SSDs

I am more interested in SSDs across the line and more standard RAM

and remove the Glossy screen please.

CPU upgrade is just increment, so it is OKAY.

I'm really looking forward to the Ivy Bridge release.. Faster performance & lower power consumption would mean longer battery life on Macbooks.. Also I hear the Intel HD 4000 is up to 90% faster then the HD 3000..

There is already a SSD option across the line. I'd hate to only have a SSD option as some people need more storage space. I'm really hoping that if the slim down the units and remove the ODD they leave room for either a second drive or that they go the route of having a SDD "on board" like the MBA but also a standard 2.5 HDD Bay. There was talk of this "hybrid" option last year.

Anti-glare options across the line would also be great.

Me too, but it looks like we have to wait a while for the 6+ core Ivy Bridge-E processors to come out... Assuming Apple have not completely lost their minds. Should be ready later this year - next year.

Hum, the next Mac Pro, if there is one, is going to use Sandy Bridge-E, not Ivy Bridge-E. The current Mac Pro uses Westmere and Nehalem processors, a generation behind Sandy Bridge.

Xeon E5s and Xeon E3s are expected Q2-2012. Your Mac Pro refresh is either coming, or Apple is going to EOL it. But you'll know in the coming weeks.

I also like to think that Apple (along with other manufactures) have early access to these new chips. After all, why not pre-sell a bunch to these computer manufactures so that upon launch, there new chip is EVERYWHER in a matter of days/weeks?

So, to break it down for the MINI fans, I myself wanting to buy an update the minute it appears, the mobile chips with low wattage which fit the Mini appear on the June 3rd date.

I'd make a safe assumption that the Mini will therefor not appear on the market until mid-June or later. On schedule, essentially. Looking forward to it, assuming they actually do an update this year.

So, what would the low-end Minis likely get for a processor if new minis come out with Ivy Bridge quad cores? Maybe they'll get dual-core Ivy Bridge or stick with Sandy Bridge with a slight speed bump?

My local Apple reseller has a promotion on all Macs which expires on 16 April. They told me that they are trying to clear out their existing stock ahead of a "possible" product refresh expected to arrive soon thereafter. I know this reseller well and they have good links with Apple. They have always proved to be a fairly accurate source of information in the past. I am expecting new Macs in late April or early May (approx half way between the iPad 3 launch and WWDC in June). I expect them to release new MBA/MBP then with new iMacs to follow later in the year around Oct.

It can't be so! Quad core will distinguish it from the Air line. I refuse to believe!

You're a monster.

Hahah I agree!

LMAO! I'll take the monster ... but I'm not happy with that prediction ... just a gut feeling it'll happen. If not this year then the quad-core will be the final 13" MBP edition - unless sales continue to peak.

BTW ... I LOVE the 13" MBP that I just bought ... I won't ever goto a 15" unless the 13" MBP dies in 3 yrs and that option is no longer available.

Ooh....so this means new iMacs in late April or early May! :D

I can barely wait!

Right there with ya, brother. This seems to be the minority case but some of us are ready to upgrade older iMacs and still need to stay in desktopland. :)

hoping, wishing... 27", i7, 256gbSSD + huge HDD, upgrade GPU, then it's off to OWC for 16 or 32 GB RAM...

wow

Both you and TylerL will be picking up the late 2011 MBP Dual Core i7 machine - I highly doubt the 13" MBP will live on ... its had 4/5 generations just like the 12" PowerBook before that died (just as it was getting very powerful as well).

i hope dey keep the ODD and i might think of goin with 2012 13" if not maybe trade in for late 2011 from my early 2011 13"

I can't wait also. I hope you are correct re April or May, but does anyone have an idea when the article states Chips go on sale late April, does that mean on sale for Apple, HP, Dell and the likes or have the manufacturers already been privy to the processors so they can update their products and the meaning of on sale is for the DIY create your own PC and now you can go online to PCmall and new processors are on sale there?

Otherwise, if on sale at end of April means for Apple and the rest, how long does one think it takes to order and ramp up production and have available for sale? It's been, according to MR, 330 days and counting seen last iMac.

Hopefully they put i7's as standard in the top end 21.5 and 27 inch iMacs.

It's been speculated Apple is going with the i3 quad core with slightly higher clock speed to get lower power dissipation but comparable to the current i5 offering on the lower end iMac's.

The 21" will be upgrdable to the i5 and the 27" upto an i7.

This will allow them to remove the ODD & make the iMac thinner.

SSD & memory upgrades will cost about the same as today.

They will also utilize the Intel GPU this time around for better power consumption.

So, no significant performance upgrades on the iMac.
Just lower power consumption & slimmer profile.

May be they will take this opportunity to make the 3.5 inch chin smaller.

Current 2720QM quad core processor in 15" MBP has a TDP of 45W, resulting in high system temperature and increased fan speeds. I don't see how Apple could decrease the size of the MBP and put in a quad core Ivy Bridge with a 45W TDP. So it's back to dual core systems until Haswell comes out?

Edit: Unless they ditch the dedicated graphics card entirely...

How would this work if the low voltage chips used for the Air aren't available until June?

Personally, this articles explains why people were receiving emails from Apple about the Air, when Apple only sends emails for new products.
