We all should have purchased the "magic" matte finish phones that are super scratch resistant.

I also don't use a screen protector - and I don't baby my phone. OH MAH GAWD TEH HUMANITIES

For the record that 6 Plus was a launch day - used by me for a year and my husband for another year, and the only case he slapped on it was an Apple Leather, for when he's working on the car or his motorcycle. It's flown so many times...and still not bent.

It's been in a case yet it got all kind of scratches. It's work phone so I don't care! I have a 7 plus silver no scratches :)

You asked if anyone actually cared about the colour so much that we don't care if it may scratch. I answered you.

I also pointed out that Apple's wording and some people's interpretation of it show scary lack of reading comprehension. I also pointed out that because some claimed it scratched so easily doesn't make it true - many said that very thing about 'bendgate' and I did everything wrong with the super bendy phone and it refused to bend, so some may be blowing it out of proportion.

Like you, for example.

You people need a remedial class in reading comprehension.

Apple says no such thing. They said it will SHOW these abrasions moreso, due to the high polish.

The highly polished links on my watch bracelet show scratches much more than the brushed links. Doesn't mean that the polished links are more easily scratched.

Good luck in life.

If you can't see a scratch then to me, it's not scratched.

Here's a scratch test for you fanboys in denial. I'm sure you'll claim Cnet is full of it but whateva.

Websites and YouTube are full of JB units whose scratches were deliberately induce or thrown around. Most actual JB owners take better care of their devices than that. To be fair, I can already see a few fine micro-abrasions on my launch day JB, but I also saw the exact same thing on my glossy "jet black" iPhone 3GS/4/4s after a few weeks of use.

They're recommending a case because they know how anal retentive some of their customers are, and they don't want them come complaining to Apple because they previously didn't see scratches on their gold/silver/light Space Gray iPhones. Light colors and matte finishes simply hide them better than glossy black finishes. We saw the same thing with the black vs. white iPhone 3G and 4 series.

Just stop.... my God! LoL!

I think people need to realize not all JBs are going to scratch the same. The anodizing process probably "takes" differently sometimes. I never had an issue with the iphone 5 slate, yet some people looked at it wrong and it would scratch.

Seems like these "scratchegate" jokers are all relatively new members, over the last couple of years.

We did get a few Black and Slate iPhone 5 units whose anodizing coating was clearly defective, in which case the black would rub off like crazy with a microfiber, even on the back. You normally couldn't get it to rub off like that, and they were clearly defective unlike the rest of Black and Slate units whose wear over time was found mostly on the edges.

The point here is glossy black finishes will show fine micro-abrasions with use more easily than glossy white finishes, regardless of whether it's plastic, glass or aluminum. It's simply more difficult to see these same fine micro-abrasions on lighter color and matte/brushed finishes.

Exactly!

Yep that's exactly where all of mine are too. You don't happen to have an Apple Leather Case do you? I don't know where it would be dragging and causing scratches in that area, but it might be more than a coincidence...

The jet blacks are made at different places so the quality will be different. That's why Apple is making so few of them. Some will scratch and some won't as fast/as much

The first thread I ever read were people feel privileged or lucky that they have a device that's more scratch prone

This thread is now about ppl who have matte iphones who are salty that they werent able to purchase a jet black in time so now they try to find flaws that arent really there. Not only this, but link pictures where dirty people dont clean their hands and probably toss their iphone in their pocket with keys lol.

In fact, MacTechnics, I guarantee my Jet Black iphone will be cleaner than your matte black will ever be, not to mention the awesome grip that it brings. Have fun with your phone that has the same grip as a soap bar.

Well said

Depending on what I'm doing that day, mine will be nude or I'll slap on a apple leather case. I haven't noticed any micro abrasions yet. But I also don't inspect my phone under a microscope either. I originally bought matte black on launch day because I was scared of JB. Then I swapped on Sunday and I'm so glad a did. Jet Black is so sharp and had excellent grip.

I am greatly curious as to why the one person vehemently attacking others choice in colour and throwing around words like 'fanboy' is so hugely concerned for everyone else's phone that he doesn't own.

Those of us that own it don't care as much as he does. It's almost like he's talking himself out of buying it for himself.

Weird.

*goes back to my scratched all to heck (oh wait, no it's not) JB 7 Plus and continues not to worry or care*

I have quite a number of mini micro-abrasions around the corners from (I'm assuming) laying it down on a table. I haven't been using a case, and I've had the phone since Saturday. You really can't see any of them unless it's held up directly to a light, but they're there. I would attach a picture, but I don't have a camera other than the camera on my phone at the moment lol.

How are you guys getting these scratches with it being in a case? I've had mine since launch with the apple leather case and it looks perfect.

I don't know if mine came scratched from the factory or if it scratch setting it on the table, not real sure.

I have had mine in an Apple leather case since launch, no scratches anywhere on the casing of the phone, even on the exposed bottom. I am not sure how you guys are getting those scratches. I have removed the phone from the case weekly and dusted off the phone and the inside of the case with a microfiber towel. There is a very faint micro scratch on the screen because I don't have a screen protector on it yet.
