IWork will likely go iPad2 only.

I use iWork almost every single day (for both of my jobs), especially Pages. I am dying for an update.

As nice as it is to have iWork on the iPad, it is not robust enough. Apple needs add full support of everything, such as sections, transitions, and fonts. There is still A LOT lacking in the iOS version.

The Mac version is overdue for an update.

I think part of the issue here is that the iWork apps are a lot to cram in the available RAM. IPad 2 should make a big difference.

The only thing from iWork that I've installed is Numbers. Fortunately I'm not to demanding of my spread sheets, well at least not the ones I need to be portable. There are a few sheets I'd like to use on my iPhone, it would be nice if a variant of Numbers ran there.

In any event Numbers on the iPad is very nice for a first effort!

Great minds think alike.

There probably won't be an iWork '11, just a Pages, Numbers and Keynote on the Mac App Store.
Whatever they do I like Apples new very aggressive pricing. Right now I hardly use anything but Numbers on my Mac so the unbundled approach works fine for me.
I like Numbers as Numbers, don't want an Excel clone, but keep the rough Import/Export capabilities.
Frankly I think Apple could do far better with Numbers if they where to not focus so much on direct Excel compatibility.

This is the one I want - and yes, static.

At least I'm not the only one that sees value in this. It should be fairly straight forward to add as in many cases all you really want is the HTML code for a table to cut and paste into your web page.

Come to think of it a CSV editing mode would be nice to. Again this seems like it is already there but I think more could be done.

I think this is just related to the Mac App Store. They want to show the apparently 'good' example.

64bit

although not needed it would be nice to have them 64bit.

Also some better spell checking support.

I certainly look forward to an updated version of Pages and Keynote to use on my new Mac. A revamp of MobileMe would be welcome too - aside from the rumoured "music locker" what more could they offer?

Also, realistically, will MobileMe ever actually be free?

I mean, that huge new data centre will cost money to run and was obviously a big investment for Apple. Seems a little crazy from a business perspective to spend all that money to offer improved services, and then stop charging for it..? Where's the benefit or opportunity for improved revenue for Apple? How would the service cope with the potential millions of new users who would be able to use it for free?

..it just doesn't sound right to me.

Don't get me wrong though, I'd gladly pocket my £59 a year if that's what Apple decide to do.! :D

I think they will keep pricing teh same and just add a lot of stuff to it. people used to paying for it wont mind, those that want it free will see the added features and figure why not buy. There might be a free version that is small and under-featured that will get people to easily step up.

Sounds about right.

IT HAD BETTER NOT!!

I have iWork 08 and bought iPad 1 on the day of release. Been putting off upgrading to iWork 09 for fear of it being upgraded to a new version a couple of weeks later.

As a result, I have never been able to open iWork docs on my iPad. If the new version means it's still not compatible with my iPad I'll be incredibly pissed off.

Lion

I don't want to wait this long, but maybe the thinking that the upgrades will come with Lion could be true.

With the focus Apple seems to be putting on the "behind the scenes" of file saving in 10.7, it would makes sense to have the MobileMe and iWork updates debut alongside it.

Imagine a dropbox type syncing, that happens automatically without the need to save a file manually. The file could be saved online and locally and synced back to all computers that use the file. The one thing apple would need to fix that dropbox doesn't do (aside from making it more seamless) is the ability for multiple users to share and collaborate at the same time and make the file save properly.

If anybody can do it, it's the team at apple.

Basic service will be free...

If my renewal date was coming up, I'd renew and maintain my service, under the assumption that Apple knows what an outcry there'd be if they dropped the paid service and kept people's money, paid in advance, for a service that's now provided free.

I don't think Apple will give up their MobileMe income and provide all of their cloud services for free. I'm guessing the money we've paid for current subscriptions will be rolled into their new paid cloud service, even if there's a lesser free version.

Mine just renewed a week or so ago.. I'm guessing that some basic services will be free... but there will be premium services that won't be... and those of us that have already renewed will get the premium services... but if we don't want them, they will refund a prorated amount back (or give us some sort of iTunes/App Store credit).... at least that is what I would expect from a for profit business...

All Apple software will be AppStore ONLY, this is just Apple discontinuing retail products. Apple would rather you get used to using the App Store by downloading iWork or whatever when your Mac arrives than pre-install software for you.

Apple are currently doing everything possible to encourage as many people as possible to use the App Store. Notice for example that the New Final Cut Pro only mentions availability in the App Store, no mention of retail copies being available.

Dude you need to lay off the crack pipe. Apple isn't going to force everyone into downloading ALL Apple software. You want to try and download something like Final Cut Pro? You'll be an old man by the time it downloads

I dunno about the rest of you, but I think 'me.com' is one hell of a web domain for a kick ass social network that could rival the big guys. Think about it - Apple already has millions of users on their Macs/iOS devices. What if me.com became a free social network for all mac users, with paid accounts if you want an @me.com email address and the other features.

Building a social network into the OS is clearly the next big step for either Apple or Microsoft - let's face it, we shouldn't need to load a web browser only to run an application (facebook IS an application, not a web site). The intercations and connectivity between users should be OS level and Apple already has a lot of the groundwork done with Mobile Me. They just need to make it even more transparent.

A big-ass social network would make good use of their huge data center!

NO NO NO! I've read this same idea before and I hate it. Fix/upgrade what you have before you implement new features. I don't care if it comes later, but Apple better make sure MobileMe is vastly improved before they try their hands at social networking - assuming they learned their lesson from Ping.

I had two days to go before my MM renewed. It activated the renewal code I had entered, a month or so ago, today. It credited me the two days. So we're even here, and I don't expect Apple to give up a revenue stream like MM.
If my renewal date was close, I'd spring for buying another years' worth.

some people don't need or want "social" in everything.

just get the basic MoMe right.

Final Cut Pro X will be on the App store.

hopefully a new iDisk feature in MobileMe will be like Dropbox. Or Apple should just buy Dropbox and call it the new iDisk. :D

+1 on Dropbox

In fact, let apple improve something else - syncing wirelessly. Dropbox is near perfect as is.
