No video DRM?

I'm very surprised that Apple would allow download of these sorts of video clips without DRM. This just seems like the perfect opportunity to test the video download model for DRM-related issues.

If they sell videos online, they might incorporate a similar protocol like BitTorrent to easy the burden on their servers and their bandwidth. Doing so, they may be able to sell the licenses for a dollar or two.
I'd like to see BitTorrent used for selling videos or any other download service. Especially if it was modified to download off the closest available machines - why download off someone in a different state or country if there's someone down the road.

Has anyone noted that the PSP has a pixel ratio of 480 x 272? I believe that the video player doesn't take advantage of the full ratio tho'.

anyone attempted this?

Perhaps thats the Sony - Apple partnership thats been hinted about (MWSF '05) Sony starts using iTMS, and the future iTVS... featuring PSP and PS3 compatability.....

PS - Check out my new sig.... muahahahahaha

You spend all that money and then you cheap out and don't go for the 30" display? :p

The 30" was: a) so big it didn't look like it would fit right on my desk, and b) another 1500 for only 7" didn't seem like much of a value.

If I wanted more screen space, Id rather get another 23" and span my desktop across the two.

iPod Photo's resoution

What is the resolution of the iPod color's screen?

those video dimentions sound familiar

The video download feature is cool and the harbinger of things to come, but for now I'm most excited about the inclusion of the liner notes in pdf form. I've been waiting for this since the availibility of online music. I like to have all the liner notes, not just the cover art. With the liner notes AND the video, it now seems that iTunes has added value to the standard CD release.

I realise they are adding to the service, but I think it's all fluff. I read the liner notes once and they stay on the shelf seeing as I don't really need them with my pod or in the car when I am listening to the music. And videos on a screen as small as a PSP or pod is just ridiculous. It's nice to know Apple are developing all the time without waiting until the product goes stale, but I only see these efforts as puff.

Do you know what i am thinking. If apple would say start a sort of cinema.. You go to the iTunes Music/Movie Store and you go to movies then you buy a movie ticket...ok. Movies only show at certain times just like in the cinemas.. The advantage of this is that now you can watch movies at home and you dont have to go all the way down to the cinema to watch it. Most people nowadays have home cinema systems anyway so this would be great. I for one would be really interested. The video quality would also be really good since it will be streaming in H.264.
Well this is my thought...take as you wish..but it would be an awesome idea..me thinks

Interesting concept. However, I think those who go to the theater do so to get out of the house. They enjoy getting together with hundreds of strangers to watch a movie.

The other factor is that, one would have to have a pretty big screen to simulate the large screen of the theater. A super big screen is part of the experience of watching Star Wars or some other big budget movie.

The future does look bright for video and the internet. Apple is doing some incredible things which will pay off even more in 5 years from now.

I remember when videos were made as a tool to PROMOTE THE SONG! I can't believe cell phone companies, and now apple, are actually selling these and people are buying them.

Fair enough then! Yah, that's a sweet setup...

Are you going to feel bad when Jobs announces the 3 GHz G5s at WWDC in a month? ;)

Why would video just be movies? What about TV shows. Think about the latest trends in TV; HD, Tivo, and yes, BitTorrent. These days half the people I know don't watch TV shows when they're on, but they record them on Tivo. A smaller number of people I know download TV shows, in HD, with BitTorrent. And how many people have you heard want ala carte cable and on demand programming? The couch potato population is declining, and people are getting picky about what they watch. Follow the trend and you reach...

The iTunes TV store. Single television shows for maybe $1. HD shows for $2. Complete season and series subscriptions reasonably priced. And maybe, just maybe, the original promise of cable finally fulfilled: NO ADS!

1) Apple wont sell H.264 videos in iTunes because only G5s can play them - iPods can't.
Doesn't H.264 scale down so videos can play on cell phones?
Not sure, but I think an iPod processor can compare to the one in a phone.
Maybe iTunes in future will scale the music videos down for iPod playback?

It's just a thought ...

I know it sounds odd, but aren't those specs for a PSP video?...

Edit: I see someone beat me to that thought. :D

Has anyone tried to see if the videos share using the music sharing feature in iTunes?

I also am waiting for it to show up in software update...

I tried sharing a video between my G5 and my Powerbook with the video hosted on the G5.The Powerbook could not see the video.

Also re: software update.
Some people have reported problems using software update.I suspect it to be a limited, sparse bug having to do with the way some people installed 10.4 then used backup to restore previous settings from ILife,Calendar and one other backup. This could also be a tiny bug in 10.4 Server..dunno
:)

But shouldn't be available through SU? I thought that all updates were available throught SU. Am I missing something here?

Normally they are - dunno why this one is different. Nonetheless, I wasn't letting that stop me from having my latest iTunes.

downloading dave's new cd as we speak- i hope the video with it is good. I'm happy to see dave is putting his stuff on itms. I'm a huge fan and it was bothering me. Eventually when they release all their cds on itms im sure they'll include videos with all album purchases.
