Samsung never advertises their Face unluck feature as the secure unlock feature,it’s just there for basic protection..they give people option and don’t just shove whatever they think is best to consumets like Apple..
Samsung’s ultra sonic under display is the best under display FP technology, whether you like it or not,it’s the first generation and can only improve, that’s something Apple tried to make and failed just like Airpower.

If you think Samsung’s tech is crap, then I’m sorry but Apple will borrow and implement all of them one by one year after year but slowly for you lol
Reverse charging,OLED,large screen phones, etc etc all been criticised by fanboys like you when Apple didn’t do them.yet now Apple is catching up using them all themsey many years later!

I think you’re lost.

If they were the ones responsible for the Apple Watch Series 4’s display then that’s horrible because a lot of the Apple Watches had terrible ‘backlight bleeding’ or uneven lighting with the OLED.

Camera is understandable. RAM is not. The XS models need the extra 1GB of RAM to power the extra pixels and zoom lens. Other than the zoom lens, OLED display, there’s basically nothing different in meaningful specs.
RAM is future proofing, I keep my phone a couple of years.

I would agree if the phones had the same hardware, but the extra RAM in the XS isn’t free. It needs the extra GB for the extra pixels of the OLED display plus the zoom lens. Since the XR has neither, 3GB is more than enough for a couple years.

How much more does the higher display resolution really need?

The frame buffer itself only jumps from about 4.5MB to about 8.2MB. Even if you multiply that by 100, you only go from 450MB to 820MB. And the 450MB must already be part of the 3GB of the XR, so you are using 370MB of the additional 1GB for the higher resolution on the XS.

Of course then there's the camera, but that's not always in use. And can we quantify its RAM usage in any way?

Actually OLED is patented by LG. Samsung is the makers of AMOLED. Which is a much brighter version, but with lower viewable angles. In order to make OLED panels, you would have to go through LG first.
Uhhh no.
Kodak invented and patented it. Universal Display Corp. Now owns all the primary and some advanced OLED patents. (3,000+)

LG owns some patents as well as Samsung, and a few other companies, but UDC has the key ones required to make an OLED panel.
Every device using an OLED panel had to get a license from UDC.

The S4 seemed like such a big upgrade that it's hard to imagine anything comparable for a while.

Native sleep tracking.
Although it’s doable on current S4, my guess it’s S5 where Apple can tout this as a feature not possible with older AW’s.

I really hope so. I switched from my beloved AW2 to an AW4. It wasn’t an upgrade, was an expensive downgrade. The quality screen is really bad (uneven, blue/greenish tint). You don’t see watchfaces, you only see a faulty screen. So disappointed

When I look at my S4 I see watch faces, but I’m rather seriously red/green color blind so I’m not really qualified to evaluate this problem.

I finally settled on Auto Sleep after trying several other apps. I’m not sure what Apple could do to make a native sleep app better.

Maybe so. I let my Apple Watch charge overnight (in part because I like the way nightstand mode works), so I tend to ignore sleep tracking features. I realize they are of use to some.

I also let my S3 watch charge overnight. For sleep tracking, I use my old S0 watch. I swap them around at night, and again in the morning.
