So, Conan will make $33 million for leaving Tonight Show and his staff will be nicely compensated as well ($12 million total for the staff). That's not a bad deal.

But, will Conan still be entitled to $33 million if he decides to jump to another network or cable?

yes, he has to wait 7 months though

y is he doing that.. i thought j leno was a highly sophisticated man wiith charasmatic personality and great sense of humour

well when it comes to money then you see a man's true face.. he did this before with letterman as well

I'm beginning to think Dave is going to soon announce his retirement with Conan taking over The Late Show, allowing him to compete head-to-head with Jay and hopefully prove once and for all he's the better host.

Didn't Letterman just sign a new 5 year deal?

Exactly. Although, if Dave did extend this offer to Conan, but Leno had a secret agreement with Dave regarding this, it could be the biggest double-whammy joke ever pulled on a single person in the history of mankind ---- a joke 10 years in the making. :p

Letterman had said he will retire when he regains the No.1 title. When Leno comes back, who will be No.1? Will Letterman be No.1 this time around?

I like the idea of Conan succeeding Letterman, bringing Conan back to New York.

Conan needs to be back on TV as soon as possible if he wants to keep his career alive. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Letterman made a deal with Conan to take over Ferguson's spot with a clause that he gets Letterman's position when Letterman leaves.

Ferguson can always go back to acting. Conan can not.

conan wouldnt take it. I think he goes to fox. in the meantime we will see him making appearances everywhere. he has a LOT of friends in entertainment. this will come back to bite nbc execs in the a$$ and hopefully we will see heads roll at the top

No way FOX invests the (reported) $100 million to launch a late night franchise. How many times has FOX failed at late night talk? Sorry, Coco isn't franchise material.

so you're saying networks are not really known for doing things that don't seem logical? with this whole drama conan became franchise material overnight and fox could look to capitalize on nbc's mess

Sure, the media was all over this and America took sides. In a few weeks, no one will even remember. Let's face it, this happened because he wasn't getting the ratings NBC expected. NBC may have totally blown it but, in the end, they got what they wanted all along, Jay back at 11:30.

I'm saying FOX won't do it because TV ad sales are in the toilet and they won't commit $100 million to take a third stab at late night. Not for a guy who was routinely 3rd in the time slot.

Conan isn't going to take Ferguson's job from him because it would make himself look like a hypocrite.

Uh......$100 million. Think about how much money that is. Why would a network pay that much to get a guy on TV to tell jokes at 11:35 pm to 2.5 million people per night?

Conan might go straight to cable. They won't have to worry about affiliates that way.

I'm actually wondering...Letterman is in his 60s, he's probably going to want to retire soon. And while it would be natural for Craig Ferguson to take his place, I don't think Craig would want to because his style of edgy, off the wall humor will not work in the 11:30 timeslot and he couldn't get away with half the stuff he does at 12:30. I'm beginning to think Dave is going to soon announce his retirement with Conan taking over The Late Show, allowing him to compete head-to-head with Jay and hopefully prove once and for all he's the better host.

That seems unlikely to me. Letterman is pretty notorious for having no life outside his show. What would he do with his time if he quit? It would be satisfying for him to go out while on top, but he'd have to know what he wants to do with himself already.

A lot of people have suggested that he go to cable. Some have mentioned Comedy Central after Stewart and Colbert, which would be a great slot to do the wacky things he would want to try. But he'd have to get used to much smaller paychecks on cable. Who knows if he wants to do that.

A rumor is that Fox signs him to FX to start and then moves him to network once the local stations agree.

And he replaces Simon on Idol.

I missed this one:

Conan O'Brien's Production Company Sells Pilot To NBC
Days after the network severed ties with O'Brien as host of "The Tonight Show," it picked up an hourlong pilot from O'Brien's production company, Conaco…

As part of O'Brien's $33 million settlement with NBC, his NBC-based company was to continue to operate at NBC Uni through the end of the development season.

The untitled O'Brien project, known as "Justice," was written by John Eisendrath. Described as a new take on a law show with a larger-than-life character at the center, it follows an ex-Supreme Court justice who quits the Court to start his own legal practice.

Ya that is why his production company has to stay at NBC through September.

Conan OBrien has discovered Twitter.:D

His first tweet: Today I interviewed a squirrel in my backyard and then threw to commercial. Somebody help me.

He's just awesome.

Check out his Twitter bio.

Bahahaha i love that guy!

"Bio: I had a show. Then I had a different show. Now I have a Twitter account."

LOL and i can't believe Conan lost his show while Snookie still has hers.
