Because when you purchase certain albums from iTunes you get the album artwork booklet as a pdf, but when you try to open it from your iTunes library it pops open preview.
So that's why. I never knew that.

So I can easily make a dance mix, happy mix, driving mix, etc.
I organize my music by seasons. "2008 3~4: Penryn iMacs," "2008 5~6: WWDC 2008," etc. I have to type those into the Album text box because there aren't any tags.

And one more feature relating to point 15: Twin a music video or another video but keep only the soundtrack. So I have a music video and its music in two "separate" files in the iTunes Library (but actually one file in the Finder).

Make songs or albums that start with 'The' or 'A' be sorted according to the first word and not the second by default! Or at least an option to change it.

I get the reasoning behind artists being sorted as such eg. Beatles, The, but not for albums and songs.

why not wi-fi wireless syncing? i think that'd be pretty cool dunno if it's possible tho... i dont see why not .. if you can get a song straight from itunes store in your phone why can't you sync thru wi-fi from your computer...

I want it heavily bug tested more than anything. I'm tired of waiting for .1 releases for a stable release. I know it's easier to let end users beta test, but I would rather have it late than buggy.

The same feature I hope for with every update: full Audible.com subscription integration with the iTunes store.

Apple should take the Safari route and send it out as a public beta in September with the revised iPods, then release a full version at MWSF with the rumored Apple mini-tablet.

I remembered another big one on my list: Syncing iPod/iPhone without opening iTunes. I know that iTunes Helper is already running all the time anyways, so why can't it sync devices or download podcasts in the background?

That would be killer for me, because I always forget to sync, yet hate having it open iTunes whenever I connect my iPod.

If someone knows why this is impractical (or just plain stupid), please let me know. :D

I want tabbed iTunes so that if your playing music in a playlist, the library, etc, when you open some other source, such as another playlist, movies, podcasts, etc, it won't stop the song when you hit space; I want it to pause. Now, a stop button would be great, just add it to the interface and make a simple key combination for it to work. Also, faster would be nice. I don't understand why some people think the iTunes interface is bad, I much prefer it WMP (which is, admittedly, the only media player I've ever used for music). Though I think if the interface was changed to make it prettier, more useful, and without slowing down, then that would be great.

Ability to color the font of a selected playlist so you have an easy way knowing later on what the heck you were working on after you have been distracted by noticing your house is on fire or whatever.

i want Apple to surprise me with a completely new feature that nobody will think of or even consider the possibility of it being in iTunes.

The ability to stream audio and video content to the Iphone or Touch via the remote app would be nice.

Completely agreed. This is really really annoying.

I think this will happen. I really do. :)

... and then wait for the incessant complaining about the new feature.

Just saw this in another thread; the person wanted to have iTunes automatically turn on the visualizer. I think that would be an awesome feature; automatic functions, such as the telling iTunes when to turn on the visualizer or to make iTunes an alarm clock (without third-party software).

iPod syncing

uhhhh.....
can't believe nobody said this but, BRING BACK THE COPY OFF iPod FEATURE!!!

also, linux supprt.
(hey, a guy can dream! ;) )

Yeah, when did that disappear? I remember seeing it on Apple's website sometime in spring of 2007...what happened to it?

I didn't know that, as I never bought an album from iTunes. I only buy physical CD's in order not to be tied in to a given shop/format/corporation (oh, and be able to future proof my music AND have it in a decent format). But NOW I can see why you want it to open in iTunes, and not preview. That makes sense.

Seems like more bloat to me. Yes, I know, it could just be "an option", but still. Hell I never even use the visualizer, as I consider it eye candy with no purpose whatsoever.

LOL, not a chance! Neither of them even have disk mode any more.

I really want a complete strip down of iTunes to make it just a jukebox and music store, no video, no photos, no iPods. And I want iPods to be synced through some 'iMedia' like app that's just designed for that. So you'd have an iPhoto for photos, iTunes for Music and an iVideo for videos.

I second that. Sometimes I purchase songs from iTunes or download podcasts and my iPhone isn't exactly right beside my laptop plugged in so I would like the option to click "Sync Wirelessly" via Wifi possibly for iPhone and iPod Touch.

Ability to view photos and better video viewing
Definitely. Album art does not cut it for me if I want a picture of the WWDC invitation on a song.

Good idea. That iTunes would have a few additional features specifically for music management and editing. iMedia would be basically what iTunes is now, with additional cues from iMovie. iMedia would have the option of having its own media library or using the existing iTunes/iPhoto/iMovie libraries.

------------iTunes----GarageBand
iMovie ---------\---------/
iMovie ----------\-------/
iMovie ---------- iMedia ---------- iPhoto
iMovie ----------- iM|
iMovie ----------- iM|
iMovie ----------- iWeb

Yes! Something like that would be a great solution to the main problem I mentioned in my earlier post. One of the biggest problems with iTunes is that they've tried to cram everything into. And as we all know, trying to be all things to all people means you wind up being nothing to everyone. I'm not sure if what your flow chart describes is exactly the solution, but certainly iTunes as it stands now is being killed by trying to be pulled in several different directions at once. Is it a media jukebox? Is it a media store? Is it an application store? Is it a mobile device syncing program? Is it a podcast download manager and podcast sync manager? etc.

I'm not sure exactly what would be the best way to split these duties into separate programs, I can see some problems with the exact split as you've described it, but clearly having all these duties stuffed into one program is causing iTunes to grow worse with every update.

p.s. Ha! my quote revealed your spacing trick! I just use the forum's "code" function to do precisely formatted text.

I was checkin out the iTunes 7.7.1 update and I started to think about what I would like to see in iTunes 8. Here's a small, rough list.

  1. 100% Cocoa - I know that Carbon isn't awful or anything, but I would like to see Apple move away from the technology that it has been telling developers to move away from for years. Time to put your money where your mouth is.
  2. Make 'Album Artist' the Default 'Artist' - I would rather have an album show up under the main artists name (eg John Scofield) rather than the artists that perform on that track (eg Aaron Neville, Dr. John, John Mayer, John Scofield, Mavis Staples & Warren Haynes). Make a 'Track Artist' field. I don't know. I don't have a solution, but I sure do have a problem! :p (I know I can sort by Album Artist, but that doesn't help me when I'm browsing my iPod.
  3. Make Video Viewing Better - I don't know how, I just don't really like it how it is.

Those are the 3 that come to mind right now. What are yours?

Browsing my Album Artist is a must.

I've sent feedback to Apple a few times about this...

I want to get rid of extra entries in the song lists for music videos and PDF's. You should be able to "attach" music videos to a song, so there's only one entry for the song and attached music video. The song would have the video icon next to it, double click the song and it would play the normal MP3/AAC/Whatever file, click the video icon and it would play the music video (as someone else said, video playing needs to be improved aswell)

PDF's should be incorporated into the album art, click the album art and if it's a PDF booklet, open in a cover flow type thing, where you can "turn" the pages with your mouse.

I'm still waiting for an easy way to convert song formats. I constantly use iTunes to change a song to MP3 or AIFF, but to do this I must dig through Preferences to find the setting, and then change it back when I'm done converting. Why not just have a pop-out menu under Advanced that says "Convert song to...", and select AAC, or MP3, or whatever it may be?

That's my wish. :)

And tabs in the iTunes Store.
