Wow!

This is like Independence Day, you know, everybody reporting in from everywhere that spaceships are sighted.

They annoyed me this time.. I had 8 songs in my basket and i'm unable to purchase them - I can understand with an online store that delays something for at least 24 hours... but for an instant content delivery system it's rather annoying as a customer.

You won't be if Apple are increasing the bitrate of audio tracks as part of the update. It's about time they did.

Does this mean we won't be seeing iTunes 7.0? I mean if they were releasing a new iTunes wouldn't they make the changes on the new release?

I'm still waiting for my TV Shows in the UK :(

Fully agree! If this is an update to globally release movies and tv shows all I have to say is FINALLY

If it's not... Apple are letting down anyone outside America once again with another America-centered update :/

The danish store gives me the black screen... though at first it said bad link as well... I can't really help to be negative and say that the movie thingie will be a us only at first... I'm all most sure of it!
It took two years for iTunes Music Store to come to DK so why should the movie bussiness be any easier than the music buss...??

Ok, I've been going to macrumors.com for about 8 years or so, but I rarely post. How do I vote whether a story is positive or negative? They each look like a link, but upon clicking either and then refreshing the page.. nothing is any different. Am I missing something?

edit: I know it's kinda OT, but I need to know if I've been doing something wrong all this time.

I might be getting confused here - but isn't the music store just a web thingy and not part of the software? i.e. store and media player distinct, though interlinked

Note that it doesn't say "The iTunes Music Store is being updated." That's a pretty clear sign to me that not only are they going to add movies, it's also now just going to be the iTunes Store.

Very good point. I've never seen it called the iTunes Store before by Apple. It can't be a coincidence.

If the iTunes Music Store is going to be called the iTunes Store (iTMS > iTS?) then shouldn't the name iTunes change as well to coincide with the change in available media?

I'm sure this was cause for much discussion at Apple. iMovie is taken obviously. iTunes is already very well known, so they must have decided to just stick with that. The "i" doesn't really mean a whole lot anymore anyway (iWeb = Internet Web?!), so why should "Tunes"? ;)

They would have to update the store to handle it as well. I would assume that there will be a new iTunes out today also and that the movie portion of the store wouldn't be backwards compatible.

In reality the whole 'Showtime' theme is really just to introduce a new movie staring Steve.

yeah, but there is a link in your itunes software (client) which has "Music Store" - u know.. down the left side where your playlists are..

Wouldn't they need to change that to a generic "Store" or something..

To be honest I don't care about the bitrate of audio tracks..

However if they brought American TV shows onto a global release date (ie we get them the same time as they do) - THEN i'd care about the update.

Anything else is just more clutter..

It is built into the iTunes software. The store uses XML markup that looks a lot like HTML, but it's not.

They'll release iTunes 7.0 with "iTunes Store" in it's place and it will all come back online after the event.
