I'm not really interested in the effects or eye candy or whatever, what would get me to watch this film is a good story. But from what I've seen in the trailers it's a film about someone dressing up like an alien and meeting an alien girl (or did I dream this?). Doesn't sound like my cup of tea .

Maybe you should watch the trailers again because there's a lot more to it than that. Though maybe our cups of tea are very different.

Despite the fact that the Navi look like someone cribbed the design from a little perverts deviant art account, I am interested in it and will definitely see it in the Cinema. I think its worth seeing it in an IMAX rather than the crappy 3D retrofit my local cinema has just got.

James Cameron intended this film for 3d and the screening months ago showed that the 3d in avatar is not a gimmick! The second trailer is just great. The plot is simple and it looks great!

Thanks to the latest three minute trailer, they've managed to give away the entire plot of the movie! But I will still see it in the theatres in 3D! :D

I remember fifteen years ago James Cameron was experimenting on cutting edge 3D work trying to create realistic human actors. There was a scene of a digital human sitting on a chair in an empty room.

In early cuts of Avatar, it would appear his team have managed to jump over the uncanny valley and given the Na'vi characters 'real' emotion and expressions. Quite an achievement. This would be critical for the love story in the film and whether audiences will connect with the main characters.

I think this film will be huge, and judging by the promotion for it it has a strong storyline and solid plot. :)

What draws me into this movie is the concept and the role reversal of humans being the "invaders". Story/plot-wise I'm not expecting so much, i.e. the differences between Terminator 1 and 2.

I don't think that's surprising at all. Look at the disregard we show for other species on our own planet. Humans are jerks.

I just have to laugh at how preposterous your statement is. You wouldn't be where you are not if it were not for humans "invading" other species in order to provide the computer you type on, the clothes you wear, the food you eat and the materials needed to shelter you from the elements.

Maybe when you are jerking around in the woods naked and hungry, you can spout generalities.

Armchair morality is funny at best, insidiously harmful at worst. :)

Avatar will be the best movie of 2009.

you don't have to wait for that. go watch Planet 51 :D
I saw it with my son and was better than I expected.

but i agree that avatar should be great.

I have to laugh at what a needlessly hostile (and senseless) post you've just made to someone you don't even know. Armchair cantankerousness?

I apologise if my reply seemed surly. It's just that I am hostile to BS whenever I see it. :) No hard feelings?

I saw a trailer the other day and thought it looked totally lame. Story wise and visually.
It just seems to be a vehicle for James Cameron to show how clever he thinks he is...

Whoa! Jeez, that was a bit much. Relax. Take a deep breath.

Oh- and jerking in the woods is fun. :D

You think you're hostile to BS? Oh- you have no idea. Stick around. ;)

OooOOOOoooOOOooooooh, sarky!

I have no idea what has your knickers so firmly in a twist and why you've decided to take it out on me/my light-hearted post but if you're so stubbornly anthropocentric then I suppose my comment would interpret like BS to you. I certainly have no hard feelings over some lukewarm snide posts written under an anonymous name. So, by all means, be as hostile as you please. I hope your petty swipes have made you feel real big and clever but you should know, it doesn't look that way. Enjoy your day, love.

Moving on...

It looks like the release date for Avatar in the UK is 18 December, according to imdb. Totally looking forward to it. I am not always so thrilled about seeing movies in the cinema but I'm excited about this one.

Wow, a whole movie about a MacRumors members quest to get an avatar. What next? :p

lol pt.1
James Cameron can just wait until he's reached 500 posts like the rest of us have to.
...

lol pt.2

other than the CGI end, I'm not seeing the big deal about this.

South Park did a great spoof of this and Glenn Beck*/Sarah Palin

*Rush Limbaugh's inbred bastard son...?

This look like it is going to be a very cool movie, could possible be the next dare I say it....Star Wars type of experience. :)
