nailed it. See a bunch of very salty people disagreed with your post. Truth hurts.
10 years ago people used jail breaking to pirate but it is in no way the same as back then, it’s way harder now than it used to be and as others have said you don’t need to actually jailbreak to do it

Exactly, it’s really not that hard to pirate stuff without a jailbreak. People claiming it’s there primarily for piracy either haven’t kept up with the industry since 2010 or are just defending apple because… yknow, corporate brand loyalty is a hell of a drug

I remember I used to jailbreak my iPhone 3GS and 4S, back then I used to really enjoy the cool additions I could add to my phone like a Notification Center. Now it just feels pointless, iOS has matured to the point where it's pretty much perfect for me.

If only Apple would allow me to enable portrait lock but not have it affect videos.

Still amusing the entitlement that suggests because you bought a device that you can do what you want with it essentially.

You don’t own the OS or the software on the device, you never have, you licence it from the creator. This is the same for pretty much every OS out there, and any physical media (like Bluray or CDs) you buy.

iOS is a big reason why iPhones are popular, I would say more so than the hardware.

just because you're ok being swindled by a corporation doesn't mean the rest of us like to take it in the chin. if you're perfectly ok with the fact you don't own something you spent 1000+ dollars on then you do you

It's worse than that. With Apps using AI, which contain valuable ML models that can be lifted and stolen, this hampers innovation. I was working on an iOS App last year for a company which wanted to move it's AI from the cloud to on-device. In the end they decided it was too risky as even iOS can't secure their IP.
At Apple WWDC last year Apple introduced some measure to try to combat this but it only works, and encrypts, with models that use Apple's ML lib exclusively. Even then it stlll isn't 100% certain it is secure. Not with this software in the wild now.
Unless a platform like iOS, or MacOS, can offer an un-jailbreakable environment our devices will always need to be tethered to the cloud for advanced applications that use AI.
“un-jailbreakable” is impossible even if it is outlawed. Rendering it illegal does help general public not digging into jailbreak without proper expertise tho. Besides, our device has other reasons that will never be cut off from internet completely, unlike a computer from 1970s (commodore 64). However, moving everything into the cloud will create even more prominent targets for hackers from criminal organisations and hostile foreign countries to hack and destroy. We are mostly just picking the poison right now.

I’d say I hate corporate brand loyalty much much more than jailbreak for software piracy. But that’s a whole new discussion for another day.

And I hope you understand that as someone who creates software to feed and house my family, it's my choice to think poorly of software piracy, which is the main reason people jailbreak (though I'm certainly not saying everyone's reason, or yours).

you realize without early jailbreaking there wouldnt be quite the market there is for iOS apps today, right? At release of the first jailbreaks and stores like Installer.app and Cydia there was no app store and Apple was still mulling whether to allow native apps at all or just web ones. You literally owe affording your house and food to jailbreakers. And I say this as a fellow dev.

It's always the same story - once a new iOS version gets released, there are articles and tweets about how it's much harder now to crack into the new OS and make a Jailbreak, meanwhile a few months later - a huge JB gets released supporting the most recent iPhones.
maybe the same story,but it's a NeverEnding story...ha

I knew I should've upgraded to 14.3 RC2 when it was still signed.

I have my 14.1 blobs saved, but no clue how to install 14.1.

That's a bit of a stretch. iPhone wasn't the first to get an app marketplace, it was inevitably coming jailbreak or not.

I'm a big supporter of jailbreaking but hyperboles won't help get our point across

I'm on a contract with a 3rd party service provider that uses the Softbank network/SIM. Even though I'm paying for data, Softbank disables the ability to switch on the HotSpot feature because I'm going through a 3rd party and a contract free plan. I like to be able to tether my MBP so I can work on the train or at cafes where there is no WiFi etc.

Japanese telecoms suck.

I have an iPhone 6 sitting here that would be a useful ipod to listen to while biking or fishing. Unfortunately Apple "upgraded" it to a so-slow-it's-useless OS before EOL'ing it and rendering it a paperweight. It's been many moons since I JB'd anything, but I remember them getting pretty creative with the utility tweaks back then. If theres a way to excise some of the bloat that's choking it to death from its startup routine it'd be a godsend, breathing life into these old devices Apple's tried to kill off.

Trying to equate JBing with app piracy is the pinnacle of stupidity. You wouldn't even have an app store if it weren't for JBers hacking in and creating one first to prove it was a good idea.

I love these hackers🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tech goliathes hire the best in the world security scientists to build software then some rando anonymous guys online post a security breach. I don't know how they do it. I don't use Jailbreak but I appreciate the effort of the hackers to keep tech companies on their toes security wise.

Those who use Jailbreak, how do you get your software and what will you do with new iOS releases? I am sure Apple won't let you sign into Apple store with JB'ed OS.

Double tap to lock anywhere on Home Screen somehow better than double tap at the back of the phone to lock . ***And auto scroll ***** Apple are you listening ????
