Maybe they need to separate it from the Finder a little bit. It looks too much like a Finder window in 8.2. It needs to scream "media player" and not be confused with a regular old window.

Does the iPhoto window need to scream "photo browser", the Pages window scream "text writer", the Numbers window scream "number cruncher", the Keynote window scream "boom your ass off", etc... ?

Tried to update through the Update Software but it said that i was up to date.

WRONG! I have iTunes 8! What gives....?

same here, i clicked Help > Check for Updates in iTunes and it says 8.2.1 is the the most recent...
note: i'm on a PC, and i don't have the newest iPhone OS (3.x) for my Touch if that matters at all.

I really think the large amount of music, completely different toolbar size (content), completely different sidebar, often the window size itself, etc, was enough to differentiate. What's Safari, Mail, address book, 99% of third party apps, and all of the rest of the OS's excuse for keeping with the same window theme.

There was no reason to change the UI, other than for the sake of change.

I like the change. iTunes needed a UI refresh. I'm satisfied.

iTunes needed a UI refresh.
Source?

I entirely disagree. The window hardly looks different between active and inactive and the bright white UI is much too loud compared to the professional subdued colors of iTunes 8. Now it looks like a cheap plastic toy, or an aqua UI from the bondi blue era.

Awesome. Just had my first iTunes 9 crash while DLing the new OS for the iPod touch.

I would love it if they gave you the option of different colors or just different schemes. I would like it to be a darker/black style. I hate the white behind everything, especially in my Movies/DVD tab. It just looks weird. The whole UI refresh looks similar to a skin I used to use back when I skinned iTunes on my XP computer.

Okay, a few complaints + bugs.

When I click the green + button when iTunes is in the miniplayer, it maximizes... however when I click the green + button again the window just jumps position and doesn't return to the miniplayer - VERY ANNOYING!

Secondly, the new volume bar... the whole bar should be darker... and as the slider moves down it should be lighter on the right side of the circle indicator instead of darker (the way they have it now). They have it switched around as to how it should be imo. Not very intuitive like this.

That's all I can spot so far...

anyone else having trouble with getting itunes into the mini-player?

green button seems to resize to screen, uh oh

Argh, that sucks.

My irritant is the "new items" badge is gone from my podcast playlist.

No Sort Buttons in Grid View

They took out the Albums/Artist/Genre/Composers sort buttons on top of Grid View. So the only way to sort is to go through the View on the menu bar! Seriously Apple?

That took me a second to figure out. I have yet to find a redeeming quality to the UI.

EDIT: and of course Apple would take inconsistencies one step further, the get info boxes don't even match the new UI.

iTunes really is OS X's bastard child.
