I think that there are plenty of people who would download Beatles tracks/albums if available. Yes, the existing fans (me included) will get the CDs. But there is a new generation of music buyers who only download and don't own any CDs. There's also those who are not big fans who might want the odd track that they do like and would rather download that than buy a whole album.

Oh, and the blue lady is holding a classic upside-down. :p

Thought this was on tonight for some reason, Probably because it's the 9th in 3 and a half hours. Oh well, tomorrow night isn't too far away.

I'm sure its been mentioned, but I'd have thought if Apple did have the Beatles catalogue coming, its something they'd be shouting from the roof, so we'd be seeing Beatles-themed posters everywhere, even if it was just a subtle hint (in the colour or design of the posters) rather than an absolute give away. They'd get much more interest and media coverage and excitement rather than just springing it on the attendees.

I'm hoping for itunes 9 to include a way to sync itunes libraries. I currently use super sync. I have 2 Macs that I want all music to stay synced, audiobooks to remain on the laptop (for ipod syncing), movies and tv shows to stay on the mini (which feeds the apple tv). I'd rather not have to open an application on both and do everything manually.

While they are at it, how about a good way to sync iphoto too? I want the same library on both.

Am I the only one interested in this?

Hi,

Assuming that Apple will announce a new iPod Touch on wednesday, and there are no production delays. When will it be available on the Apple Store (worldwide)? Immediately?

I think it's about time that the iPod caught up with some technology that music players had years ago. Features that the iPod, for all its plaudits, has NEVER had...

Seriously, my old Sony media player which I bought in the EIGHTIES had the following features:

1. Auto Reverse
2. Dolby B
3. Chrome and Metal settings
4. Unlimited storage (replaceable music 'cassettes')
5. MegaBass(TM)

Frankly, until Apple pull their fingers out and put these features on one of their media players, I'm not interested.

Yes it is an iPod event. Have you seen the first post with the iPod banner? This is what they mean by a music event.

I understand it's an ipod event. I just mean will we get something amazing if they are dedicating a whole show to it rather that "here it is it has a camera. You can go now". Would love to see a redesign as well as some other stuff we're not expecting!

Woah, I just came to the realization that this event is on a Wednesday. My world might just have imploded.

Not that I really follow the iPod line anymore with the iPhone taking on the role.

What's with all these lame "media events"? Why can't they just release new products like everyone else. Why do they need a "media event" just to announce a bigger ipod or a new iTunes? So what? Seems kind of overblown to me.

The event theme CUH-LEARLY means they're going to announce availability of the Beatles on iTunes...probably the recently digitally remastered ones too.

Just watch. :D

If a $200 iPod can have the same functionality as an AppleTV it will completely replace it, there isn't room for both products that do the same. The Mac slideshow on the main site also doesn't show the AppleTV, i think its going to be phased out.

It's not on the Mac slideshow, it's on the iPod+iTunes slideshow.

http://www.apple.com/itunes/

Which just goes to show that an AppleTV update is fair game for this iPod+iTunes event.

Don't forget the user replaceable batteries and lack of DRM :)

Wow, yeah. I forgot those. And I'm pretty sure they were usually lossless too. In fact rather than losing sound, you even gained quite a lot of treble! Brilliant.

And you got much better value for money on the bundled personal speakers in those days too. Instead of these tiny little 'ear-buds' you get these days, my Sony player came with something called 'head-phones' which were much bigger and covered in a lovely fetching orange foam, with a handy little band which went over your hair and ensured they never fell off. The more I think about it, the more I believe we're going backwards with technology... :(

Plenty of nice headphones out there these days. Look up Grado, for example. But you won't get them bundled with your ipod (or any other gadget). The crappy "ear buds" that get bundled with ipod these days go straight into the trash.

Glad I Sold My Back To School Touch Already

My son got a free iPod with his laptop; it went straight on eBay and sold for $189.50 they won't be fetching $150.00 after the camera version is announced.

Which makes it even more of a shame that Apple have been incrementally reducing the quality of the output stage on their iPods over the past few iterations. I still haven't heard an iPod that beats my iPod 5g which is coming up to 4 years old now.

The one thing I'm really hoping for in the new iPod lineup is a return to the inclusion of a respectable analogue stage.

As for the comments about "true" Beatles fans snubbing the downloaded versions of the songs based on sound quality - if you can reliably spot the difference between a 16/44.1 CDDA rip vs a 256kbps AAC in a double blind test on a non-critical listening system then I'd be absolutely amazed. If you DO have a critical listening system then what are you doing playing compressed music formats on it from ANY artist?
