Sony TV, Samsung TV, Sharp TV, Panasonic TV, Visio TV, Zenith TV, etc. etc. Umm Apple TV. It seems to me if you want to compete in the TV market, the name Apple TV for their television is the only way to go. Not having Apple in the name would be counter to the television set marketplace and people wouldn't realize that Apple actually is selling a TV. They can rename the hobby "Apple TV 3 Set-Top Box" for those not wanting or needing a TV. I doubt after seeing the size of the image no one will confuse the two TVs.

Wow That's a lot of TVs  Lame I know

I'm pretty sure ITV (UK) would be annoyed since they've been using the name since before Apple even existed.

If they haven't heard of it, it must not exist right:rolleyes:?

I'm not confused. These are two different things: one is a product, the other one a service:

- Apple iTV or simply iTV = A product

- iTV Entertainment LLC = A Broadcasting Company

Only the British people may be the ones to get confused, but I believe they are way too smart. Saying consumers would get confused is just another way of insulting consumers of being stupid.

It's still a trademark related to the television industry. There's actually no reason Apple couldn't simply choose a different name. In the reverse situation, Apple would sue. I'm not aware of any lawsuits by Apple that are quite as stupid as the cliched Nissan example.

The iMac, iPad, and iPhone all describe what they are after the "i". The iPod was the only abstract name.

With this logic in mind, then it'll be called the iTelevision. They kill two birds with one stone, ITV & iTV. They can tell both of them to keep their trademarks (flip them the iBird) because it'll be people, not Apple, that will be calling it iTV on the iStreet and in the iPress. Then there will be some pretty iRate lawyers. :D

I've got one I haven't seen yet (so I'm claiming the © here now).

How about iPortal or maybe the Apple Portal. Since it'll be a interactive window to my world. :p

Where's my Crocagator?

Apple has yet to respond to Hughes' latest notices regarding the iTV Entertainment trademark.

It would be one thing if Apple actually had something named iTV, like when the Apple TV was first introduced. This is just fishing...

Apple is one Croc/Gator that might pull you out of your boat and consume you whole while you're still aware... and probably should in this case. Don't poke animals that are already grouchy.

Now, with that said (I'm a little grouchy today... can you tell?). If ITV UK really did make a deal with Apple, it would be like the one made with Apple Corps, transferring ownership of the [name in question] and all associated trademarks to Apple Inc., and Apple Inc. exclusively licensing these back to [company making deal] w/ boat loads of money changing hands in the process. One company makes money up front, and Apple continues to make money going forward. Win / Win. ;)

If I was Apple, I'd pay Hisense to buy the rights to the name from iTV Entertainment for me, since they'd get a better deal. Then make the ITV deal just so Hughes would feel like they got kicked in the pants after the dust settled. Alas this isn't likely, there's too many iTV's running around out there.

Prognostication: Same name, same form factor, better specs (1080p please), more features, same price.

maybe Google or FB will buy it just for fun...

iTV Droid platform or iTV Mac OS....this is interactive TV not Television....

People need to calm down. Look Apple said it was a code name just watch the video about the original preview of the Apple TV (iTV).

I personally don't think there is anything wrong with the name Apple TV in fact I think it sounds stronger then iTV. If they do go with an iSomething name I think it might be something totally different. Something out of the box if you will excuse the pun.

What about Apple iLife or better iLive, but they have to drop the iLife software then.

And for those who think Apple should drop the i before their products, WHY.
The i is still very relevant in most parts of this planet, there are many countries where Apple "just" started to being a "hype".
That you get bored of that i is your problem, same for instance that people call iOS UI outdated, it's not outdated, you are the one which gets bored of it, if you show somebody which never saw the UI they would be amazed.
