"Chowdhry has a history of making grandiose claims."

So why give him the attention?

Yeah indeed. On the one hand, it's macRumors. On the other, you would think some editorial work would do wonders in keeping these super improbable rumors of the front page.

I don't think Apple will ever sell 3D printer, but I will be surprised if Apple is not exploring 3D printing for component manufacturing.

We were supposed to get paperless offices, now it seems we are getting 3D landfill. WTF? Stop making ****, live lightly.

I think he's right. If Apple doesn't announce the iWatch by next monday, it will disappear...

then when they introduce the iWatch or whatever product they are scheduled to bring out next, they will come back with a bang and last for oh another couple billion dollars and it will be like they never disappeared to begin with ...

----------

on a side note - i was curious about the meaning of the name "Trip"

For anyone else more curious about his first name then the pointless claim -
This began as a nickname, usually for someone who was a "third," as in William III. But in an age where any noun goes, this could be thought of as representing a little voyager -- hopefully not into psychedelic realms.

"Chowdhry has a history of making grandiose claims."

Exactly my thoughts after reading this. We can ALL make outrageous and unrealistic claims about Apple, why are HIS being broadcast?

3D printer is overrated.

With that being said, I could still see every home having one within the next 30 years. :p
The tech isn't mature enough to be broadly useful at the moment.

Still, it is the effective predecessor to replicators. Give it 50-100 years and odds are we'll be able to '3D Print' our own furniture, and potentially even buildings.

The C&C Construction Yard / MCV could be seen as a goal for future 3D Printers. Such a vehicle would have many utilities indeed, both for general civilian, military, and relief purposes.

Even more reason to be excited. I've lost about 5 of those little Fitbits but the company keeps replacing them when lost.

I've considered a fitbit or similar and considered a couple of different smart watches. I have just been waiting for the iWatch before making my move. Assuming the iWatch looks like an adult watch and not a nike fuelband or a kids watch I will probably buy it.

Apple has a monopoly on breakthrough innovation. They will do the 3D printer eventually, and it will be revolutionary.

Im sick of it.

These so called analysts are getting so outlandish with their predictions. I by no means am an analyst but I can tell you there is no way apple will ever put out a 3D printer. They hardly want to make computers and monitors anymore let alone a niche market 3D printer.

unless that 3D printer can manufacture iPhones and iPads its a no go.

I just downloaded a model for a 3D printer, but I need a 3D printer to print it.

Once 3D printers can print 3D printers, what's to stop them from replicating ad infinitum and enslaving humanity?

Of course, I for one, welcome our new printing overlords.

Especially if they get them to the point of being able to print beyond plastics. Say hardened steel and other metals.

Using metal powder and a laser sintering process, they've already 3D printed a metal gun that works.

Once 3D printers can print 3D printers, what's to stop them from replicating ad infinitum and enslaving humanity?.

3D printer kits often come with plans to 3D print a copy of themselves.

Of course, I for one, welcome our new printing overlords.

I think they heard you. Brown noser!

The"ink" isn't a traditional wet or liquid ink like ink jet printer type .. 3D printer "ink" is spool of abs plastic type of "ink" ..

More info on 3D "ink" from 1 maker of 3D printers

Well, that's just one type of 3D printing (Fused deposition modeling). The other type (SLA) uses a photo-sensitive liquid (or powdered metal; looks like kdarling beat me to it) that is then solidified using lasers... like Formlabs recent 3D printer.

The SLA style 3D printer (though an industrial strength version) is what I used to prototype my Broken Heart Robot toy 8 years ago, and FDM is what I recently used for my current prototype [edit] which I can no longer show here because the moderators say it is solicitation.

Why would Google do a 3D printer and Apple wouldn't?

For the same reason why Google makes Google Glass, a Driverless Car and Internet Access via Hot Air Balloons and Apple doesn't. Different product philosophies.

I don't see it happening, but just wait until the Apple replicator is release ;)

BTW saw my first 3D printer in a store the other day, $1500 is a steep price since it can't print much yet. But it would be fantastic if a tiny part broke on my car, just print up a new plastic whatever.
