On the iup and I cracked my phone, doesn’t apple add the AppleCare additional replacement cost when trading in?

Do we get charged when we pre-order on Friday?

You’ll get charged an upgrade fee, and I believe the first month of the payment, but I think it’s just a credit card charge, but I don’t remember when it processes from pending to posted.

I just did a pre order of iphone 16 pro from apple. I did not see the option of select carrier later and selected AT&T as my carrier, since I was with AT&T before and now ported to US Mobile. I got the confirmation of pre order and says there can be $35 upgrade fee. Do I have to cancel this pre order and do a new pre order? I think it will preload the AT&T eSIM when I try to setup the phone.

Currently not seeing the option to cancel the order on the order confirmation page in app store app and online.

What is the best option here?
Thanks

Just got my CitizensOne approval email:

Thursday Got denied, because of an extended fraud alert on my account.
Said I would be contacted, wasn’t
Called Citizens and appealed the denial, and was told there would be an answer in 4 days.
Friday Placed order at 8:02, and it went through.
Received loan approval email 9:39 and a Congratulations with new account number at 10am.
Not my first rodeo, have used them 4 other times, with same address, and credit information.
But it’s a new world after the nationalpublicdata.com breach.

Can I ask you guys in the iUP a few questions?

When you go to the store to pick up your new iPhone do they open the box or can you take it home and set up yourself?

After you’ve joined the iUP can you get your iPhones delivered instead of going to the store?

And lastly, do you think it’s worth it?

Thanks!

Didn't you say you're in the UK? A friend of mine in the UK told me they don't have the option to have phones shipped to them. Must pick up in person.

Both times when I picked up in person they offered to open the box and help me set up the phone and I said "no thanks!" and bolted. But that was years ago.

I've been a member since the program existed and I love it.

For US, if this the first iPhone on the upgrade program, you can pick up and leave.

If this is not the first iPhone in the program, you will have to set up in store. They will take your previous device and apply it to the existing account.

If you have the option, yes. iPhone on iUP can be either delivered or sent to the Apple Store.

I guess the best thing is that you can keep hold of your iPhone until you pick up the new one? It’s a pain selling then using a burner until you get the new one. Yep, in the UK and have 2 orders. 1 for delivery and 1 for the iUP. Trying to decide which to go for.

I've done the iUP every year and have come to think of it as the iPhone Rental Program. Why? - because it's been quite a few years since there was a price increase for the same model/same memory phone, so all I'm doing when I hand Apple my old iPhone is to kick the purchase rental payments out another 12 months. I don't pay any more, though I do pay for an additional year. Basically, it's a guaranteed sales (repurchase) price guarantee from Apple. And there's absolutely no penalty or fees if I want to get off the iUP moving sidewalk. All i'd need to do is not purchase a new phone and pay off the outstanding balance over the remaining twelve months. To me, with tech hardware, even relatively mature hardware like the iPhone, it makes sense to "rent" the hardware and have a guaranteed put option after twelve months.

You know I think you're right now that I think about this some more. I think I do remember in the second year not being thrilled about erasing my old phone in the Apple Store without being sure the new phone was a-ok. It was so many years ago it's hard to remember.

It absolutely was me for, I have my credit frozen and got an alert the second I submitted to that they tried to run a hard inquiry

They do it every few years which is in their right to do. Mine was hard pulled last year after not being hard pulled since I started the AUP. Soft pull for me this year. It's not that big of a deal. They don't even report the actual loan to credit agencies.

If we got the preorder ready to go and preapproved, then do we need to unfreeze or was it a soft pull?

Mine was a soft pull this year. Hard pull last year. My credit is frozen so I always know. If you've been on the program a while, they do it every few years.

US resident. Been in iUP for years.. always do store pickup. Every year I just leave with the unopened box (each year starts a new loan anyway). Usually by sat or sun, I'm satisfied everything is working ok and I then I go back in, give them my old phone, and they close out the old loan. Easy for me as an Apple Store is about 5 min from my house.

I am kind of curious what their criteria is for doing a subsequent hard pull, or if maybe it's just random. Of course they would never divulge how they decide (however, I presume it's all automated and based on some algorithm). I've been on IUP since 2016 and the only hard pull I've ever had was the first one when starting IUP.

Planning to do the IUP for the first time this year. For folks who have been in it a while, how many years do you end up having to pay for 13 months of the phone just because of the timing of the next model/availability? Doesn't completely break the math but makes it slightly less compelling.

The Program is a 24-month [2-year] program. Once you've made 12 payments, you are given the option to swap out your iPhone model for the latest or continue paying and own the phone outright.

I understand how it works. What I am asking is say the iPhone 17 comes out 53 weeks from now and you have to keep it beyond 12-months, presumably they make you pay for the 13th month even if you have every intention of swapping it as soon as the new device is ready. Makes it a slightly less compelling program if I end up having to pay 13 months every year (or many years) due to timing issues.

It's not 13 payments, it's 12 payments. It has never in its existence made you make more than 12 payments.

That's not how it works. You can upgrade after six months if you've made the equivalent of 12 payments.

And if a phone gets delayed on year the program adjusts. See this post from me in 2021 discussing that scenario.

You guys already on the upgrade program. I’ve just joined the upgrade programme today. Being on it does it make you use your phone any differently? Like caseless or without a screen protector? Seeing your handing back to Apple?
