Probably more like updating to newer more secure protocols like TLS 1.2 or 1.3. TLS 1.1 has been being phased out by everyone. Nothing to do with certificates.

If so, than not updating the original Apple TV (few text files) by Apple is just pathetic and arrogant. :-(

I guess its a bit sad. But they did discontinue the product many years ago.

Good thing no one builds Apple TVs into an actual TV. Hate to think you can't use your TV because it is deemed "obsolete."

TVs most certainly become obsolete, an 11 year old TV is outdated, there's no question about it.

Many people seem to have this weird, strange idea that when a company finally stops supporting an old, outdated product...it somehow prevents them from using it...it just won't be getting anymore updates. Of course in this situation, I suppose some core functionality is removed...but people give away 2nd gen Apple TVs for almost free on Craigslist all day...at this point, if you're still using this thing, it's not because you have to.
