I'm too OCD for JB.

Matte Black is just the right touch of class and masculinity. JB is sexy, but not enough for me to constantly worry each day.

I disagree making all iPhones glossy. But I think one more high gloss to the lineup would be perfect.

No regrets at all. I've not used a case since day one. It has lots of micro abrasions but in normal use you can't see them at all. If you aren't OCD then JB is awesome.

I love the jet black for 2 reasons

1. It reminds me of the iPhone 3G, which was my first smartphone.
2. It's probably a good indication of what the next iPhone will look like with an all glass back. I won't be buying the iPhone outright this year, so hopefully the similarities will tide me over until January when I'm due an upgrade.

I would've got the matte black but all they had was the jet black in stock.

That being said I've had a case on it that removed the "shine" since day 1 so no ragrets.

I don't regret it. Don't get me wrong, it looks an absolute mess at this stage but I'm really not fussed about that. To me an iPhone serves a functional purpose, which is not affected by scratches/chips etc on the back/edges.
I prefer the jet black for the better feel/grip it has over the matt colours meaning it's much more practical to use without a case.

The back of my launch JB 7+ is scratched all to hell and it's been in a leather or silicone case from the moment it was out of the box. I don't understand it; I've never picked up a single scratch on any other iPhone I've ever owned. Assuming the 8 does come out essentially bezelless I will probably get a color or whatever's most available, since the only reason I've gotten the black phones to date has been to have an all-black face.

Pics or it isn't true.

and it can rock any color case and look great. Picked up the Sunflower yellow Apple leather case this morning, love how it makes the JB color pop. Keeping the Tech 21 case as back up (funny enough the honey comb pattern on the Tech 21 case left its imprint on the back of the 7+ - which immediately came off after a pass with a microfiber cloth).

It's beautiful to look at, beautiful to hold, it's awesome to know that there is a company with that level of commitment to aesthetics to produce this kind of a finish on a commodity such as a mobile phone.

It's also completely impractical for intended use and not durable enough to remain looking as good for the duration of its service life.

Agreed, I purchased the JB last December and I totally regret it. Not because it is not a beautiful design, but because I am OCD. Too much to worry about where as I never worried as much with a Matte finish.

I returned the Jet Black and got Matte Black. It was actually a sad event for me. I loved Jet Black. It feels so much better in the hand to hold and it looks a lot better. The Matte Black looks nice, but the lack of that lovely gloss makes the phone looks outdated.

I got rid of Jet Black because the scratches were noticeable if I put it on it's back, which I did often. I hate scratches. They bother me too easily and I end up getting annoyed each time I look it at. Figured switching to Matte Black is cheaper than seeing a therapist for being bothered at scratches.

As a day one owner, I do and I don't. The fingerprints and so fourth aggravate the hell out of me, however I am quite careful with all of my Apple devices, this phone especially. It is only out of a case when I take it out to clean the dust and so fourth from the bottom and around the camera lens. I can proudly say I only have small abrasions on the top of the phone, around where the antenna band is. They can only be seen at a certain angle and it direct light. This did however come at the cost of me constantly babying it and being extra careful with handling it. I totally dig the look of the device and knew immediately when I saw it that that was the color I wanted, even after reading all of the scratch prone articles.. It truly is a remarkable looking color choice to me. I hate the extra babying it needs to keep the pristine look, but man.. It's definitely a stunning color option.

So much over use/wrong use of the term OCD in this thread. And no not one bit of regret buying the JB.

This comes up all the time. All that matters is not everyone shares your interpretation of what it means, others express it differently, even if they do understand the definition, where someone has no intent to degrade someone esle over the condition.

The Jet Black color exhibits scratches, it's part of owning this model, which Apple made clear what it would show.

I've had the Jet Black since launch, I still don't regret it. My boyfriend got his at the same time and he got the Matte Black. I don't use cases, he does. Mine does have a fair share of scratches and whatnot, but it's nothing I personally worry about and it was never as scratch prone as the internet made such a fuss about in the beginning. I got the Jet Black because I liked how cohesive it looked, almost like a solid sheet of shiny black. That effect is still there. My boyfriends phone is always in cases, but for what it's worth it looks brand new if you take them off.

But long story short; I don't regret getting JB.

The problem is the definition is not a subjective matter, it's a medical term for a specific and debilitating mental health condition, and bandying it about in the way that people do here is quite disrespectful to those who suffer (with the emphasis on suffer) it for real.

For some, OCD is a terminal illness.

On Topic: There is a correlation to my post and your response listed below with the Thread topic/ Jet Black iPhone:

It's a problem if some one is using the term in a sense to disrespect or mock someone that knowingly someone has that condition. Fact is on Macrumors, No one here intentionally is using the term to be deliberate or disrespectful to somebody that does struggle with that specific issue, because there rationale is intended towards an Apple Product.

They're Simply applying the term in terms of how they think they understand it and relating it to something they find that has correlation to A Jet Black iPhone or another electronic product that they seek or find flaws in. It's simple ignorance with no malice, as they are only using the term 'OCD', because thats how they truly believe they understand it (Even if they are wrong), over someone who could be degrading to another with that Condition to be condescending. There is a difference.

The definition of OCD is recorded as a psychiatric disorder characterized by obsessive thoughts and compulsive actions, such as cleaning, checking, counting or hoarding. I am only speaking for myself now, but I do obsess over how clean my iPhone is, or how well it is protected. I am constantly checking for scratches, or cleaning the LCD or removing the case to clean the BSE skin and remove any dirt and dust from the case. When I have to, I place my iPhone down on a micro fiber cloth that I carry around with me everywhere I go. So no, the definition is not subjective to me.

Have you felt so controlled and distressed by this behaviour that you have sought (or been referred for) medical help and been diagnosed with OCD? Or do you just like to keep your phone clean? There is a difference.

OCD actually covers a broad spectrum of behaviours and is far from limited to the stereotype people keep returning to here. In all cases it can be characterised by crippling anxiety and distress, that left untreated can lead to depression and suicide.

Yes, at times I do feel very distressed. It sometimes becomes overbearing the amount of time I put into keeping my devices clean and in mint condition. It is not just my iPhone. No I have not sought out medical help. I also do not need to feel like I have to from a complete stranger.

In all cases it can be characterised by crippling anxiety and distress, that left untreated can lead to depression and suicide.

In all cases? My Brother in Law has been diagnosed with OCD. He is obsessed with clean hands. He is not crippled with anxiety nor distress. Yes it depresses him at times, but mostly when someone ignorantly points out this behavior and makes light of it.

I like the matte black in the new Geranium leather case color. So beautiful!

And the new leather cases are improved over the original ones: grippy and cushiony.

Without a case like this, the phone looks boring to me. Black is just black, doesn't matter whether it's JB or matte.

Also, no one is going to tell me that Apple doesn't "silently improve" their products in a given release cycle. The leather cases are now gripper and do not show the machine markings of the original ones, and the newish iPhone 7 Plus has a screen that's less yellow than the original batches.

This speaks for not jumping on the first releases of any iPhones or accessories. Wait 6 months or more. Let them work out the kinks/bugs.

No regrets. I love how dark it is compared to the matte black and love the shine of it still. My only "issue" is that I can't rock certain cases bc of the watermark issue.
