Any idea how long it takes for them to ship this? I ordered one today and really hope it doesn't take a week or two.

No idea. Retailers were not even supposed to start selling the Jawbone UP until today, Nov. 6. Some Apple Stores went ahead and sold them anyway though.

Edit: It appears it'll ship soon because it's no longer mentioned as backordered on my ATT order status page.

My boyfriend got one yesterday and really wanted to like it, too--but he has most of the same complaints. Lots of button-pushing required to tell it when you're doing certain things, inconvenient since it's not wireless, and feels awkward on your wrist.

He offered it to me, but I think I'll pass. :)

really? theres two different button combos...
press&hold and then double press&hold

i'm sure your vibrator has more buttons, and I don't hear you complaining.

Why no BT4?

I really think they missed an opportunity to be the first product using the new low-power (optimized) BT standard. If you've got to take the device off to sync it, why not take it off less often to charge it, knowing that the data is sync'd up with your iphone?

So after a lot of reading I have decide to try the Fitbit ultra.

I liked the wristband format and the vibrate alarm on the Up, but I like the fitbit software a ton better. Better food logging, integration with RunKeeper, plus the interface just looks better, including the iPhone app.

I wish it was waterproof though as that is a major advantage of the Up.

I also want to try the MotoACTV, as it would be a cool watch to wear around. I have my doubts about its battery life though (With LCD, GPS, Pedometer, Bluetooth, and some kind of ARM cpu), I don't want to plug my watch in more than my phone.

I decided to return my UP after 3 days. The concept is nice but the product is lacking. The only thing it did for me was track to sleep that too sucked because I don't fixed schedule so I have to keep syncing the band for an alarm.

Cons:
1. No wifi or bluetooth: manually syncing 2-3 times a day is pointless
2. No web interface.
3. Does not track activity unless arms are moving so if you are biking or have your hands on the treadmill rails, it won't work
4. Buttons suck and keep getting pressed during sex
5. It loves to grab and pull on women's hair
6. Not integrated with lose it or other cool weightless apps like fitbit does
7. Seems pointless for the money

I bought the tomtom app for $99, and also have bought a couple of other apps for $49.

I am sure this app will get better with more users and user feedback to the company.
Unfortunately for early adopters though, I think this will only happen with hardware updates, not software of firmware.

There are many people out there that won't be a new product (car, phone, etc) when it's first released, just because of that. Early adopters make things better for late adopters. Yeah you don't get the benefits that the late adopter will get, but you will get the current benefits that are offered.

I agree, wholeheartedly. That's why I bought one and am enjoying it despite it's lacking.

Had mine since Friday afternoon and so far it's about what I figured.

I have literally not once taken a food picture as I keep forgetting and from what I've read it doesn't really do anything useful anyway.

It does remind me to get up though while I'm sitting behind a computer all day at work. That alone has been a positive change for me.

I like the sleep cycle tracking and I do want to try and test my activity from the prior day.

I wish you never had to push a button but I get it's limited in what I can do while also maintaining a desired form factor.

The biggest thing I'd love for it to have over anything else would be wireless sync. Bluetooth 4.0 seems like a no brainer here.

After that I'd like to decouple it from iOS only.

Why can't I view all the data I sync to my phone on their website also with my same login? Sometimes I want to just pull up the data on a big screen and review it and it's annoying that I'm stuck using my iPhone or iPad that just stretches it.

But that said, I'm still happy enough with it that I'm not at a point that I'm wondering if I should return it or not.

Got one for my girlfriend and me two days ago. Overall I like it (and she does too). So here's my quick thoughts on it...

Comfort:
Most of the time I forget that its on (which is a good thing), but I did have problems sleeping with it. I sleep with my hand under my pillow and woke up with an aching wrist. The next day I made sure not to do the same. Not really a huge deal imo. I'm assuming future generations of the device will be smaller and wireless.

Move:
So I mainly bought this so that I can track how active I am from day to day. As an extra bonus, my girlfriend and I are constantly monitoring each others activities, policing our lazy habits.

The calorie count, steps, and distance traveled are not always perfect. It calculated 2.26mi on a 2.1mi run, with 260calories burned (probably closer to 200). Another note to add is that small movements seem to add to the steps, a 2 hour car ride for example gave me 86 steps.

Overall, it works for me. In my eyes the small errors in calculations aren't really a big deal when tracking overall daily activity. If everything is wrong to the same degree, then I still get pretty graphs that say yesterday I was more lazy then today. I am constantly doing small things to try to get more steps in to beat my girlfriend =p. Will the motivation last? I don't know, but for now its working.

Sleep:
Not much to say here, it tracked my two nights of sleep pretty accurately. It even noticed I woke up to get a drink of water. The vibration alarm is very pleasant compared to the loud music blaring from my iPhone. As i mentioned before I had one night that I slept on it and woke up with wrist aches, but this can be avoided.

Eat:
From all the reviews, this is the worst part about the Up. It really is, but there is some positive to the eat function. With supportive friends (or girlfriend) you can monitor what each person is eating. I found myself not eating at McDonalds the other day b/c i didn't want to post it for my girlfriend to see. Neither of us are overweight, but we like to stay fit.

Challenges:
I thought this was a bit of a gimmick (kinda like the Nike+ stuff), but since its so easy to accept challenges on the iPhone I actually took the challenge and rubbed it in my significant others face =). If you have friends, it definitely makes it interesting. Otherwise, doing challenges may get a bit boring.

The App:
Right now...really buggy. I can list a handful right off the top of my head. Sometimes it fails to sync (I unplug it and plug it back in multiple times). It forces my iPhones volume to max and I have to hard reset my phone. App doesn't display statistics from time to time...etc etc. Yes, its buggy...but it will get better.

Conclusion:
If I weren't a gadget nut, would I get one now? Probably not. As someone mentioned before this seems like a trial run and the app definitely has a beta-feel to it. Maybe the next firmware/software update will add in much of the functionality I want. Its got me motivated right now, so its doing its job. Whether its worth 100$ or not is up to you.

I bought Sleep Cycle just now after reading your post. Let me see how it works tonight.

So? How do you like it? I bought it myself, and it appears to be working well for me. Waking up has been relatively delightful so far – even with only 5 hours of sleep last night. It feels a bit more like waking up on your own than being woken by the alarm. It might all just be due to the placebo effect, but at the very least it got me excited about sleeping again... :p

To answer my own question, I received an email today with tracking information, and the package was shipped Monday. Not bad AT&T, not bad.

I did not see the discount in my Shopping Cart for this purchase.
The online AT&T chat says that the UP is not eligible for disco9unt

MS

It definitely worked for me the other day. In fact it worked for 2 of em. They have been shipped. Arriving tomorrow.

Maybe it is now not under discount because it's officially released, and they found out it shouldn't have been discounted to begin with. Or perhaps a location thing.

Lame though.

I slept during the day yesterday and it a did a good job tracking my sleep. I took a long time to fall asleep and it caught that as well. Unfortunately I woke up before my band could wake me up due to external noises.
This is either a dream-come-true or a nightmare for moderate insomniacs like myself. I'm not sure which.

I sure find the idea tempting, though.

It definitely did work. I added one to my cart to buy and it took the 25% off making it around 75 and some change, but I kept second guessing buying it. I didn't order it. I went it the next day to ATT and was going to buy it with the 25% coupon I had received in the mail, but was told the UP wasn't eligible for it. So, I guess at some point AT&T decided to change their minds!

It forces my iPhones volume to max and I have to hard reset my phone.

So that's what's causing my volume to max...! (Unless it isn't) I had the same issue and couldn't figure out what the problem was. For my problem, I found a workaround - I play a song from my iPhone (just initiate the play and turn it off), and the volume goes back to norm. Try it out :)

Cons:

4. Buttons suck and keep getting pressed during sex
5. It loves to grab and pull on women's hair

button (singular) and... you do know you can take it off during sex right? since it doesn't really monitor that activity. smiles. or at least not yet.

in my experience (both in taking it on and off) the UP is more of a hint on what is to come than a mature product (no sexual innuendos intended). It does an okay job and provides reasonable data for data freaks like me.
