welcome to the Mac Illusion. where the company makes you believe their hardware is superior to the rest but in reality it all needs to be serviced under warranty. but to do so you will need to make an appointment with a 'friendly' mac genius that will make you wait 30 minutes even though you show up on time to your appointment.

Replace all allusions to computers with "medicine" and "healthcare" and that's about right! :D

Probably because a lot of people are alive, a lot of people get sick, and the limited surgical/clinic staff has to make concessions to admit everyone with medical problems.

Now replace my medical words with computer words and you'll have my rebuttal. ;)

Call applecare and ask for a product specialist. I find customer relations to be useless, but the specialists always did something for me.

wow,

those responses are either silly, stupid or incompetent.

i would look into the claim that there was water damage. you need to disprove that as quickly as possible and have them write this into their system otherwise it's going to come back to you.

good luck!

Wow, how are they silly, stupid or incompetent? Apple's Customer Relations team is the first port of call if you have problems with warranty - if you have a problem, why take it straight to Steve who may ignore it (or his team) when you can go actually talk to somebody who can probably sort the situation out there and then? CR can override stores, geniuses and everybody else - that magical "repair exception" is the ticket you need.

I've spoken to CR several times. Most recently, they replaced a 23" ACD that was three years out of warranty, and I didn't have to go near Steve's email. It also means you don't have to try argue points with mangers/geniuses at the store who will stick to policy (ie: water damage), which is just a waste of your time.

got my email response from Steve?

well.... got my response today and from a guy named steve, don't know if it's steve jobs or not... see below... i'm gonna sell it for parts i guess.... i'm done w/ it...

That looks like some really bad damage. However, we will not be fixing
that water damage, regardless of your gasps of amazement and whatnot.

Steve.

lol.

I read the OP and the rest of the thread, but I didn't catch something.

Did you extend your applecare? Just wondering.

That's rough...

keep tryin, go to a different story or call . call call

That's not a respectful comment to make at the customer...
Try Customer Relations.

that's harsh

I tried emailing sjobs.. and I never got a reply, even after countless emails and talks to customer relations.. idk, maybe its just me =/
Good luck though, hopefully your issue gets resolved

Woah, that response is epic. It sounds like some guy trying to mimic Steve Jobs's attitude, but I really don't think even he would treat a customer that badly... he's into making money, after all.

At the end of the day, it is all about whether you believe OP's story or not.

I don't.

I don't.

I have broken things before. If I broke something really expensive, and am scared I am either

a) out a lot of money

b) in some serious trouble

I would LIE MY ASS OFF. I admit it. Most people would too. If you deny it so bad even you believe it, then it's true. If you lie hard enough to yourself, then you really didn't drop an $8000 microphone.

I've opened laptops that smelled clearly like cream soda whose owners have convinced themselves they never spilled something on it.

If that was Steve Jobs' real response, I would be fine with it, but I highly doubt it was the response.

Why Apple hasn't taken a hint from IBM and begun to make laptops I can spill my morning coffee into while I work without consequence is beyond me. I guess for the same reason they make white macbooks with large frame magnets that slam themselves closed.

ok... to the dumbass who emailed me

ok... so i got another email back from some 12 yr old who spoofed that latest email and said "You shouldn't trust email as a secure way of contacting people. After all, I'm not Steve Jobs. And the person who originally responded to you about your broken MBP probably isn't either. It's still fun pretending to be Steve though. You feel god-like. I hope you don't take this email too seriously. It was just a joke."....

To that person... F*** off... It was a lame joke, a stupid joke, and I knew who you were, I'd make sure you never type again... point blank... end of story...

Thats a lame attempt to spoof a publicly traded email address. If I knew who to forward it to for legal matters, I would...

I'll wait to hear from the "official" Apple response vs some 12 yr old's attempt on spoofing an email.

I'm also giving Apple Customer Relations a call as well. Granted I fell for it and posted "way" too early on this and I fell for this losers attempt of humor.

Mods... if there's a way to get this person's contact info, please PM me. Thanks

LOL, how do you know this person was 12?

Also how are the mods going to get the contact info off a spoofed e-mail on your email account?

Also, I could be wrong, but I think threatening physical harm to somebody has more legal ramifications than spoofing an e-mail.

It is the internet, chill.

BTW, I am less likely to believe your story, but I still wish you luck in your venter to get this taken care of.

How could MacRumors moderators know the contact info of some guy who sent you an email? They aren't in charge of the internet.

why did you even post that if you knew it was fake.
you can easily tell by the headers of the letter and if its not directly from apple.coms servers then you have further proof.
