I once paid $999 for a Sony digtal camera that was 3.4MP. That was about 8 years ago and I still use it. I never dreamed that my cell phone would be just under that resolution. Back then 3.4MP was crystal clear.

Your 3.4 MP camera's probably a lot more "crystal clear" than the upcoming iPod cameras.

Resolution doesn't guarantee quality... there are plenty of high-res, ******-image cameras out there.

What the hell's your point? Amazon sells CD's or MP3's. And they even import it right to your iTunes. You can use CD's for any media of your desire and MP3's of course already play on everything - so I don't see what your complaining about.

And if you want to use your AAC files anywhere else you can use Winamp or foobar.

What people STILL don't understand is that YOU CAN use third party devices, in a supported manner with iTunes via the XML file structure. All the third party device company needs to do is write a lil front end program that reads that XML file and you have full access to the music (with exception to DRM stuff of course).

I really wish people would just give it up already. Apple has every right to not allow other third parties to use their iTunes, which is entirely living for you to organize your music and support APPLE products...

I done see people bashing the Zune Marketplace and application for not allowing other third party music players....but hey....

how long will it take Best Buy to get the news iPods after the announcement?

Well, I'll be waiting for a place to sell it out of state (CA sales tax is painful) and preferably with some amenity, like a rock bottom price, or a free case like MacMall does (which is unfortunately in CA).

Why? They are no different that any of the other bands that people buy music from everyday.

No, they're not. They're probably the most legendary band EVER, whose music is damn near worshiped by a lot of people. As I said, I'm no fan of theirs, but from what I've read and heard, true Beatles fans would never buy some compressed digital version of their songs.

Every year they hold an event just for iPods. I just don't understand why people think there has to be more to it.

It's not always just for iPods. Generally, iTunes and the iTunes Store both receive some type of update. Additionally, we first learned of Apple TV at the "It's Showtime" September event in 2006.

An Apple TV fits in perfectly with the iPod event since it is an entertainment device just as iTunes and the iPhone software updates.

A new laptop wouldn't belong at this event like others are hoping for.

True, $18 tax for a $230 purchase *sigh*

i'd head out to Nevada or up to Oregon but I don't think the savings would be much if anything when you subtract the cost of gas money

plus, you have to connect to iTunes and register an iPod touch after purchase. that'll be a very relaxed 8 hour car ride back home

What would you like instead of a camera and probably a microphone? For it to hover or create a hologram image?

Something new or innovative, but maybe they're running out of things to do with the iPod. I'm only speaking for myself, but a camera and microphone aren't new features that make me want to go buy the new iPods. Maybe the next revision will bring something special.

I won't lie, I would enjoy it if Apple respected us consumers and allowed third party music player support through iTunes. Let the hating begin, but I would love to take my music with me ANYWHERE on ANYTHING. Amazon has been picking up my business as of late...

I haven't purchased anything with Amazon, but I actually second that notion.

It's viewed as a possible game ending mistake it seems, but I foresee cars with hard drives (my last caddy had one) but with a twist, WiFi! Imagine wireless syncing an itunes library directly to your car!

talk about a techno orgy... I'd be like a pig in sh....... you get the idea

Plus, they'd pickup (maybe) double the customers from 3rd party devices.... Maybe they could admit wacky (embedded) devices first to avoid lawsuits and the loss of iPod revenues.... Who knows, but I want!

Why does it always have to be a white lady on the banner? :(

Ah, c'mon, look at 'em boots! Straight hair! Posture! Don't tell me, ya see a black lady there! :(

Are you serious?!?!?!?!??!?!

Why is it always a race thing with people????!!!!!!!

Hate to break it to you, but some things aren't race related... She's a BLUE shapeless silhouette... whats the problem?

...of a white lady. :(

Eat a toaster strudel and chill the F out

To iPod classic lovers:

It's not going away Wednesday. If it was, then why would there be one in this picture

Right. I'm probably gonna go for the 32GB model, rumored at $300, so out-of-state is a 30% savings. I go up to Montana every year, but unfortunately that's August, right before the event.

Make no mistake about it, if they do appear on iTunes, there will be thousands and thousands of albums sold.

Oh, I'm sure, although I could never imagine buying classic music from that era online in anything less than FLAC format. Guess I'm one of the old guard of music buyers. :)

I love the new iPod shuffle. It's perfect for mountain biking. I understand why people bitch about it, but I don't mind the earbuds at all and I find the controls easy to use.

There can't be many more years left for traditional iPods. It's sad, but that's progress for you.

Because that's an iPod Touch, not a classic. The classic has the headphone jack on top, that picture has the headphone jack on the bottom.

I don't have a camera phone, I bet you this camera will be better than most cellphone cameras because of the new autofocus, autoexposure and such. the majority of the photos taken will be of teenagers posing and they'll be destined for MySpace where everyone cares about how "hawt" the person looks over quality of the photo

This camera won't be any better than the camera on the current iPhone. Apple isn't that dumb. And most of those teenagers do have a camera phone.

Again, you offered no insight as to why someone that is into device consolidation would want to move the camera to his digital media player. A phone that can also play videos/music with a camera is a much smarter idea because then you have exactly 1 device for everything, instead of carrying multiple devices around.

Not to say Apple won't do it, there will probably be a camera on the touch to bring it to feature parity with the iPhone, but a camera equipped Nano and Classic is a lame idea. And if that's the only thing new besides storage in the iPod world, it's even lamer.

Well, I listen to music 10x as old as the Beatles. I'm ripped my Dad's whole CD collection, but believe it or not, a lot of good-quality Classical can be found online (I use Amazon and eMusic). And it's nice to be able to buy exactly and only what you want, not the 10th copy of Beethoven's 5th or something, like might be on CD.

Are you serious?!?!?!?!??!?!

Hate to break it to you, but some things aren't race related... She's BLUE

The lady on the banner is blue, not green. As such it's clearly racist towards green people. Deny that, and you're racist. ;)
