Very doable and easy

Is this a different challenge from the 'ring in the new year challenge?' My watch just notified me of this one and the goal is a bit different from the one a couple of days ago. The New Year one was 7 times closing all three rings, and I got that notification on Dec 31. Certainly it didn't expire since it was literally one day before the New Year?

Either way the new notificaiton has upped the ante, to now closing all three rings 23 times.

yes, the "ring in the new year challenge" is a "limited edition challenge". There is a monthly challenge every months ... browse thru this forum for December, activity challenge, November etc
Welcome to the Apple Watch :)

How could it have expired then? I got the notification for the new year challenge literally one day before the new year, and it was to close all three rings for 7 days in a row! I didn't have 7 days!

It was an alert of an upcoming challenge that started 1/1/20. So you have to close all your rings for 7 days straight anytime during the month of Jan.

open the Activity app on your phone, under Awards (bottom) you will find you January challenge under "Go for it" and the new year one under "limited edition", both will be gray'ed out, so you have 2 challenges at the same time ...

oh ok. I was worried since they both had a similar looking badge in the greyed out view when popping up on the watch. Figured I somehow missed out on the New Year one even though I received it on Dec 31

I have the 7 day competition against a friend. Too bad I don't have friends (with Apple Watches). 😭

Mine is to burn 33,200 calories for January. It might be tough for me, 1,070 calories a day. Winter climate where I live.
Wow. To think I was complaining about 745 calories a day. I am also in a winter climate. Hit 770 on the 1st, but only 648 yesterday. Not looking good.

Mine is to burn 1,310 a day. Me and the treadmill are going to be best friends.
If I had to burn most of mine on the treadmill...ugh. The thought is depressing. I have a treadmill, but I prefer not to use it. I do use my rowing machine now, but those are shorter secondary workouts. I don't mind the ~20 minutes/5000m so much. If I were rowing for 10 hours per week, I'd probably find that mind-numbing too.

I sure hope mine don't go to some unrealistic 'superman' style goal I've seen a few post here. I barely have the ability to go outside to walk in the Winter, although that's slowly changing since I've recently become a 'ring-a-holic'. Can't stop the urge to close 'em all.

Are the goals actually based on your body type (BMI, weight, x burned in y days over time, age, gender, etc) or are they just simple challenges? I feel the 'smart' goal of '380' to burn every day is tough but I'm a tiny thin little man as it is. Any goals involving 1,000+ I will have to give up sleep.

They are personalized based on your actual recent activity levels. Mine seem to reflect a slight increase over my prior three-month average.

As an example, if you keep your Move goal modest and double it almost every day, you might get a challenge to double your Move goal 30 or 31 days. I keep my Move goal at 1,000 and only double it a handful of times a month, so if I got that goal it might only ask me to double my Move goal 5 or 6 times. But since I got the calorie goal this month, it wants me to burn 43,700, an average of 1410 per day. (My average the last 3 months was 1409, 1311, and 1467.)

I run (mostly) and row (as a supplement). So my exercise is fairly time efficient. The Apple Watch credits me for about 100-110 calories per mile run. The ErgData app for my rowing machine credits me for 300-315 calories/5000m rowed (19-21 minutes). A larger person would have higher numbers burned, at least for running. A smaller person would have lower numbers. For reference, I'm 5'11"/161# (180cm/73kg) as of today.

Oh no doubt, but I love music and podcasts, so I’m plenty entertained lol.

Specifically, I am worried that Apple didn't code the appearances of the 2020 badges into iOS 12 (which I still use for jailbreak reasons), so... no more shiny monthly badges?? If so, this is a dick move towards iPhone 6 and 5S users, or people who uses iOS 12/WatchOS 5 for stability reasons.
My wife had the full badge, but had also upgraded. I went ahead, installed 13.3 on my phone and 6.1.1 on my watch and the badge is complete. I also got the regular monthly badges and the additional awards for 1000, 1250, etc goals.

The update took about 3 hours and originally was missing 3/4 of my completed months. Those slowly re-added over the next day. I was unhappy until they did.

Winter Climate residents - UNITE!! We can do this!!!

I have the calorie goal this month, and mine calls for 27,800 which, at the beginning started at 897 per day. I have exceeded it on 3 of the first 4 days, and my current average needed has dropped to 874 per day.

We can do hard things!! Don’t just write it off cause you think it appears unachievable on the surface. Give it your best effort. Even if you don’t earn your award, you might still achieve positive healthy results by trying!!

PS - I’m a winter climate resident myself. Lived pretty much my whole life here in Alaska. Current temp as I write this is -9F at 6:08 pm. It hasn’t been above zero for 3 days and isn’t supposed to until Tuesday or Wednesday.

There's no chance in hades I could double the move goal even if I tried. It's the hardest ring to close for me. It's usually dead last around 10PM that I finally get notified it closed it.

Alaska definitely presents a whole different level of challenge when it comes to winter fitness than Ohio, especially southern Ohio, where we've had a mild winter so far!

Those of us in milder climes salute you!

I've always wanted to give snowshoe running a try, but we don't consistently get enough snow to justify investing in the equipment. XC skiing, too.

Given my watch's broken workout detection (having to start a walk manually after I've waited 13 minutes hoping it'd detect, and losing that first mile and having to walk three miles to get the two miles to record sucks) I bet it's going to make some impossible goal because I have to double my activity to get the data I want to record.

Dude, no offense, but it mystifies me that you don't return this buggy watch and get a new one. It's almost masochistic you hanging on to it.
