If its a 3G it will automatically do 4.2.1 because that is the most current software for that phone.

I've had more success with IREB doing a 4.1 restore however..

Go to http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

Click the drop down for iPhone/iPod touch/iPad.
Find iPhone 3G (4.1/8b117).
Download that and let me know when it's finished. ( it could take a little bit depending on your Internet connection)

Ok pretty much the same deal again, except instead of just clicking restore in iTunes, hold down the shift button and click restore, find the software you just downloaded. It'll be something like iPhone1,4.1..

You should get the 1015 error again, once you do close iTunes and do the IREB recovery loop fixer again. Try it a few times if it doesn't work right away.

I do all that but then cant find the file I just downloaded - so copied the link and its froze..... grrrrr! Done this twice now! Will reboot and start again!

Sorry I should have to you to save it to your desktop or somewhere easily accessible.

Its ok I figured it out - did an itunes restore - got the error code again - and doing the other bit.

----------

OK - have now got the slide at the bottom - am very excited!

But what now?

But what now?

You are at the activation screen. You have 2 options.

1. Activate with Original carrier sim (inactive/old sim is okay)
2. Hactivate it with redsn0w.

Both of the method above will allow you to by pass activation/emergency screen.

Sorry to be thick - but if I put the sim in - will it just go back to normal? What will happen with the red thing?

Ok put the sim in and slid the arrow (you do not know how tense I am right now - lol)

It Bought back the usb - itunes pic and emergency only calls?

Should I launch iTunes now?

You said you don't want it jail broken so I once you activate with iTunes and the sim card it will go to the home screen. It will be like a factory restored phone.

Redsn0w? What would happen if I had taken this option?

Ok its syncing - now for some house keeping questions:

Is it still jailbroken?

Will it work as normal now?

Should I ever sync it again?

Should I uninstall the software?

I see - I owe you massively! Thank you so much!

If you take that option, your phone will be jailbroken. Since you are activating it with original sim, it resets to factory setting now.

1. No, it is not jailbroken.
2. Not sure if your phone has Ipad baseband. Look at the modem firmware on the phone by going to Setting/general/about and look all the way to the bottom to see if it has 06.15.
3. You can sync whatever you want.
4. What software do you want to uninstall?

Do me a favor go to the settings app>general>about and check the modem firmware and tell me what it is.

Ok but its still syncing -

I mean can I uninstall the software I downloaded on to my PC?

I will check as soon as the sync is finished.

I would not try to update it or restore it again or you will end up where you started and have to go through all this again.

Ok - again a massive massive thank you!

If you lived in the UK I would buy you a few drinks & give you a big kiss! lol

So just syncing? No restoring etc? So when I plug it in to iTunes I just do this normally?
