then it should be called iMedia. the itunes name is misleading.

its still bloated with all the crap that apples put into it.

Or, it should be caleld iTunes, firstly because that's what it's been caleld for over a decade, and you don't get brand recognition like that and just throw it away, and also, becuase names aren't supposed to be logical, ESPECIALLY on the Mac. with things named Perian, and all kinds of other off the wall, crazy ****, that's the FUN of Mac. don't kill Mac's spirit, that's all it has left.

Probably nothing.

If they were really smart they would totally revamp the Mac version into several parts.

1. The store. Either it's own app or into the Mac App Store one
2. Merge with DVD player and have a player app, this app would also be your media browser for making playlists
3. iSync 'app' which would work by mounting iPhones etc on the desk top and you double click to see the sync choices, import to desktop/iPhoto, etc.

NO. Apple has split enough apps on iOS, don't encourage them to bring that ******** over here.

$2.08 per month, actually. :p

Seriously, why wouldn't someone with a decent sized iTunes library buy iTunes Match for at least one year, if only to get 128K songs upgraded to 256K, and to get licensed versions of any pirated songs in their library (Yes, we all have at least some).

Because my entire library of over 3,000 songs is in Apple Lossless (Except 3, literally three mp3's, I've counted.) and I'm NOT going to pay to lose quality. that's just insane.

You don't lose your existing lossless songs unless you delete them yourself. The point is to have access to 256k versions in the cloud that you can access from any of your iDevices and computers without being tied to your main machine.

But whatever, iTunes match isn't for everyone and is only useful in certain scenarios.

Now I kinda feel bad. :( Sorry for being rather dickish, and I thought iTunes match overwrote your files.

So I quickly read page 1,4 and 5 of this thread but didn't see anything mentioned about PowerPC compatibility.

Sorry if I missed any posts mentioning it but it makes sense if the new iTunes doesn't support PPC but:

I know many people using an old G4 PowerBook, with external hard drives, to serve as their iTunes music and video to their AppleTv.

How will the current AppleTV work, if it also gets a software upgrade?

Hopefully newer Macs get direct streaming like airdrop?

What about AppleScript which Apple has been depreciating over the years, bc I use it often in iTunes.

Personally, I can understand not buying a new laptop all teh time, but dude, G4?! 'bout time they upgraded or got a PC.

I turned on my G5 power PC the other day and omg i couldn't even stand how slow it was going. It drove me nuts!!

also, itunes is really bad at handling libraries with over 200gb of music. it becomes a memory and cpu hog, sometimes hitting 200mb of ram... a simple mp3 player shouldn't use that much memory.

And with 200GB+ of media, how many megabytes of album covers, video posters etc are included in that? Surely a hell of a lot. Chewing up 200MB of RAM is actually pretty impressive with that many images loaded?!?

Anyone think we'll get nice big album art and coverflow style browsing through the store? It could almost be like a real record/CD store except you can preview the tracks. Or will we still be stuck with crummy tiny album art, lots of wasted cluttered UI space, tiny text and poor discovery like we have now?

Yeah, it'd be nice if Apple updated their album art too, 600x600 is just too damn small.

Perian is not an Apple product. There is no such thing as 'mac spirit'

You actually believe it takes all those cover art and dumps it into memory? It doesnt. It opens the mp3 and reads it when necessary. I have 320gb of music, half of that has cover art, all of which is 50kb or more. Lets be generous and say at 320gb of music I have 20,000 songs half of which has 10,000 cover art images at 50kb would be 488mb. Mind you, 320gb is a lot more than 20,000 songs, and a lot of the cover art images are much higher than 50kb.

Sorry, but youre wrong.

If I had to guess, I'd say it is coming out as soon as between now and tomorrow but this is just my humble opinion.

I'm aware that Perian isn't an Apple product, that doesn't mean that creative names isn't part of Mac's spirit.

To be honest, I'd rather them take their time and put out a great program then to see them rush to meet a deadline and iTunes 11 be a complete disaster.

The question is when does 11.1 come out? I never upgrade to x.0 updates on iTunes because they are terribly buggy. Dont expect 11 to be any different, in fact with a complete redesign it will probably be worse than normal.

Unfortunately Apples quality control has gotten worse over time instead of better. Though to be fair iOS 6 wasnt buggy in my experience (save for the half baked maps application).

Creative names sure isn't part of the Mac's spirit. It's part of computer science/hacking, has been for many years. Computer scientist, real hackers, have always had a knack for naming their software with creative and playful names.

Linux is even more prone to this stuff than OS X. Heck, Apple is pretty stale with its app names (iTunes for music originally, Mail.app for e-mail, Calendar for calendering, iPhoto for pictures, iMovie for movies, iDVD for DVDs... need I go on ?).

Sorry to burst your bubble here about what you thought the "Mac spirit" was.

Its thursday and we all are waiting for it Apple! Hope it won't be a train wreck like the iOS Maps.

You don't need to quote "Mac spirit" there just wasn't a decent name I could think of lol, and yeah, Apple has boring names, but sorry, I first noticed interesting names on Mac.
