This is iTunes v4.7.1(30).

Interestingly, the software is Copyright 2000-2004, not 2000-2005. I guess they made no last-minute tinkers in this version.

Another words the iTunes Software division did a good job on the finished product. The team was able to have a relaxing Christmas and New Years Holiday. Now it's on to the next update for Tiger. :D

I just tried this on my iBook G4/800 and I did *not* have this issue. Try making a copy of the iTunes plist files in your prefs folder and trashing the originals, then re-starting.

What are the "other performance improvements"? Any chance of AppleScript support for changing AirTunes Speaker, by any chance?

Cheers

FYI

Some but not all songs de-DRM'ed with Hymn no longer work. Reverting back to 4.7 brings them back to life.

And before the usual debate begins, let it be known I have purchased 2228 songs at the iTMS for use on my own iTunes and iPod, and have "Hymned" them so they will play on my Elgato EyeHome. They have never been shared with anyone or been made available on any P2P network. I am not complaining or expecting that I deserve some support from Apple for this, nor do I blame them for breaking Hymn with incremental updates. I am aware that using Hymn is risky and will forever be fraught with frustration and the possibility of losing the ability to play my purchased music.

Now, commence with banishing me to hell.

[Update to news story]

iTunes 4.7.1 is also available for download, with this description:
iTunes 4.7.1 includes support for iPod shuffle, support for copying photos to an iPod photo, the ability to show duplicate songs in your library, and other performance improvements.

True enough...there's the duplicates finder right in the Edit menu! :)

It's not perfect...it will show two songs as duplicates because their names are the same, even though their length/content are different (i.e. live vs. album).

I guess it's interesting though.

Awesome, I thought I had successfully de-duped my 10 GB library but it found 108 songs (54 dupes). Some were different versions but many were not.

It was there in the previous release. Why is ths considered a new feature? So far, the only difference I see is the "show -> links to Music Store" in the Preferences. I guess it also supports the new iPod shuffle.

An update to the Visualizer woudl be cool, IMO.

That option has been there in previous versions too...

There was a slight delay (2-3 sec.) when I opened the burner tab, but it didn't freeze on my PB.

What they didn't mention is that there was a playlist security problem and that certain types of playlists could cause a buffer overrun and allow the system to be compromised.

That's been fixed in 4.7.1.

NOOOO!!! I have a dual 2.5er and I applied this update and bam anytime I start iTunes now my computer freezes, like OS 9 style.

Autofill

On the iPod Shuffle page they mention a feature called Autofill, that apparently only works with the new iPod Shuffle. I say that because I installed 4.7.1 and attached my iPod (3G), but noticed no Autofill. Is anyone else able to get this to show up?

For those curious, this is how it explains it on the site:
nce you connect iPod shuffle to your Mac or PC, iTunes automatically updates its contents. iTunes becomes aware that you’ve connected iPod shuffle and displays it in the Source column. You can see your music and playlists at a glance. For the ultimate exercise in uncertainty, let iTunes randomly Autofill your iPod shuffle. iTunes creates a playlist that fits your style — and your iPod shuffle’s capacity. For finer control over your portable music collection, set Autofill to add specific playlists or add higher-rated songs first. Or turn Autofill off and manually select the songs you want to tote on your iPod shuffle.

It doesn't show up for me, either (with an iPod mini), and I'd been hoping it would. It sounded like just the sort of thing I've been wanting - a more flexible, automatic way of filling my iPod mini with music from my rather large collection, without having to manage a manual playlist. A Smart Playlist isn't flexible enough...

Oh well, here's hoping they make the Autofill feature available to all iPods sometime in the future. I see no reason why it would be impossible, and I doubt they'll sell more iPod Shuffles just because previous iPod users want to use the Autofill feature.

iTunes 4.7.1 Deleted My Album Artwork!!!!

After installing iTunes 4.7.1, album artwork no longer displayed on one of my iPod photo unites. I haven't sync'ed it with my others until I know if I can recover it by unchecking/checking the "Display artwork on iPod" option works. iTunes is currently optimizing artwork for the unit.

ipoddownload does not work with the new iTunes

Someone else has probably said it but I've not read further...

yes it does work. Same fix as usual.. hex edit the binary for iTunes and search replace "iPod Download" with "iOwn ThisIpod"

Cheers

Confirmation: iTunes 4.7.1 Removes Artwork from iPod photo!

I tested the new 4.7.1 update with all 4 of my iPod photo(s), and iTunes 4.7.1. removed the track artwork from ALL 4 of them! The only workaround I could find is going to iTunes:preferences, uncheck the "Display artwork on iPod" option, click OK, then go back and re-enable it. I wish I had an iTunes 4.7 CD or installer to revert back!
