itunes 7.6.2 interface crawls on my G4

Sorry for the noob question but how can I downgrade to the previous version? I always download via software update so I have no installer.

On my 1.25 emac cover flow was really fluid on 7.6/7.6.1 but the new version seems bloated and crawls along :(

If you rent a movie on iTunes and then put it on your iPod and connect it to your tv with the component cables, will the picture look good? or is it going to be all stretched out and pixelated? ... trying to avoid buying AppleTV
Max iPod resolution (and the rental store) is just below DVD. So it should look as good as DVD, more or less.

It should not be stretched out at all.

After restoring from my Time Machine backup, I've found that these problems are unrelated to the update.
Sorry!

Problems since installing this update:
  • The Dock doesn't pop up when I move the mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen.
  • When I hover the mouse pointer over menu items, they don't get highlighted unless I hold the mouse button down.
  • In Safari, the mouse pointer icon doesn't change to a hand when I hover over links.
Anyone else having these problems?

Yeah, it does suck. What they need to do is build AirTunes into OSX instead of relying on iTunes. Sure you could use AirFoil but I refuse to pay for something when the old version used to work well.

The design is better and it is a heck of a lot faster. That's thanks to FR2 using Leopards new media browser.

While AAC is newer the algorithm is already much better than MP3's. If encoded correctly AAC's will generally sound better than an mp3 AND use less memory to boot.

I beg to differ. Low bitrate mp3's sound a lot worse at the same bitrate as AAC. Cymbals show the low quantization and don't even sound like cymbals. I'd rather hear washed out cymbals than something that doesn't even resemble them.

Anyway, that's my two cents on the whole MP3 v AAC debate. I know what to listen for and I still have yet to hear an MP3 that sounded better than an AAC at the same bitrate. People think the LAME encoder is some sort of holy thing. To me any good AAC encoder kills it even at lower bitrates. Maybe I'm just listening to the wrong types of music.

I agree that at the same bitrate AAC does sound better but mp3 at a -v2 or -alt preset sounds better than AAC if you ask me. but well this could go on for ages.

bricked one of my g4 iMacs, on reboot it's stuck on the white screen. just ran fsck, and the file system is ok.

refuses to boot into safe mode.

now to research how to use time machine.

WOW!!!

Everyone is mad cuz Front Row doesn't have a link with iTunes, well every time I use Front Row and quit it, iTunes is hiding. kinda weird and annoying.

So it's been a week or so, what is the verdict on the updates?

Many posters here have experienced problems with the latest updates. A few have not. One has even stated that his problem is not related to the updates. I have all of these updates + the keyboard firmware update and some kind of RAW camera update all waiting to be updated. However, I am deathly afraid of doing it for fear that it will mess up my MacBook. I am a long time lurker and new switcher, and before this thread I was just blindly updating every time the Updater had a new one. Now I am afraid to do so before reading this forum. Can anyone give me a definitive "No, don't do it!" or "All clear, go ahead" or even a "Update X but not Y" with regard to these updates?

Thanks for helping a Mac newbie!:)

I'm in the same boat as you too Max Book.
My MacBook Pro is perfect and I'm afraid to do anymore updates.

always install updates unless someone posts serious issues, the issues in this thread are more "personal" from what i can tell.

As a log time Mac user who watches the forums when there are updates released, my bet is that most of the users who experience problems are those who have installed hacks or the various "enhancement" tools that are out there. They may not have even know that what they were installing was modifying things that weren't meant to be modified. You'll find that many people's update problems go away once they uninstall those items... assuming that they can be uninstalled!

My advice it to be careful what you install in your system, do a minimal amount of due diligence before downloading and installing freeware and shareware. Then, when Apple releases updates, wait about a week. If there are issues with the update that affects a large number of users, you'll hear about it. And before you install the updates, if you've installed any 3rd party software you are unsure about, check their website for any identified conflicts with the update.

I have been using OS X since 10.1; and I have never had an issue with an Apple update I've installed. And I've installed nearly all of them. These forums magnify any perceived problem because you only hear from the people who have problems. We seldom post when everything goes smoothly. If you want a more tempered discussion, I suggest you visit MacInTouch.com. The reader forum is managed, rather than a free-for-all like most forums. Is a little slower pace because of it (your post won't show up until the next day), but I think you'll find the reader contributions to be more level-headed and useful.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! Now I feel more confident in installing the updates. Also, thanks for the link to the other forum. :)

Connect360 Help!

Hey

I'm pretty new to these forums as i am new to the connect360. So i'm not sure if my problem is simple or complex.

I got the software, i see my xbox360 in the discovered devices but under it the message reads: Access control list enabled, device at (ip address) unauthorized.

What do i do?

If anyone could help me that would great.

Thx
