Good luck! I wasn´t expecting it to happen so soon, so I´m not in… Anyway, your marketing skills are good. You got me curious! Post his name and the album title, please.

I didn't post it originally because I didn't want to be one of those dudes but if you are interested his name is Bennett Paster and the album is Skyline. Great trio jazz record, he's also got some other projects in NYC: Grupo Yanqui and Organic.

I have like 10 friends with albums on the ITMS and it kills me I've done nothing with my music career. To me Bennett is the only guy i think deserves it though.

$10,000 iTunes Music Card??! That seems like an insane amount. And 10 iPods seems over the top. I'd rather have an iMac, a macmini, an MB Pro and an iPod. And maybe $50 of iTunes vouchers.

Otherwise what...you have one iPod for Rock, one for jazz, one for hideously overpriced tv episodes...??

If 10 iPods seems over the top, why do you need 3 computers?

It's not really over the top when you work out that it wouldn't even fill one of the 60GB iPods with music.

Because there is actually a viable need for three computers. A macmini to hook up to your tv, an iMac for design work and a laptop for on the go. I can think of no reason for 10 iPods. well...other than to give 9 away, which to be fair would be a cool thing to do.

GRRR... I COULDN'T MAKE UP MY MIND ON WHAT TO BUY, i'd like to think i was pretty close.

I think you've found your answer. ;)

Well...true. Assuming you started with no music. Or actually one song - the one billionth question. Which would be truly achieving the dream. But would further beg the question...why ten?!

Don't get me wrong. I'm just jealous. Very jealous.

No, that would not further beg the question, that would further raise the question.

</OFFTOPIC>

I didn't win either-ah well, my replacement iPod is on its way.

Anyway, I haven't got a clue with what do to if I won ten iPod's.

The 1 billion winner could be in the US, like in the past.

Mmm... petitio principii. Good spot. Although I could validly argue that assuming that "no one has a need for ten iPods therefore giving away ten iPods is silly because noone needs ten iPods" is indeed precisely begging the question.

But I will admit that it hadn't even vaguely crossed my mind. But since you brought it up...

Well, you used the term "beg the question" and immediately followed it with a question, which suggests that you were using it to mean "raise the question" instead of using it to point out a logical fallacy.

Furthermore, assuming that "no one has a need for ten iPods", therefore "giving away ten iPods is silly because no one needs ten iPods" is not begging the question even if you meant it that way. You assumed that no one has a need for ten iPods. But "giving away ten iPods is silly because no one needs ten iPods" is not necessarily true if your premise is true. I could argue that giving away ten iPods is not silly even if I concede that no one has a need for ten iPods, because that person could give away the other nine iPods and acquire loads of good will with his friends/family. That would mean that "giving away ten iPods is silly because no one needs ten iPods" is false. I have used your same assumption, yet I have refuted your conclusion -- since your combined statement, that "no one has a need for ten iPods therefore giving away ten iPods is silly because no one needs ten iPods", is not a tautology, then you are not begging the question.

That is, let A be "no one has a need for ten iPods" and B be "giving away ten iPods is silly". Your combined statement is "if A then (if A then B)". Even if A is true, you still need B to be true for your whole statement to be true (even with your silly statement where you state the premise twice). But B can be false, as I pointed out, and therefore "if A then (if A then B)" is not a tautology, and so you are not begging the question.

But if you WERE actually begging the question, then your conclusion would necessarily follow from your premise. ....

The counter passed around 530am in London which is the middle of the night as far as I'm concerned ;) Well, OK, late in the night but way too early in the morning to be up and downloading music!

Oops, you're right. Got my time zone conversions messed up. Sorry.

The billionth song downloader will receive a 20" iMac, a $10,000 iTunes Music Card, and ten 60GB iPods, and may get a personal phone call from Steve Jobs. Apple usually announces both the winner's name and the winning song.

What would you do with 10 60GB iPods?

I'm guess that person who one has 9 "new" best friends now ;)

And I guessing the fone call from Steve would go something like this:

Ring Ring...
Lucky Moron Who Won: Hello
Steve: This is *Steve* is this the moron who won the 1 Billionth download thing?
Lucky Moron Who Won: Yeah
Steve: Congrat for winning
Lucky Moron Who Won: Thanks
Lucky Moron Who Won: Are you really Steve Jobs?
Steve: Yeah
Lucky Moron Who Won: Really?
Steve: Yeah
Lucky Moron Who Won: You?
Steve: Yeah
Lucky Moron Who Won: Ok so you're Steve Jobs, can you tell me what fun new Apple products will be release next week?
Steve: Normally I can't tell you anything without my Keynote address snappy black t-shirt and jeans but ok. The new release next week will be the Intel iBook.
Lucky Moron Who Won: Cool can I trade my 20" iMac for an early Intel iBook
Steve: Nope.

:D

Bit hard to win with no NZ music store;)

You don't need a NZ store, you just need a credit card with an address in another country that does have a store.

Not the easiest thing to manage, but possible...
