Being new to Apple and owning iWork 08 does Apple offer an upgrade price?

Yes: the retail price is the upgrade price. As iLife is only licensed to run on Macs, all of which ship with iLife, the only price is the upgrade price.

Oops, wrong thread: I meant iWork, not iLife.

The biggest thing I want to see is better compatibility with Word in Pages. The two things that really annoy me is that tables and hanging indents. I use these two features alot.

Secondly, would be the ability for the text in a cell in a table to continue after a page break. As a minister, when I preach I put the full transcript of the sermon on the left and notes on the right. I have to copy the text into NeoOffice in order to do this.

Finally, it is almost inexcusable that Pages does not have an automatic timed backup. This feature really needs to be added in the next version.

Well, I am big spreadsheet user, and I know Numbers is a new application, but I sincerely hope that Apple is working to make it a top notch spreadsheet, because as cool as it is, it needs some work under the hood.

Even if you said iWork instead it would still be wrong. Macs don't ship with a full copy of iWork like they do iLife, the $79 version is the full version not the upgrade like it is with iLife.

EDIT: Apple should come up with a database program, like the OP said, that organizes all the files you've made with all sorts of tags, as well as files you've downloaded and have been sent.

Labels

The ability to work with labels.

I use labels for all sorts of things, that aren't addresses. I really like creating promotional material with Pages (combining text and images) and love the ability to print these onto labels.

My biggest gripe with iWork08 is the totally useless TOC feature in Pages. It's a real pain to work with cause it actually doesn't work at all, isn't customizable and a complete embarrassment to the whole suite.

So please Apple!!!

A page layout (like in MS Word) for Pages - I like the visual representation of it. Bit more of an enhanced interface.

Aside from Safari, I'm not too keen on very very simple looks. I like simplicity, but the likes of Pages (and iChat in the same sense) lacking borders to make the page layout more visual is a big thing to me.

The TOC feature works fine for me. It seems very easy to customize. Are you sure you know how to use it?

Another criticism I don't understand. What kind of borders? Like the kind you get when you select "show layout." If not, then what?

Best to use a screenshot to show what I'm describing. In Microsoft Word, the page layout makes the actual page centered in the window, where as in Pages it is set to the left.

Also, I like how, in page view, the rulers aren't attached to the actual page in Microsoft Word. I love page view, and I really wish Apple adopt it properly.

Also to add, I wish Pages etc would remember window sizes!

Actually, I like having the rulers right there, next to the page. Makes using them very easy. Did you know that you can "grab" a blue line from either ruler (in 'page layout' mode) and drag and drop it to where you want it - to help line up text and elements. I don't use Word, so don't know if you can do this with it.

Equation editor like office has!!

The main reason that I never use iWork is because there is no easy integration of an equation editor like in Office.

I agree. Making Pages more like Word probably isn't going to seem like an improvement to most of us who actually prefer Pages.

It isn't - it is just an added view they can include called "page layout". Users can switch between the two in MS Word, so they should be able to switch between the two in Pages.

And I believe this topic asks what features I want, so the "most of us" line isn't relevant here.

Here's what I posted for Numbers in an earlier thread on this topic:

* Ability to set global preferences for graphs. Now I have to set the preferences every time I create a graph
* Fix the bug that displays percentages incorrectly in graphs
* Ability to search / replace within a selection (instead of the entire document)
* Trendlines and error bars, and true scatter plots for graphs
* Ability to create a graph from anywhere on a table, instead of requiring header rows/columns
* Ability to change the source data for a graph
