Do you think Apple would have left that hole exposed like that? This person drilled a hole himself. This isn’t manufactured this way?!?!?

And if it was MANUFACTURED with a hole, it would have to be BIGGER if it were to remain waterproof. But you claimed that the hole proved that it did NOT need to be bigger to have a hole.

This the dumbest product Apple has made in quite some time, why would I buy an accessory to a tag? That's just ridiculous. Tile beats Apple in design here.
It’s kudos to the Apple Puck Mouse. Probably same designer.

Or, you know, instead of taking frugality to a ridiculous, risky, inelegant extreme, you could just buy a third-party holder (example, example 2) on Amazon. Just a wild thought . . .

I wonder why it's taking Amazon so long to get the Belkin items? They don't even list the back secure holder with key ring, and the one they do have (in pink) won't be available until June 15th. I ordered a black one from Apple (same price, $12.95), and it's supposed to arrive next week.

The M1 does a great deal of memory swapping in its onboard SSD memory and some utilities show that it will have used up its probably useful life at about 2% a month giving you only 50 potential months of functional life. This is assuming that the M1 SSD ages the same as what the utilities are geared to measure and a other stuff.
This was a bug that was fixed with a software update.

I aways have to love how people complain about a $12 holder for a airtag and they will spend $2000 on a MacBook M1 that will now only last a couple of years.
If the M1 MacBook only lasts a couple of years it means that all of my Intel Macs are already obsolete.
They seem to be working fine though… go figure.

Cool.. can’t believe that Apple’s design engineers did not think of this use case.
It probably wasn't practical unless they wanted to make it symmetric. Making it asymmetric would limit the accessories. It is just large enough for the battery. There will be plenty of cheap accessories, so not a big deal.

Drilling the hole is going to break the water resistance seal and may affect the sound (although probably minimally).

This isn’t necessary at all. You simply rough up a spot and use a small drop of 2 part epoxy to attach either a split ring or other attachment point. You can also make any custom looking case you want with sugru and that comes in many colors

Unlike a Tile or some other item trackers, Apple's new AirTag does not have any holes or openings for attaching it directly to a keychain, forcing customers to purchase accessories like a leather key ring for this purpose.

Interestingly, though, MacRumors forum member smythey has proven that it is possible to drill a hole into the AirTag without breaking it, allowing for a string or a thin key ring to be fed through the opening. The result doesn't look very cosmetically appealing, but smythey said the AirTag seems to function normally after the do-it-yourself job.

A teardown of the AirTag shared on YouTube today provides a first look inside Apple's item tracker, revealing a circular circuit board with seemingly just enough room around the edges to drill a small hole in the plastic.

Keep in mind that drilling a hole into an AirTag will unsurprisingly void Apple's warranty and could damage the accessory if done incorrectly, but this still proves as a neat proof of concept for those looking to save a few dollars.

I say drill the hole and if there's a problem and Apple voids the warranty: bring it to the attention of the EU Union. They are quite liable to take up your issue and demands.

Wait!?!? This just might beat out the wireless mouse with the charging port on the underside of it!

What? No one has tried solder yet? Or , better, Arc Welding?

I’m assuming they’re still editing the video :) If “Ways to fix AirTags” becomes a meme, then these things are going to fly off the shelves and into the pockets of folks looking for that viral internet fame. :)
