I Gather it’s not really an Apples fashion right now, but I’d really like to see a round design more than anything. (And yes, I understand a square design displays information accordingly over a round design.)

The Series 4 Apple Watch really is the most refined Apple Watch of all the models, the speed has improved greatly, the customization has expanded, health features have grown exponentially, etc, but I really want to see Apple diversify by adding a round design more than anything. I think that would really help to change the watch to be more accustomed to fit others personalities that don’t just want a square design.

The only product I found to be interesting so far. But I really hope they bring in larger size Apple Watch similar to iPhone lineups. Current 44mm is still too small for my hand, 50/55mm would be great.

Maybe an uniform display lighting while displaying grayish colors?

his is the one problem I have with my watch whenever the display is not at full brightness. I got used to it but there are lots of things I would like to see improve of the watch.

This frustrates me too, I have the lighting issue on the right of my screen. I have AC+ so will probably request an Express Replacement in about 4 months or so.

It only manifests itself when the display is dim. I would be more than happy if there was an auto-brightness toggle which stopped the watch displaying a dimly lit screen even if you have the brightness slider on full. If I have it set to full brightness, I want it on full brightness! Don't think you know best!

Why aren’t they moving to MicroLED? That was rumored a couple generations ago.

Micro LED is not ready yet. No other manufactures are really using micro LED either for their smart phones or smart watches for that matter. The technology is coming, but I would expect at least another 2/3 years when it’s ready. But, when it is ready, it will have its clear advantages with a higher brightness, improved color gamut, higher resolution, etc.

As the demand for OLED displays keep rising, we will see more and more OLED manufacturers. The days of Samsung's monopoly are over.
More OLED manufacturers really doesn't mean anything if they can't build panels to the specs and volumes required by Apple. Even with Apple's help, LG still can't do it, and if this rumor is true they (LG) are even losing some of their Apple Watch OLED to Japan Display. JD is probably getting some AW displays to test if their processes are even viable at larger scale. Meanwhile, Samsung is still improving it's OLED quality and capacity while working on next gen mLED.

It's unlikely that they will be able to shrink microLED pixels to the size necessary for smartwatches, phones and tablets anytime soon. microLED panels are only good for displays that are watched from far viewing distances (TVs and such, where high PPI does not matter).

Maybe they will do it one day, but not soon. OLED will be the dominant technology for years to come.

Looks like it’s time for the investor relations/PR department to “leak” another microLED story or two. It’s so revolutionary, so amazing, so unashamedly thin, it will be renamed :apple:LED!

Nice to see Apple guiding another vendor into the supply chain for this. Have a 3 and am looking forward to upgrading to the 5.

I'm trying to imagine what features it would take for me to upgrade my S4.

Yeah, I recently upgraded from a Series 2 to the Series 4 with cellular and its like a completely different product in term of speed and functionality. I love the Series 4 so much more than I ever did the Series 2.

Not really sure why your commentary took a turn towards mLED. I do agree that OLED will be the dominant tech for years to come. The dominant player in the market is still improving it (exactly what I said in the previous comment). LG can't seem to do small panel OLED right and at capacity. Japan Display is still testing the waters. No one even knows if their OLED will be any good. So not really sure where you see Samsung's dominance waning. Apple probably desperately wants a viable second supplier for OLED panels, but I'm pretty sure they aren't going to compromise quality on iPhones just to get one. They can afford to mix supplier panels on laptops cuz the don't sell that many. iPhones are the bread and butter.

Whose the current supplier of OLED for the watch?
LG if I'm not mistaken

Because you mentioned it first.
Out of that entire paragraph of words discussing your opinion of OLED, this: "Meanwhile, Samsung is still improving it's OLED quality and capacity while working on next gen mLED." is what you focused on? Heck, that sentence isn't even about mLED. mLED is literally mentioned as an aside. Okay I guess. To be clear, the focus was OLED.

Well if its less the half, the move to OED in Apple watch sounds good\

"Other rumors suggest a future version of the Apple Watch will adopt solid state buttons that don't physically click but instead provide haptic feedback to users"

I already worry the move to soft-touch buttons on something on a wrist worn, or portable device you can knock very easily... But that's just me.
the watch has always had OLED
