Who knows if Apple's wearable with be watch-like or not, but, if it is, I'm imagining that it'll be something along these lines, since Mr. Ives is so into Dieter Rams:

Exactly. Just like those Martin Hajek iPhone concepts. The first one we saw earlier this year looked like a Galaxy S device, then there was one with a sapphire back that looked like the Nokia Lumia that had the plastic back and aluminum frame. And the latest one looks just like a HTC One. If Apple announces a wearable device that looks like a cheap imitation of a luxury watch (i.e. like a Moto 360) I will be very shocked.

Even a good imitation of a luxury watch should be editorially rejected as something Apple would never do.

It makes sense. If production is happening right now, it wouldn't make sense to hold onto those models until September.

1. The longer it's kept from public, the higher chance of a leak.
2. iOS8 will introduce health book, which wouldn't make as much sense without the context of the wearable.
3. iPhone 6 unveiled side by side with iWatch is too noisy.

iWatch being unveiled in June makes all the sense in the world.

iOS 8 WILL introduce health book?

I was under the impression Apple was working on it but may or may not release it with iOS 8. I was also under the impression it was originally conceptualized for iOS 7 but didn't make it.

I'd bet the house on iOS8 introducing healthbook in June.

It's not going to be a watch.

It's going to be a band like device (think Nike Fuel Band, etc).

Apple won't make something like looks like a watch for something that isn't a watch at all.

That person should go work for Samsung. Taking a watch and imagining it with Apple iOS.

That's not what Apple does...nor should they.

I'm not sure why people continue to think Apple is just going to take a watch and throw some tech in it. If that was the case don't you think this thing would have been out by now? I mean as soon as Samsung heard Apple was making a watch they did exactly that in 9 months time and look at their result...horrible product no one wants.

"Keep me updated"

Is that what the watch will say ??.... good lord...

gone are the days when we reached into out pockets and pulled out our smart-phones.

Now, we all act like Macgyver.. Most of us all also equipped with a rubber band too, so we're good to go :)

I really can't understand why that mockup is being used so much. There is no way it will look like that. The traditional watch design makes no sense for a smart watch.

Hopefully more like this...

Almost every review for the Samsung fit don't like the layout. It looks so good in the pictures but in real life it does not work.

The Moto 360 doesn't look nearly as good in real life as those concept shots.
It is pretty ugly actually.

Is that really it? That really does look as if it were knocked up in a garage, or as a prop for a cheap Sci-fi show. The gap where the wrist band goes is particularly awful.

This just sounds so right. I guess the devils advocate is that a watch surface is a good size for a digital interface. But I'm leaning towards you're opinion.

Oh, I don't know about that.

I have the small version (Gear Fit), and it is amazing how quick you get dependant of some of the basic functionality.

I never carry my phone around with me at home or at the office (it usually stays at the coffee table or desk with the sound turned off), so getting things like texts, e-mails, call notifications, and meeting reminders straight to your wrist makes a huge difference to me.

It is one of those cell phone related things like NFC (I use it every single day), wireless stereo headset or a large screen that you probaly never think would be of much use. Until you actually try them for a few days, that is :)

Just imagine how those same reveiwers will be thrashing something as useless as a round screen then :D

I could go for a device with rounded corners, but not completely round like a traditional watch.

And there is the main problem with watch-like phone extender devices; a lot of people see them as 'jewelry' and will let form trump function, which would seriously compromise the usefulness.

Think it is difficult reading e-mails and texts on the Samsung Gear Fit? It is most likely a walk in the park compared to how it will be on a round device if you are actually going to use more than the central 50% of the round screen to make a square where the text is wrapped.

Why is MR throwing up a mockup that maybe nothing like what the actual device (if it even exists) will look like?

Just as a reference point b/c the vast majority of MR readers have no idea what a watch looks like. :D. Seriously though I'm befuddled as to why so many people think Ive is going to copy a hunk of clunk design and slap an Apple logo on it. That hasn't been Apple's M.O. since the mid 90s.

Creeping closer to:

"And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
"

Ah, see, you're good then. Most people wear watches on their left wrists. It also won't be mandated that everyone must use an iWatch under penalty of death, I imagine.

Hard to imagine the demand for an iWatch. I can't see the usefulness. With that said, I thought I would never use an iPad but now I can't live without mine. I guess we will see....

It's not hard to imagine b/c millions of activity bands have already been sold by Fitbit & Nike. The proof of concept has been proven. Apple can only add more functionality & finesse. It will likely not be as huge a product as the iPhone or even iPad, but the potential for tens of millions is plausible if the price point is right.

Why is everyone trying to make a smartwatch look like a traditional time piece? How about some outside the box thinking?

Well done as you have just demonstrated the problem with the whole watch concept.

It's about fashion.

...

Are you going to to to the Apple store and see one watch?

How's that any different from now? There's only one Fuel Band. Only two Pebbles. There are only three iPhones. There will supposedly be two iWatches.

So people will do what they already do: buy one if they like it, and not buy one if they don't and/or buy something else.

It is ugly and it's massive, looks silly on the wrist.

Yup. I expect much better from Apple.

I agree with John Gruber that Apple rumor sites need to quit posting concept designs/mockups with their stories. This particular article is very vague and makes no mention of what this so-called "iWatch" is supposed to look like. Why is MR throwing up a mockup that maybe nothing like what the actual device (if it even exists) will look like?

Come on. MR has been throwing up the same concepts for weeks or months now. It's all for the views and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
