I've run 6C115 on a G3 400 (256MB/ATA33), and it made that machine feel faster than my G4 733 (1.5GB/ATA133 RAID 1).

I ordered my copy of Jaguar on July 31st, but my credit card still hasn't been billed?? It may be because I ordered it using the educators discount or that they don't charge me until it ships. Who knows?? Has anyone else had this same problem?

Draft

p.s. On a completely unrelated note, Phish is back together! WOOOOW!!

I don't think Apple charges your credit card until it ships. I pre-ordered Warcraft 3 about 3 weeks before it was to be released and my credit card was not charged until it was shipped.

I also have preordered Jaguar and my credit card has yet to be charged (also with education discount).

I guess that it is so that if people decide they don't want to get the product after all, Apple doesn't have to go to the credit card company and cancel the charge. They just have to delete your order.

that would be quite difficult, what happens when Mr Doe orders before Mrs. B? do they sit around and wait to see if a Mr Cheese will order before they ship out on D's?

you do know he was joking, dont you  ;)

Get a newer build, the boot screen is different, thank god.

Previous reports indicated that current Macs (iMacs, iBooks) along with new PowerMacs are shipping with Jaguar.

According to ThinkSecret - Jaguar, itself, is shipping.

According to emails sent from the online Apple store, the company has begun shipping some copies as of yesterday.

i highly doubt this..

i can believe that apple is shipping jaguar to their resellers..

Think he ment the CD's that are being included with the current shipping macs which have 10.1.5 installed and Jaguar discs thrown in, Apple in the past has only included upgrade cd's, not the full install versions.

So to any lucky person out there...are the jaguar cd's full version, or updaters, I suspect full versions in this case :)

Jaguar 10.2 Install Question

When I installed 10.1.5 to my existing 10.1.4 I just downloaded it and it ran automatically off of the apple website. When I am installing Jaguar 10.2 into my system, will I want to do a clean install, or an upgrade install? Just checking, because when I did an upgrade on OS 8 to OS 8.6 on my old powermac 8500, I think I did it incorrectly, so I want to make sure I don't lose any data when I install my Jagwire (on August 24th) on my new powerbook G4 (still pissed that I have have to pay the full price considering I bought the thing only 2 1/2 months ago).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Either one should be fine, but to be safest, I would recommend a "clean" install.

Backup your documents, and format your hard drive for a sparkling clean 10.2 install. It should give you better performance than an upgrade.

You lost data on your 8500 because 8.5 was a stand alone version, seperate from OS 8. Therefore, you can't update to 8.6 unless you have 8.5. (There was no 8.2, 8.3, and 8.4)

But as long as you have a recent version of OS X 10.1, 10.2 should install just fine.

Have a nice day! :D

iApps?

For those of you that have OS X v10.2, I was wondering if the iApps like iCal and iSync are included. Apple's site says there not coming cout until Sept, but that is typically not reliable data.

that is most companies' policy...

for instance, what if you ordered a new dp 1.25... it would suck to have it charged before you were even close to getting it.. unless you wanted it that way so you could pay it off before you got it, then say "well, now i can spend some money on those dual 23" displays"...

ha i wish

It does have its benefits. At least we dont have to go all through the updates (orginal OSX --> OSX.1 -->OSX.2). That would take a while to do.

ironic, dontcha think?

However, they did say that my iPod case and wired remote/ear buds would be shipping today!!!!!

Funny... I got an email this morning saying that my iPod head phones and remote were delayed, but mentioned nothing of my copy of Jaguar. I ordered on the 17th, right after Macworld.

That is funny. After they told me my ear phone/remote and case were shipping, I too got an email today saying they were delayed. Guess you really can't trust what the reps say....oh well. Looks like the 24th for Jag and who knows for the other peices.

Came with my powerbook

Received a powerbook g4 today and upgrade shipped with it. I had to install it myself.

Partially Shipped

I just checked my order at the Apple Store and it said that it was partially shipped. There is only one item, does this mean it has been shipped or is Apple just playing with me.

iAryeh, same thing happened to me. I also got an email saying they charged my credit card for the shipping. (Although my credit card hasn't been charged.) I'm getting this bad feeling I'm going to get an empty box in the mail :) I'll have to call apple on monday if this doesn't start making sense.

Same here - my wife just got a "partial shipment" notice for the two copies of Jaguar that we've ordered. It appears that they've charged for the overnight shipping, but that the copies of Jaguar haven't actually shipped.

How do you ship an abstract concept like overnight shipping? Is this some sort of zen thing?

I really hope Monday (or a post from someone who is willing to wait out Apple's lengthy phone queue) gives more insight into what's going on.

I'm secretly hoping it's something like "we've charged that part because it's in a trailer awaiting pickup by Fedex (since Apple pack their own trailers, I believe) so we've charged the shipping, but we won't actually charge for the software until the Fedex truck takes the trailer away on Monday"

Alternatively, since the official line is that Jaguar doesn't ship until the 24th, maybe they *are* shipping them out, but won't actually charge for the software part until the 24th (since you couldn't have a copy before that date, because it doesn't ship until then, so any box and CD you may possess is doubtless a figment of your imagination). If it's this, I wish they'd at least give us a tracking number for my figment.

There is a thread over at macnn about this.

Looks like sombody called apple and were told that this means "It's in the process of being shipped. "

I've just cancelled mine!

I just rang the AppleStore and cancelled my order. As I'm getting a new iBook anyway, I'll have a copy soon enough (though Apple UK said 10.2 wouldn't be included with the iBook), but I'm waiting until they announce the "family pricing", as I've got several machines and it sounds like a much better deal. I only hope that buying a new Mac gives you a discount on the OS.

So my guess about "in the trailer but not yet picked up" was pretty close. Seems several people on MacNN called in and got similar answers.

:D :D :D :D

I guess I know what I'll be doing on Tuesday (or maybe Wednesday - there was some uncertainty about whether all orders would get picked up on Monday or not).

This is all assuming the new Firewire enclosure I ordered from Granite arrives in time so I can move my data around before the install. "Orders before 5pm PT ship same day" my ass.

I know it's a bit late, but

Wouldn't those of you with more than one Mac prefer to wait till Apple confirms the $199 5-licence package, which they're supposed to do by the 24th anyway? I've written to them for confirmation, but of course I have heard nothing. I'd rather be legal on four machines for $199 than on one for $129.

If I was having to pay full price, yes. However, my wife's a local government employee and thus qualifies for the Government EPP pricing, which is $64.50 a copy. Since we have just two machines, it's about the same cost as a single license. Maybe there'll be Government EPP pricing for the 5-licence package too, but I'm willing to pay a little extra to get it sooner :D
