Before the season started? How would you know then? :D

But seriously, she may be irritated but since that is no minor point but a crucial one I think they should have made that clear to the audience. There wasn't any dialogue or so to support that - and I recall her vividly saying multiple times that there is nobody that could resist his powers (inlcuding her) up until episode 9 or 10. Sorry, but the way they showed it makes her look stupid imo (unnecessarily!) since you aren't 100% mind controlled all the time but at one point (why? remains a total mystery = bad writing) you just decide to walk away while being told to stay and that's it: "Whoa, that was strange.. *shrugs* .. must have been a fluke better not think about that anymore"

What indeed is made clear are the reasons that she points out to be the only one who can approach him:

a) because she want's to save the others of facing him so to not endager them (sth. she completely fails at)

b) because she knows that he is obsessed by her.

Anyway, for me that whole thing is a cop-out. If that's the way she's depicted in the comics (being resistant to his powers): ok, should have been written in the TV series better then. If not: I think it'd be way more interesting (and fitting the noir-flair) to have a "super-hero" who isn't able to face his arch-villain on the same super-level but to think of a different way to outsmart him - hence rendering his super-powers rather useless. Would be very fitting for JJ since she isn't your typical super-dude in a suit (like DD is for example).

And please don't get me wrong: I don't want to lessen your enjoyment of the show one bit. It's basically my frustration speaking because the premise was fantastic, the rest totally delivers but these imo unecessary decisions take away what could have been so much more.

No problem. :)

I'll clarify, if I understood you correctly, you said about episode 9 she knew she could resist Killgrave? I pointed out that the period of time where he had control of her, where he ordered her to "take care" of someone, and where she first walked away from him, took place before Episode 1. She does not know why, just that it happened, but she still feared him because she did not know if she is truly free of his power. No problem for me.

Alright, that makes more sense.

I'll repeat though (for the last time :D, think there's no point to discuss this as the series just doesn't explain or show it) that the fact that she knew that something had been strange - she could walk away - was etremely poorly depicted, to my understanding not at all, as an inner question or even realization. She never voiced that possibility - not even in one of her inner monologues (except in case I missed that of course). The time she does realize it it, when she walks into the cell after her set up was totally f'd up resulting in the gruesome "suicide" by his mother, is also shown as a total surprise to her - while also, once more, showing that specific flashback as to tell the audience: "Ah, that makes sense now."

That she (still) is afraid of him makes sense either way of course.

It's nice discussing with you though. Series is a nice one, but too many irks to put it anywhere DD (who you could argue plays it more safe/conservatively ) but still head and shoulder above many if not most of the other comic adaptions.

Btw. I have a bit of a bad feeling when they mix up DD with JJ. But we'll see.

And since I never acutally said it here: I do like the character a lot! Also the actress is a very good match. It's just a problem of writing/dialogues imo.

Personally the villian, and in general villains are scarier, the less we see of them. This villian was strangely appealing, not as bad as a bad guy can be, despite raping and ordering people to kill themelves, possibly because he had no agenda other than amusing and satisfying his personal needs. Sympathetic to a degree because he too was a victim, but was like an omnipotent, sociopath child without a moral compass. He did whatever he felt like, not bound by guilt or human empathy. Was this sickness who he was or what they made him? I guess that means he was not 2 dimensional, a plus..fixed :)

How is that related to my post you're quoting??

I agree but he wasn't "made", no? - they've tried to help him. (At least that's what I got from it so far).

He is indeed interesting as a concept - the actor overplays a bit too much imo, but that's no biggie. Since he can basically do whaterver he pleases I find it strange that he's obsessed with JJ or that they don't show him fooling around some more.

All this plays in the MCU so the line ("Hey, we just had friggin' aliens invade our city why don't u guys believe me when I say there is a mind controlling Brit running around?!" * dude shrugs* "C'mon, aliens is one thing but mind control? Get outta here!") is also a bit weak sauce. :D

I really dug Trish and while I thought that police officer was way to average (and creepy) a guy to hit on a woman of that caliber I also liked what they did to him story wise. That was a fun twist. Also with Trish on pills. :)

My excuse: I edited out a comment before I posted, so I went back and eradicate your quote. :)

Agree completely with this remark. For a lack of better words, the dialog/script was not as smart or as good as it was with DD. DD is one of my favorite shows. Here is hoping it doesn't loose anything in the next season! Going to be pretty tough.

Thanks, "script" was the word I was searching for.

And I'm cautiously optimistic re DD S2 - Punisher seems like a good fit in general. And the whole "He who has no name" > "Fisk" > "Wilson Fisk" setup to have a one sec appearance of "(Almost) The Kinpin" makes me pretty much hyped for at least a brief appearance of him in S2 - love that guy! I guess the Hand will appear - doesn't ring a bell so far but the more ninjas the better I say! :D

Oh, and Elektra of course - gonna be awesome! WOOT WOOT :D

I am super interested to see how The Punisher will come across. I like the guy who is playing him, but I hope, and from the looks of the past season, they do not water him down! I want to see him raw and "taking no prisoners!" type guy!

YES!! But I have a good feeling. That contrast (Punisher <> DD) is super crass and I guess they'll take their chances with that setup. I sure hope so. When is it due though? March right?

March 18th was the date I have seen a few times from the various comic book websites I visit.

Thx rhett, i'm new to netflix, is it an episode per week or put they all of them up there right from the start?

Lol, Agreed! Two steps forward and one back (at least): that's modern progress for you.

At least you and your partner are up in this together! Especially with this more gory series I'm left alone even earlier than usually while getting accused when watching on my own. Didn't mind watching DD more or less twice in a row. Not sure I wanna revisit JJ again (that soon). Pity, my gf liked it quite a lot. :D

Finally finished JJ. Unfortunately this thread made me think about this show more than I probably should have - and not for the better! Finale was a huge let down tbh. And once more, captivated in one single episode, she declares "I shall risk no other lives and fight evil alone" just to run head over heels into the action with her lover and sister without any real plan whatsoever. Stupid show. :D

Just read that it was the same producer of Twilight. Figures. :p

And to think they could have used a trained Chimpansee (or somebody else who doesn't understand English) to take Kilgrave out..

..too bad that unbelievable annoying female neighbour survived. I had hopes there! Now we'll see and hear more nonsense of her, rejoice! Big ups to the actress to keep the straight face while saluting her twin-brothers death by throwing an Apple charger into the water.

Half way through season two, actually just finished episode 8. Nice little twist that we didn't see coming. While the villain this time around, can we really call this person a villain, is still really to be seen at this point. I am actually interested to see where this will go. When you get to episode 7 and/or 8 you will see what I mean by my comment above about really being a villain.

For my money though, last season's villain was actually one of the best out there. That man was the stuff of nightmares.

Speaking of him, throughout the season, while I do not know if it is intentional or not, but there is a lot of purple sprinkled throughout each episode! A lot. With the exception of one scene, it is stuff you see in the background or off to the left or right. Nothing in your face, except for the one scene.

I got distracted, Season 2 started 6 months later! :) S2:Ep1&2, kind of a origins story, I love the film noir atmosphere in this series.

S2:E7 A huge flashback into the past of Jessica and Trish’s history of addiction, and the discovery of a lost relative. And the story is more complex than I imagined.

Season 2 was good, however:

The last two episodes with mom were too long and could have been wrapped up in one episode. The mom was the weakest part of the season for me. I would have rather done without her.

I’ll read your spoiler after I’ve finished Season 2. This story has kept me entertained, has been good, but gotten better as it progressed, it went in a direction, I was not expecting. Just finished episode 10, 3 to go. :)

I miss Killgrave! :)
I’ve got mixed feelings about Dr. Karl Malus. He’s not a typical villain.

Ok, finished Season 2, very enjoyable although it’s tough to beat Killgrave. Looking forward to Season 3, maybe Jessica can become more normal.

I liked her mom’s character, however I agree with you that this aspect dragged out a bit, but it did not bother me, although it lacked the bite of Season 1.I liked the character development and the Trish Story which is revving up. :)

I agree with the Trish story, should be interesting to see where they take her next season!
