An Asus 750N something. Forget the exact model. It is a couple years old. I'm trying to convince the household to get an 802.11AC router, though I don't know if we would actually see a difference. Getting about 45-60mbps on the 5GHZ. Way more variable on the 2.4 setting.

I had a previous gen AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g/n) and just got the latest AirPort Extreme with 802.11ac...my speed test results went from 30-50mbps to 120mbps on the 5GHz band. Regular internet browsing isn't night and day difference but it really shines when it comes to downloading files & streaming video.

Obviously, won't do much good if you're having severe connection dropout issues though. Hopefully Apple releases another update soon that fixes the WiFi problems.

Did anyone on here notice their screen distorting when holding it? Or pressing the back?

I'm not sure if this is related, but a few years back I started having problems with stuff in general occasionally having network connection problems. It was like a rash, it would be one device one day, and another the next, and then jump to something else. It was rather maddening. To make a long story short, my best guess was that something wasn't properly dealing with DHCP leases, and using IP's it wasn't supposed to be. Given the large number of things I have on my network (about 20 back then, 30 now), I didn't feel like jumping through the hoops to figure out which one it was, and just assigned everything a mac address based IP. Completely cleared the problem up. Haven't received my new iPad yet, but I've not had any connectivity problems with any of our iDevices running current iOS.

Two Windows devices are doing fine on both bands and so are all Apple devices on 2.4Ghz. It's strictly a new problem only on 5Ghz that seems to be a new and common issue so I'll wait it out and then maybe try some further adjustments as you mention.

EDIT: just realized there's a thread on it here - https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1807786/

at the right side of the screen? two black spots?

I saw it. If you don't press it so hard, it won't appear and I don't see why you need to press it hardly.
