff... It's looking like a big release folks!

I pray for something exciting!!

Ams.

Like a faulty product, then having a battle with Apple until they finally accept that it's the iPod that's faulty and NOT that you dropped it or put in the microwave.

How can I really get excited by a camera in a touch, or nano. I've already got the phone for g** sake.

If they were to introduce the tablet, (which they won't), it would be worth getting out of be for.

If you are going to the event Wednesday, don't forget the Bay Bridge will be closed at least till early Wed morning now. At least...meaning it could possibly be closed on Wednesday. Keep that in mind with your travels.

I don't know about you guys, but the whole iPod refresh has gotten kind of boring. More space, some feature that I may not need anyway. The iPod touch was the last real release that made leaps in the iPod world, but these days, all the touch does is mimick the phone. The other iPods are mainly getting more capacity.

Hopefully there is something else in line on this upcoming event.

If they're a bit late that's no prob. Being late hasn't stopped Apple before. They just want to announce it for conparison sake with the Zune HD.

It's only knock and know all, but I like it.

To quote Genesis' "It" from the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, in parody of the it's only rock and roll.

As long as it rolls out this year, I'll be a happy new iPod owner. Got a bad feeling about the iPod Classic, I think its end is near :-(

True, $18 tax for a $230 purchase *sigh*

Wow that sounds truly aweful! (not) lol.

Here in Ontario, Canada, that $230 purchase would cost us $29.9 in tax. And don't forget that we also pay more for our iProducts, $259 for an 8GB iPod touch.

I would love to be paying that little, wanna swap taxes? :)

Do you want it to come around and clean your windows?

I wish people who complain about this would include what they want

sure a camera and a mic aren't the most fantastic of upgrades but what else can they do beyond OLED, FM radio, and a compass with GPS?

I am hoping AppleTV update is somewhere in this event. it's about time, almost 3 years!

I guess you mean hardware update considering we've had one major and five minor software updates since the Apple TV launched in March of 2007.

Personally, I think they'll drop the 160GB Apple TV down to the 40GB price and call it a deal. Maybe we'll see another minor software update.

Unfortunately, Jim Dalrymple (of Mac Central and Macworld fame) has said there will be no Apple TV update in September. He's about as well connected as anybody including Gruber.

http://www.loopinsight.com/2009/09/02/sources-confirm-no-apple-tv-at-apples-september-event/

It's sad how Apple is completely neglecting this product especially considering Front Row development is practically dead.

Apple TV is one of those Apple products that likely has an interesting backstory. Someone will come forth and we'll get the exposé eventually. We used to have a Macrumors member who worked on the Apple TV team. However, he hasn't posted in awhile.

This is kind of random but how many of the attendees of these one-off events are from out of town? Like does someone just fly into the Bay Area for the day then leave? I know places like CNET, PCMag/PCWorld are local but what about Engadget or Gizmodo?

That's a crazy tax level. I myself am still groaning over the fact that I bought my Macbook from the Apple store 2 years and paid the $100 sales tax, recycling fee, etc.

But yeah, I barely buy anything technology-related product in a real store anymore. Too many better deals online, and tax free.

All tech products work with that kind of cycle. Big leaps forward every couple years followed by lots of incremental improvements. The iPod's entire history is exactly that so why is it now a problem for you? Besides, no company can reinvent their products every few months to keep the short-attention span consumer segment engaged.

Beatles will be the Focus

Apple is going to go thru and introduce a few new items at the start of "It's Only Rock and Roll" and then it is going to turn into a HUGE Beatles love-in. There is no way that the Beattles are going to pass up the opportunity to have their music become available to the ipod generation. And Apple is going to make the party all about the Beatles for agreeing to it. I mean come on, do you honestly think the Beatles announcing their music being available starting the 9th and Apple's "It's Only Rock and Roll" event being on the 9th were just random coincidences?:D

I think you mean Rock Band.

If The Beatles were to be the focus, then why not put a Beatles lyric as the title? The song "It's Only Rock and Roll" is the Rolling Stones. Perhaps they wanted to not be blatant with it, but you can't be sure. I wouldn't be surprised either way.

As for the image on the building having the headphones on the bottom, perhaps they moved the headphone jack of the classic to the bottom? Have all of the IO on one side maybe cut down on costs? Maybe they were able to make it that much thinner?

Cameras on the nano doesn't make sense to me, but at this point, it'll be something extra that will get attention for this generation of nanos perhaps.

As for the iPod Touch updates, storage yes, of course. I think that the incremental updates work because I currently have a 1G Touch, and if it has a camera, microphone, and GPS/Compass then I will definitely upgrade. I feel that the same thing happened with the iPhone. Many 3G users didn't upgrade to the 3GS, but a lot of original iPhone users did.

I guess you mean hardware update

Yes, hardware. The current one is just outdate. Speed bumps of the processor, better GPU, 1080p support and external drive support (or integration with AEBS/Time capsule).
They really need to get the ball rolling on this. I think they will update due the fact iTunes 9, SL and Quicktime X are out maybe paving the way for hardware and software. I am just not sure if will happen this week, but I would think soon they will take care of some of the issues above if not all.

If they indeed ignore it completely, they might as well kill the product for good. What keeps me optimistic is the iTunes store selling movies and the necessity to connect this to the HDTV, We'll see.

I really don't care about cameras. At this point, all I would like to see with the Touch is improvement each year in the following areas:

1. Storage capacity.

2. Battery life.

3. Screen quality.

I am patiently waiting until a 100+ gig Touch comes out. Until then I will stick with my 80 gig Classic.

1. Storage capacity. Will be 64GB

2. Battery life. it happened to the iPhone and there was no case difference so likely to happen to the touch

3. Screen quality. no OLED but we'll get that oleophobic coating

No Big Deal...

I'm guessing no big surprises. iPod updates and/or addition of Beatles to iTunes Library. I believe there is a Beatles remastered CD catalogue and the Rock Star Game rollout happening the same day. To big of a coincidence that Apple would choose a non-Tuesday event if it weren't meant to coincide with this Beatles rollout.
