I also like that they have a bunch of music videos and trailers you can view right in the iTMS, for free. I'm sure someone will figure out how to capture the video and download it for free...

Before Tiger, I went to the music store loaded a video, then would search for invisible files made that day. The video was temporarily stored with a long file number type name. Once u found a file the right size i would change the extention and name the file the video name. Played perfectly in quicktime. Seems like this lil trick has been disabled in tiger. The ability to find invisible files is still there with Open Apple + F and then choosing "Other" and then visibility, but it doesnt show the videos for me anymore.

Also, I bought iLife '04 CD off of ebay. I bought the cd cuz i didnt have a superdrive or a fast enough proc for garageband, and figured since the CD lacked these apps it would be cheaper. When i tried to install it would not let me because i had a dvd drive. So again i searched for invisible files on the cd and i found the package contents and installed that way. When clean installed tiger, i tried this method and it would not let me, i had to use another computer to do the trick, then drag the packages to my desktop to install. Apple seems to have plugged the invisibility hole....

I believe that there's an app that makes it easy, but I don't know what it's called. I use tcpdump (a terminal app), which saves everything going through your network port. I then search through the resulting file to find where the video is coming from, and then copy the link into Download Wizard. If you understood that, you're doing quite well :)

Is there anyway to find the video from Dave Matthews Band's "Stand Up"?

Oh, is there anyway to hack out Digital Booklets from the iTMS?

I agree

yeah, Id have to agree with everyone else on this.. iPod Video.. But anyone, how does this integrate with iPod Photo? Does it? Or does it exclude the upload..? (watch in the next few days new upgrade for iPod photo, I would spaz!).. But I must say, i love the this!! Also, you can import mov files into iTunes now, and watch them from iTunes, I love that most of all!

iPorn

Hey, I hate to bring this up, but there is this crack pot theory, or so that someone made up that Steve Jobs is making iPorn; obviously a joke, but here is the link iPorn.. Perhaps they are going in this direction, and BBspot is right again!? They were right, as some say they predicted iPod shuffle.. hahah if this is true, id have to kill Steve thou.. However, just making a point on how htis is actually going in that direction O_O

There are apps that can do that already, aren't there?

Steve, nor Apple, pre-announce products.

Example: Conference call (Oct 2004) - they said they would NOT enter the sub-$500 computer market. Two months later....Mac mini.

Never take anything Apple says (referring to non-existing products) as gospel.

You may be on to something. So Apple's claim that a G5 PowerBook is the mother of all thermal challenges means that....

G5 PowerBooks tomorrow? WWDC perhaps?

To be fair, Steve's main objection of video iPods was that there wasn't any content for portable video-players. You'd have to pirate and/or convert any movie you had on them. If Apple can set up a system that provides users with content made for a video iPod, be it music videos, TV or movies, there's really no reason not to.

Do they have older videos available? I'm not that interested in a lot of newer, higher profile artists, but if I can find some old videos that I loved from about 5+ years back, it might convince me to actually give iTunes a try. Second, how much do these videos cost to buy, and how much do the record labels get out of this, I need to know how much disgust I need to have for myself when I start giving the RIAA and their companies my money.

Yes, but in Tiger they don't work because the temporary QT cache directory has changed, as well as the filetypes created (they used to be saved as .mov files, now they're .qtch files). :(

If they sell videos online, they might incorporate a similar protocol like BitTorrent to easy the burden on their servers and their bandwidth. Doing so, they may be able to sell the licenses for a dollar or two.

He also said, that it wasn't easy to use these gadgets while you walk or bike, because you cannot pay attention to it, making them almost unuseable, at least in these cases.

Agreed!! I would sign up for an Apple-branded Netflix-like service (downloading, of course) in an instant.
Apple having a netflix style service for downloading is still a bit off in my opinion. Movies = big files to download and to serve. For Apple to have enough movies and them to download at a good enough pace, the video would have to be sooooooo compressed its not even worth watching.

iPod changes

when i updated my ipod with the DMB album Stand Up today, i went into the ipod settings in iTMS 4.8...and the tabs at the top (widows version) have changed...there arent 2 tabs anymore...only one entitled music. Also, when it was updating the iPod it came up with a message that said "itunes did not load the video "stand up-Video" because this iPod is not compatible.

this makes me think that soon they will add another tab to the prefereneces that says Video...and they will have an iPod that is compatible with the videos you can now download in the store ;)

Dave Matthews Band

Slightly off topic, but I was disappointed not to see the full DMB catalog this morning. I'm probably not going to buy the new album -- Dave's voice is all growly and weird -- but I do need to replace a few of the older ones.

Seems like I read that the full catalog is on the Sony BMG download service (that nobody uses) since Dave is on BMG.

But the wishlist is getting shorter: DMB catalog, DMB concert CDs, Radiohead, and the Beatles. If the Apple Music lawsuit is ever settled, I hope it will include Apple carrying the Beatles' catalog.

Ah yes, we're talking about Tiger now, aren't we... ;)

New Stuff Tuesday

Doesn't the store usually go down around 9 a.m. ET if we're getting new stuff? If so, we're coming up on the magic hour in about 15 minutes.

(I'm not holding my breath.)

Has anyone noted that the PSP has a pixel ratio of 480 x 272? I believe that the video player doesn't take advantage of the full ratio tho'.

anyone attempted this?
