I have had mine in an Apple leather case since launch, no scratches anywhere on the casing of the phone, even on the exposed bottom. I am not sure how you guys are getting those scratches. I have removed the phone from the case weekly and dusted off the phone and the inside of the case with a microfiber towel. There is a very faint micro scratch on the screen because I don't have a screen protector on it yet.
Wish I knew too!

How are you guys getting these scratches with it being in a case? I've had mine since launch with the apple leather case and it looks perfect.
I honestly have no clue. Been handling more careful than past phones, but those scratches are all at the bottom. Maybe just a bad batch?

Here's a picture of my blemishView attachment 661318

I can live with scratches, but that would drive me insane (on any phone), especially with a phone this expensive!!!

Did you take it to Apple? Did they do anything about it? This shouldn't be happening to a brand new phone of this caliber and if it did, I hope they offered to replace it immediately! (Even if they're unable to give you a jet black right away).

I've had my jet black 7 since Monday (day 5 today) and put it directly into an apple leather case. On Tuesday I put the phone into an armband and ran 15 miles (marathon coming up) then took it out and wiped it off and put it directly back into the leather case. Last night I took it out and decided to just enjoy it without a case and check and see under the light if any scratches have somehow happened. And I found 1 hairline scratch about an inch long and one spot a little smaller than a pea right under the apple logo that appears to be little scratches and scuffs. Pretty sure those weren't there a few days ago when I first peeled the new film off. Oh well it is what it is. And you only see it if you go hunting for it under a light. I'll be keeping it in my leather case for grip and putting it in an arm band at least 3-4 times a week with running. We'll see how it holds up!

Surprisingly, I haven't done anything about it. I've begun to realize that I've spent way too much time OCD'ing for perfection in my devices so I've started to force myself just to not care about the issues and just enjoy the phone! Plus, it's not even that noticeable of an issue and it could be WAY worse!

Hats off to you, seriously. I would have touched it up with a non-irredescent permanent marker if I wasn't gonna take it to Apple, otherwise I would have kept thinking about it lol

I've been using mine for about a week now with no case. If you look at it under the right light you can see that its covered in micro scratches. But they really are just that, micro scratches, you can only see them if you look for them and it still looks great under normal every day conditions and use. So far I really don't think people should be put off getting this colour because of this 'issue'.
Here are a few photos i took of it today, I tried to use my cameras flash on a few to get the scratches to show up but they aren't really visible in any of the photos.

You've used your phone in a case and got a scratch on the screen?

I've had every iPhone since the day the first came out, never used a case on any of them and i've never ever got any scratches on the screen. They're really really scratch resistant, i don't know why anyone would spoil the feel and look with a screen protector that lives a line around the home button.

someone mentioned wear of the lightning port. i checked mine, there is one tiny dot, looks silver

i've had the phone 3 days now, idk if i did it or it was already like that (it was probably me)

i keep mine caseless \:

I wondered if running might cause scratches. I keep mine in the Apple silicone case and then an armband. I would be interested in others' experiences using an armband.

For a thread titled "Jet Black Scratch Pictures" there sure are a lot of posts without pictures!

(yes, I get the irony of this post)

In my case I put a skin on the phone and you can't see the scratches through it. Not going to take the skin off so guess people will just have to take my word for it.

First they were threads about how JBs were "getting scratched" easily, and people put skins on.

A few months from now it'll be threads about the labels stripping off from removing the skins. :D

Its a concern but if it happens I will be taken a drive to the Apple store.

I really don't want to say that you're wrong, but there is literally no way that you have never gotten a scratch on your screen. The screen has an oleophobic coating that scratches much easier than glass, and thus the many microabrasions/scratches that people see on their screens in the light. I am more than willing to bet that all of your phones had at the very least, tiny, hard to see scratches that would only show in the light. Unless you live in a very sterile environment with no dust, lint, dirt, etc.. there is just no way.

Hey y'all, have an opportunity to switch out a JB 7 Plus for my MB. If it's in a silicone case, do y'all think the bottom will get scratched at all from being taken in and out of a pocket or walking around with the phone put in speaker down? Sounds like one user here with a leather case hasn't had any issues with this. Just wondering if any others have had an issue. I really love the silicon case.

In the case of the jet black I believe a case will create more minor damage than leaving it naked. I have no visible marks to report since owning it. A case constantly up against its finish with any kind of pocket debris will surely create minor marks all over the pretty vulnerable antenna lines which seem much more easily scratched.

I picked up one near the edge I believe from putting in/out of the case but otherwise it's ok. Something else I've been doing when wiping off fingerprints is being very gentle with the cloth. We instinctively go at it with a fearsome rub but by gently wiping it down I've avoided scratching the back at all. Also, the lightning port seems to be holding up well considering I plug it into my car aux port every day and put in on a dock at night.

Nope, I have never had a scratch on my screen - and many of the iPhones I owned were release before the olephobic coating was even released. No "micro abriasions" (I see this is the new buzz word) no little scratches nothing - i've never used a case and i've only broken one screen in all those years (what 10 now?) and that was the iPhone 6 which I hated because it was too big and too slippy - at least the Jet Black solves the slipping feeling and i've just got to put up with the size.

Never? The oleophobic coating will show scratches fairly easy. I smell BS.

Scratches are pretty rare for me as well. Going all the way back to the 3GS, I've only had one really light scratch (maybe less than 1mm) on my iPhone 5, and you could only see it when held at an angle in the right lighting. I've stopped buying screen protectors because I just haven't had a need for them personally. iPhone in pocket, in a case. And I'm pretty careful with it. Never goes face down on anything.

I can see how it might get scratched in a purse or something. But from normal use I'd have to agree it's pretty hard.

Never - I've still got my 6s here, its been used for over a year now, caseless, and I quite often place it face down for privacy, there are no scratches on the screen no matter what light I hold it in. I'm not sure what you guys do to your phones - maybe you've just never tried them without screen protectors because you're too scared of it? Even a scratch on the screen would look better than any screen protector on the market anyway which leaves what looks like a hairline crack all the way around the edge of the phone and touch ID, changes the feel of the screen and all that time Apple spent moving the pixels as close to the glass as possible is wasted with an extra free mm of overly cautious ugly and useless protection.

Thanks for backing me up haha.

I can't deal with the people who keep claiming that their screens are pristine after years of usage. Our friend here is even saying that they place their phone FACE DOWN a lot and that nothing happens to the screen. You will literally get a microscratch or whatever within a week of ownership. Do people just not know how to look at the screen at an angle in direct sunlight? It's so frustrating to me. There is just literally a 0% chance that their glass survived a year of usage without a SINGLE blemish. That's not how glass works, especially when there are so many other things that can scratch the glass, most of them being tiny and hidden way whether in the air or in your pocket. Ugh!!

Could be that he never uses his phone outdoors?

That's really the only way I could think that one could go a year without even one micro abrasion on the screen.

I guess but unlikely. I would pocket my phone and never have anything else in my pocket and over time I ever got a few light scratches in the oleophobic coating.
