Same for me - and i don't know what to do about it.

I never had probs with iTunes before;
i've got approx. 25GB of music and a few movies, running on MBP with enough RAM...

any suggestions?
I didn't find anything on google, this appears to be a rare problem.

thanks

edit: after crash i can't force quit iTunes - i have to shut down completely (pressing power button 2 secs...) - btw my MBP has never had kernel panic nor other probs before iTunes 7...

NBC Today Turned High Defintion Today!

Gotta Love That native Today 1920 x 1080i/p on a 23" Apple Cinema Display, 24" iMac or Dell 24" Wide.

Whoopie! Very Big News. :)

Meanwhile CBS Morning is still a pathetic looking SD. :(

Got to play with iTunes 7 last night at home. It went through 60GB of music and did the gapless search thing. What I didn't realize is that I had stopped listening to some of my albums because the little pause between tracks was so annoying. Pink Floyd, DJ Mixes, The Beatles, Classical music, rave albums - I was astounded how many I skipped over when picking play lists because I was tired of things like getting into a 10 minute track on Ummagumma and suddenly hearing a pause while the next track starts.

Finally gapless playback is in iTunes, and it's not a moment too soon. I'll be glad for it when I buy a new iPod as well...

On another note, I noticed that installing iTunes 7 messed up a few sets of permissions - maybe this could be part of what's causing problems for folks? Maybe try repairing before launching iTunes 7 for the first time - I did this on my computer and it hasn't so much as hiccuped.

I also noticed that lots of traffic on my DSL interferes with the album art search a little (causes it to stutter).

I still contend that this is not the prettiest iTunes release, but the new features are quite remarkable.

Videos on old 5th Gen

So the video at 640x480 works fine on the old 5gen ipods. I encded a movie in Quicktime Pro (which also now supports the new video format). It works great! Whats even better is I have the dock that lets you watch whats on your ipod on TV. and the resolution is NOTICABLE better, as it should be.

As far as it not being pretty, personally I like it a lot more than 6. Though i have to say that this IS the route that apple is going design wise so get used to it :p Brushed steel was so 1999 cool anyway.

I still don't get why everyone is complaining, iTunes 7 is great once you get past the looks. Gapless playback alone is worth it. The icon looks better in my opinion, It looks crisper and more like a CD then before. I had to squint to even see a difference. So what if some buttons are missing, You can still get to the features with an extra click. The colors are not the best but you can get past that, It has no functionality in how the software works. All in all this is a good update with a lot of new features I've wanted for a long time.

Forgive me for not reading this HUGE topic, but does anybody else but me think the new icon for iTunes is ugly?

Album Artist is how I solved it. If you have a compilation CD just ad "Various Artists."

I'm not sure if someone else has posted a similar problem or not, since this thread is tremendous, but...

My mp3s won't play. Nothing plays. I click on it, I hit the play button, and it just sits there. Nothing happens. Am I missing something?

Uninstall 7; Reinstall 6

How do I uninstall 7 and reinstall 6?

As much as I like the new features in 7, I really hate the icon.

Thanks!

The icon is not worth uninstalling the whole thing, Look up Apples support site, they might have v6

im back to itunes 6.0.5 now, tried literally everything to get 7 to work but can't (even tried reinstalling OSX) i have no third party apps, im gonna wait for 7.01 before i try it again. (seeing the apple itunes discussion forums, im guessing it wont be far off!)

if its objecting to something in my library then it doesnt give me chance to figure out what it is before crashing, and besides any well written application would skip a dodgy track not fall over because of it.

I almost had to do a restart. Between a couple of other software updates(nothing too big though) my computer was struggling when 7 first launched...

iTunes looks tons better, IMHO. Maybe it's because I'm in my 40s but I like the more subdued look. It's a lot easier to focus on, not so much flash. That might be part of the reason for the makeover, to appeal to an older customer especially now that movies are being sold. How many 15 year olds are going to fork out $15 for a movie? yeah, I thought so...

I'd love to see a demographic breakdown of iTMS customers.

Kudos To Apple! Fantastic iTune 7 Upgrade

I was very happy to hear the surprise news that Apple had released an iTunes 7 upgrade - at long last! :D

After reading all the unbelievable amount of whining I was very hesitant to install it. However there were enough posts in here of people who love this upgrade, so my curiosity overcame my caution.

I installed iTunes 7 last night and man, this thing is great. Thank you Apple for all the hard work.

It's not yet perfect by any means, but I like the direction Apple is going with this free app.

I like the appearance, the left column looks okay to me, and the shading looks good. I don't find the icon ugly at all. What's the big deal with everybody on the silly icon - sheesh!

The new features such as coverflow, and gapless playback (finally!) make this well worth the time. The new iPod sync interface is a tremendous improvement from what we had before.

I hope that Apple is reading this forum and taking many of the complaints seriously, because there are a few legitimate glitches. But I'm sure Apple will fix them in the upcoming releases - they responded quickly with iTunes 6 to the point where it was a very stable, beautifully executed app.

I would like to point out a few things I'd like to see in future releases:
  1. Add a preference of no crossfade on gapless tracks
  2. Improve the CD insert printing feature. It's great, but I'd like more user flexibility such as:
    • ability to set font size
    • ability to specify the order of cover art on mosaics
    • ability to select view columns (time, year, composer, etc.)
    • provide ability to print more than one line per track
  3. Bring back the orange, rotating Burn icon! I loved that thing!
  4. Bring back the Visualizer button conveniently placed at the bottom of the screen
  5. Bring back the colored volume slider knob that turned blue when selected

Thank you Apple for continuing to improve your products.

Okay, nevermind. I checked Apple's iTunes support forum and somebody had the same problem. It turns out the OSS 3D plugin was the problem. I removed it. No OSS 3D, no problem.

I do, i changed it to the old one.

I downloaded it for the auto cover art fetching alone.

No complaints so far. It plays audio and hasn't given me any problems, that's all I care about. I could care less what the icon looks like or the color of the scroll bars. :p

Auto cover art = greatest thing ever :D
Looks like I've got some ID tagging to do to fix some others but oh well...still no gripes from me.

When playing from playlist and it goes to next song the album cover does not change??? I thought the cover would change on every new song playing on the old version??

In the little cover art box at the bottom left of the window, you need to change the option from 'Selected Item' to 'Now Playing'. This isn't a new thing, except 'Now Playing' was the default in iTunes 6 whereas 'Selected Item' seems to be the default in 7.

How do we report a bug? I record audio shows and they are stored as protected AAC files. These no longer show up in my Library....instead they show up in Audiobooks. I always thought of the Library as the full list and then you could break it down. Any thoughts...without having to convert all the protected AAC files to mp3?

The reason they come as protected you mnay ask....when recording with Audio Hijack Pro in AAC...iTunes recognizes them as this! Guess I could record in mp3 now daily instead!

Hijack Pro is doing this to give you the bookmarking and speed control functions only implemented for Audiobooks, perhaps you should check with them if you can disable this behavior and save as a plain jane AAC M4A file instead of M4B.
