Then you should know to take these concepts with a grain of salt. These concepts come pouring in without an ounce of thought when it comes to function or how its design breaks new ground. Looking cool isn't enough.

Glad to see you read the rest of my post.

I'll state it again, yes, we have no idea what it will look like. At all. But there's a chance the concepts might be right, for the reasons I stated earlier, but, they could also be complete wrong.

Do you want me to just tell you you're 100% right and I, as well as the artists that made the concepts, are totally wrong?

Jeez.

I heard that insiders at Apple are sick of all the questions concerning this iWatch rumor. There is no iWatch. Apple is not working on a watch.

Now, if that is true. It would be amazing if all these other companies rushed their supposedly smart watches to market in anticipation of Apple doing so.

You know what's even more amazing?

When other companies do something first, it's because they wanted to beat Apple to the punch

When Apple does something first, everyone else is copying

It'll be interesting, but I don't think that this kind of product is going to replicate the success of the iPhone, because, in my opinion, the form factor only comes into its own for fitness fanatics.

The size restrictions of a human wrist means that a watch is always going to be restricted in screen size, and because of this, a watch can only ever really only show you a considerably smaller subset of information than your iPhone, and so the utility of it is limited compared to an iPhone.

If you're just walking along casually, an iWatch is surely just an unnecessary duplication of functionality since it's just as easy to leisurely pull an iPhone out of your pocket, than it is to move your arm up to your face to read a watch.

So, I only see it making sense for fitness scenarios where the form factor means they can strap the device securely to themselves. I think that most people use their phone to tell the time now and have moved on from traditional wristwatches. I haven't worn a watch for at least 10 years.

I get strings of texts all the time about 30 seconds apart. I don't want to hold my phone out to wait for the next one because it might be my wife just agreeing with me or she might be asking a question or starting a new topic. This happens daily and everytime I think of wearing an I watch so I can decide to answer or not just by glancing at my wrist while I'm walking, driving, running, watching tv, playing a game, etc. right now I have to pull the phone out of my pocket everytime. If leave my phone on the table I risk walking away without it. I would buy an iWatch for this reason alone never mind he health tracking ability and possible remote control of other Apple devices.

Will it be at least "slash resistant"?

Will this be the FIRST EVER Apple product that claims to be at least slightly water resistant? Or will Apple place water sensors inside the watch just so they can avoid warranty claims?

Every other Apple product has its warranty voided if it gets even the smallest amount of water inside. I'm guessing Apple can't get away with that policy on a watch.

Then after Apple shows the world it IS possible to waterproof an expensive electronic device how can they NOT do that to their iPhone? People will say "Can't you make the phone like the watch? Why not?"

I really, really enjoy seeing a good artistic rendition of an unseen product...! That is a major part of why I hang out here. Recently; I really enjoyed the iOS 8 concept video.. while it has no basis in fact, merely conjecture- as an Apple user & generally reasonable person, I could see that there's a chance that we can expect some features that at least are similar to that "fan fiction" video.
However........... Yes, I think it is WELL within our rights to tell you that you are 100% wrong if you insult our intelligence by intimating that Apple will lose their minds & try the impossible physics of making rectangular notifications round.... or after all the trouble to completely MURDER skeumorphism in iOS 7, that they will idiotically bring it back in the marrying of a brand new product category.. disguised as an archaic time-telling bracelet.
Even if they DO call it iWatch & decide to make it look EXACTLY like a watch for some bizarre reason, it will most certainly not look like most of these garish and ghastly retarded mockups being posted here!!!!!!
I'm so certain of that- I'd put up the title of my house, the deed to my car, & all the money in my bank account against a dozen donuts if you're a betting man. =P

Right.... right, because waterproof ELECTRONIC devices are as common as waterproof watches... & there wasn't a report on here recently about how Apple (the only device manufacturer I've EVER heard of doing this) just relaxed their policies & is allowing replacement of water damaged phones.... & oops I can't hear my next thought something is growling from underneath this bridge as I'm trip trip tropping across.

Thanks, but I don't have much interest in your house, car, or money.

I have an opinion, there's no reason to insult me. I never said that the iWatch will look like watches as we know it, I was sharing something called a thought, an opinion, and further I've stated repeatedly that it's very likely the iWatch will look like nothing we've ever seen before.

I'm not here to insult anyone, and I certainly haven't made any comments against anyone's intelligence.

Don't we all have better things to do than swear all of our life's assets against someone else's thoughts regarding an unreleased product?

My oh my.

No one else has made a waterproof phone that doesn't have stupid rubber plugs for the holes. And what is everyone else making except Samsung? Non waterproof phones.
So yeah, let's jump all over how bad Apple is for not making waterproof phones.
Get real!

I don't believe pulling your phone out and putting it away is just as easy as glancing at your wrist.
The sole reason I'll be buying one is to keep my phone in my pocket. Just don't like pulling my phone out of my pocket 100 times a day, especially when I'm sitting down. And I'll pay a few hundred $'s to keep my phone in my pocket when I get notifications. :)

My boss is wearing Hublot for 10 000$ and fuelband on the other wrist. Its nice looking band, and Im sure Apple can make it even better. That better, that even the Hublot wont be needed anymore. I wear watches and Im all in for a smart watch. Ill buy on day one. And if you ask me why I say ill buy something that I dont even know what it does or how it looks like...well the answer is simple...its Apple we are talking about...great design, great funcionality, great quality. Im tired of looking to my phone just to check why is vibrating now, what notification I got, is it email from my boss or facebook game invitation. Everything on your wrist...beatiful concept...is it possible? We will see!

My oh my.

Real estate is deeded, vehicles titled....in my neck of the woods.:D

So it's going to be called the iWatch, and it will have a round dial, buttons on the side, a chronometer ring, a leather band, and will likely function similarly to other smart watches on the market?

Ha, ha, ha, ha. Ha.

just like the iPhone was just another mobile phone basically similar to other mobile phones at the time, when it launched ... or have you forgotten what Apple Does well ?

It's easy to see some of the reasons why people might want it. Even easy to see how some may use it, based upon what little we know of it at the moment.

It's as easy to see why some may not want it, or have little use for it.

If it needs an iPhone I'm not getting one (dumped my iPhone, don't want people to interrupt lab work, can't use one while driving and have no need for it at home).

If it needs wifi or 4g/LTE to be of use I'm not getting one; no need to make it easier to arrest and charge me (yeah I'm a tin foil hat wearing member...so what)

So what will it do.....give me biometric information? A Siri operated calculator? Interface with the Apple TV in some nifty manner (that intrigues me a bit). It will of course sell; I just don't want one.

Tom

Lol again you "think" you don't want one. How about you just wait until it's announced.

:)

Not yet it's not, but lets hope it turns out better than Windows 8.

I'm going to assume that OSX will be touch optimized but it won't force you to use touch if you are using a conventional keyboard/mouse like Windows 8 does to confuse the average user....I think OSX will give you the option of switching between a touch interface and the "classic" desktop look.

Apple has obviously been watching Microsoft's gaffe with Windows 8 and I'm pretty confident they will get it right when they release OSX for touch.
