[1] Advantages of MagSafe: Stops laptop from falling off table
[4] Disadvantages of MagSafe: Expensive, one piece chargers. Proprietary. Prone to breaking. Laptop dependent on single MS port.

[6] Advantages of USB-C Connector: 100W+, Much Cheaper to Replace Charger / Cable separately, Aftermarket Chargers an option, Charge from mobile battery packs. If one port fails, other 3 on MBP to use. Share chargers with Windows friends chargers.
[1] Disadvantages of UBC-C: Tripping on cable can make laptop fall.

That's how a lot of us see it.

Mag safe was really a "genius" move by Apple, USB C's complexity precludes Mag safe as we knew it, equally Apple should have been capable of designing a "breakaway" charging only cable, maybe Apple will in time, no doubt with a ripe margin, and yet another additional purchase ;)

The bigger concern is the power limit as this absolutely "slams the door firmly" for those hoping for anything more than a mediocre dGPU for the MBP, given Apple's use of the 45W CPU, with 100W simply not being adequate.

I rather feel despite all the bravado, Apple was ill prepared for USB C; no desktop docking solution, no alternative to MagSafe, totally missing the mark with many customers and coming across very much as take it or leave it. All with a mixed message across multiple product lines.

Seems USB C is the great panacea for the rMB & MBP, however financially inconvenient for IOS devices, and imagine a "Pro" levelled iMac with USB A, who would purchase such antiquated technology :p Reality USB C allows Apple to produce thinner for "the sake of it" notebooks that are designed to impress first and foremost at the cost of usability & performance, and simplify it's contractor's production processes...

I, too, can't help but think it's funny that the magsafe connector from Apple machines were copied and imitated endlessly (and in most cases, poorly) by many other pc manufactures for their flag ship product. Then Apple just dropped this iconic feature itself... certainly a surprise move in the industry.

Except MS who upped the Anti and it's also a I/O cable for their docking solution :D

I've had two magsafe units that failed. One was the connection to the unit - it just wore out. Both were magsafe 1s, the reliable ones evidently.

The new charge cable is just so convenient for me. I bought an infra red camera for the iPhone, and I could leave its charger in the box and charge it with my wife's computer charge cable (an HP C+ or Firewire 3 charger). Hey I can charge the Apple with that cable, or now - charge the camera with the Apple charge cable instead.

I just saved the bulk of having to carry three chargers with us, down to just one charger. The charger is a win for me now, I notice too I using the cable on the right side of the new 15" - I've had to always use the front left side. Next year, proprietor chargers will be very unpopular IMO. Who wants a drawer of chargers when "one will rule them all".

It's good that finally Apple have moved forward on their chargers as I for one have had to replace 5 of them over the years.

However they could of done what other good OEM's have and included a secondary port on their chargers which not only allows a single brick to be carried but also simultaneous charging of 2 devices and greater flexibility/options with or without a propriety cable
