....I saw it coming last night and purchased a song twice....

Helplessly Hoping by CSNY!!

You bought the same song twice? If you're not going to win, you could've at least had 2 different songs out of the deal. ;)

well I could be eating my own foot for saying this but from the first few posts I read I think it is very funny people were using a counter that somebody else made on their own site that predicted the billionth song was about 200,000 songs ahead of the Apple counter. kinda makes you wonder doesn't it? I mean that guy probably wanted to win too.

Sorry.miscommunication:)

I bought the first one when that guys counter hit 1,000,000,000 then a different song when Apple's counter hit 1,000,000,000.

His wasn't 200,000 songs ahead. While I was
watching his, it was only 3-8 thousand ahead.

yuck, he won while ordering Coldplay
nothing against them, but that is a pretty
boring song/album/group to win with.

i was hoping it would be some 14 year
old church kid secretly ordering Marilyn
Manson or something, and he'd win the
prize but have to explain to his parents
that he was ordering devil music.

i think my dismay will sum up the thread:

damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it

etc.

:(:( :( :( :( :(

At least his name kinda fits, somehow, for the music scholarship. Alex Ostrovsky sounds a hell of a lot better than some of the names it could have been

still, my name would have been best :D ;)

Good humor.

Alex is a 16 year old kid in Michigan.... I'm planning on asking him for an iPod.

Would you want some random person asking you for stuff, if you won something?

Or the new Willie Nelson single, about gay cowboys. That could get him beaten up at school.

You could do worse than that. Britney Spears, for instance, or New Kids on the Block. Or one of those SOAPnet videos...

I haven't seen much in main stream news coverage of this milestone.
Where's the media coverage?

Correct me if I'm horribly wrong but THE song was downloaded about 9.30pm EST so Apple will only have been beginning the Press release process this morning EST which will be fine for the press in the US.

From my point of view in the UK the news will come a day late and be old news.

And why are these competitions always won by US citizens when iTunes is an international animal. Or is my cynisism taking me over.

English billion Vs America billion

whch are we dealing with??

an America Billion is a thousand million, and an English Billion is a million million. For some reason I can't get the music store to work on my computer, i can get episodes for podcasts but when ever i click to buy something and sign in, it justs locks up:( :( :(

It's not an American Billion, it's a "short-scale" billion. Which is a thousand million and, yes, that's what we're dealing with. Besides even the BBC now uses billion that way.

Billion

He lives about 45 minutes away from here. That is one of the richest areas in the country. I bet he could have afforded this already. I would have rather seen a person in Detroit or a Katrina affected area win. Still cool that the winner is near me. I give this the "Lame" tag.

One thousand millions. We're a ways away from a British billion (a trillion, I believe, here in the states).

Not sure what's up with your copy of iTunes. Maybe you should post a new thread in the iTunes section of the forum? I would upgrade to the latest version if you're running something older (since they may be locking out older versions...)

Someone's grumpy today.

Do you like raining on people's parades?
