I originally purchased the JB 7+ and was very happy with the finish/overall look. Problem was I was becoming more and more annoyed by the size of the device since there were no software benefits to having the plus model (and the added annoyance of the landscape home screen). I was also silently admiring my wife's rose gold 6s (more so the white face with the glossy TouchID ring than the actual color) so I traded in the plus and picked up a silver 7.

I regularly find myself wishing I had gone JB again and it really hit me when we were in the Apple Store this past weekend to have a screen repaired and I saw them on display. Does anybody here have a JB they got on release day or close that hasn't been babied in a case? I'm curious as to what 10 months of usage would look like.

No regrets at all. Aside from MacOS / iOS, the main reason I buy Apple products is because of their design, now why would I then go and cover that up with a $50 piece of cheap plastic that removes all of the its allure? The scratches and 'micro abrasions' don't bother me - I accept they are part of the process of owning something that has been machined, much like those vintage Leicas that have that gorgeous brassing.

Now if someone is doing it because they want to exchange products with each launch cycle (seriously, there's gotta be something better in life to spend hard-earned money on than a new Apple product every 12 months!), that's a different thing and I'm assuming not what we are discussing - OCD tendencies aside as well.

Each to their own but I can never understand cheap, plasticky cases, sheaths, wallets that cover up something that has such a strong visual identity. Unless someone thinks a phone case is an accurate indicator of one's personality, it's like dressing a model in bin liners and calling it fashion.

Even on an apple silicone case my jet black is full of hairline scratches and dots on the back, don't ask me about the camera cutout of the case, my jet black has a ring made of scratches all around the camera cutout -..-

I still regret to have it and not to choose another color, mostly because of the resale value when it's time to sell it and get money to buy the next iphone u_u

Yeah, too bad you wrecked the finish with a case rubbing grit into it. I’m interested in how it looks having NOT been in a case, though.

Most people want added security of not having their device broken. I'm jailbroken and if i crack my screen my  store will update my phone even if i tell them not to. So I can't risk the beauty of my jailbreak due to my extremely greasy fingers.

The Jetblack overall holds up better, there is a big issue with the other colors paint chippping off due to unproperly cured paint...so don't feel bad

I've had mine since October and it still looks pretty much brand new. Been in an Apple silicon case most of its life though.

Not too sure how many times it has to be stated, but there is no paint involved in the anodizing of the iphones.

For me it's more to do with the fact I'm very clumsy and have dropped my phone so many times.I agree though,it's much nicer without a case.

Day one purchase, no case ever, still looks magnificent, just very few micro abrasions that I never notice unless I deliberately hold the back of the phone at a certain angle in direct sunlight. The only option that would make me skip the jet black next time would be a glossy white version.

I have always opted for the darker models, due to not being a fan of the white face. Man, it would be tempting though if a glossy white finish was offered though! It would be sleek as hell.

Yeah, I imagine it would look kinda like the ceramic Apple Watch, shiny white body with (seemingly) bezelless black screen, i.e. absolutely amazing. Fingers crossed!

i just got my first iPhone since the 3GS (had the 3G before that as well) last month, and originally i picked up the 128GB in the Matte Black at Costco; but returned it because A) i didn't like the color and B) 128GB isn't enough

What is funny is this is the SAME EXACT color as they offered in the original 3G and 3GS - except they had white. It is funny how people buy. Same thing with the OG MacBook and even the Xbox; and even clothing, etc. Trends come and go i suppose. The glossy black is the way to go. It is all one color, instead of the two tone of the other options, minus the matte black. If there was a glossy dark blue, i would have gotten that one!

so when I get my JB 7 Plus should I put a leather case on it or will the case actually scratch it?

I was worried about how the bottom of the device would hold up, since it is completely exposed. I'd imagine it will scratch up pretty easy inside of your pocket and such. Other posts seem to back this up, but I can't personally confirm it.

How about like...a picture from someone that said their jet black phone looks like crap. Instead of just all this talk

I've now had my iPhone 7 Jet Black for nine months, and I couldn't be happier. I will never buy a slippery matte iPhone again. I really love the fantastic grip the Jet Black gives me compared to the matte ones. I've had all the previous models, and the slipperiness was what I always hated about the 6 and 6S. This feels more like the 3GS. I had never dropped an iPhone before I got the 6, and then I dropped both the 6 and 6S one time each, and had to replace the cracked screens. The Jet Black 7 will surely never slip out of my hand, so it's already saving me money!

When I use it, it's aways naked. Only when I'm not using it do I put it in a Sena Herritage Ultraslim leather pouch. I don't have any scratches that are visible under indoor lighting or normal outside lighting. The only time you see the micro scratches, are if you shine a bright light on it or look at it in strong direct sunlight. So for 95% of the time, it still looks brand new. That's good enough for me. I polish the iPhone regularly with the fine side of a Toddy cloth, and that takes care of fingerprints and doesn't seem to create any scratches.

When I buy my next iPhone, it will surely be a Jet Black as well. Unless the 8 has a front and back made of glass, in which case the glass will be non slippery and that would work too.

I've had mine since November or so, and it's still flawless (used in an Apple OEM leather case).

My friend's matte black is not so fortunate. Same case.

Not at all. Not even a little bit. I fricken love it. It's a bloody good looking sexy device. I'm really happy with it. I love that the glossy back feels exactly like the screen to my fingers.

I don't have my phone in a case either, but when I'm not using it, it goes into a neoprene sleeve. So the phone itself never goes into my pocket naked and it still looks pristine when wiped down (it gets some fingerprints over time). There's only 2 times it doesn't go into the sleeve when I'm not using it, and that's when it's on my bedside table when I go to bed and when I'm at work. Both times, it lies ON the sleeve.

Chances are if the next iPhone has that ugly cutout at the top (that I'm really not fond of), I'm keeping the Jet Black 7 Plus I'm using now.

Partially. In December it'll be a year I've had it and it's only got minor micro scratches. I'd post a picture but it keeps looking like I'm taking a picture of glass!

The reception on the Intel modem has been subpar and I've had to use my 6s during traveling between cities.

I am keeping this device though as I paid a lot up front to get the highest storage. So trading it in seems like a real waste. It's still pretty to look at just like my blue 5c.
