hope this helps some compare.

Both were Store models, so they should have had the same amount of handling.

Good heavens those are terrible pictures of that JB 7. I sure hope it looks better than that in person. Personally I ordered the matte plus. I really wanted that JB, but I wasn't prepared to wait that long (I think it was mid to late October, while my matte black was 9/23. Love the look of the piano black but the smudges and fingerprints would drive me round the bend. Also, the matte is so stealthy looking. I really like it as well.

I look at the Jet Black iPhone just like a black car - really classy and beautiful in the perfect conditions, but in real life (dust, dirt, scratches) can look terrible. More like an object of desire than a practical device. In day-to-day use, matte black will look much better.

Excellent description. The Matte black looks far more sleek. In my opinion, when it goes time to sell the Jet Black, it will be a harder sell being the condition it can take shape of. The OP posted some great pictures as well to show what the Jet Black resembles after being handled a lot.

Jetblack looks way nicer in person.

Real life usage does not involve hundreds of hands touching it.

Only yours. Prints are easily wiped away with a micro fiber cloth.

In any case, you can get a naked transparent skin wrap if you wish to protect it from scratches and fingerprints.

In terms of pure looks, Jet black looks better.

Matte Black just can't be done justice in pictures. It's so much darker in person.

Exactly this. The jet black phone is gorgeous in person and it feels awesome to hold. Pics and videos don't do it justice, and it's not going to look remotely like that with one or two people handling it regularly. Unless you're a mechanic working on greasy engines all day, fingerprints are really not a big deal.

Having said that, I'm enjoying my matte black plus. I only needed 32 gigs and an extra $100 wasn't worth it IMO.

Agree with this as well. When I first saw it in person, I was pleasantly surprised. It looked "dark grey" in every pic I had seen up to that point.

Thanks OP! Went to the Apple Store in Rome yesterday to compare but they didn't even hap a Jet Black on display.

Have my heart set on the matte black as soon as I get home from holidays

LOL there is no way I am carrying around a microfiber cloth to clean the phone like it's a pair of sunglasses. That's just ridiculous. The jet black is so beautiful but it requires too much babying.

lol you don't need to. Just do it when you're at home or in the office.

I intend to use a clear skin on the back anyway. That should prevent scratches and fingerprints and still maintain the naked look

Personally, I like the Jet Black better. But, I also don't think any of the Matte black cars that are around my area look good either.

I feel some people here are posting to help justify their choice. I think there are people who wanted JB but when the wait time went to October and even November, they decided to order the Matte because it was available now. I may have done the same if I had to wait that long too. Now, some of those people are just trying to convince themselves that the matte is the phone they want to avoid the buyers remorse for not being willing to wait for what they had first wanted.

Of course not everyone fits that, I know people who wanted MB right from seeing the keynote, so to each their own. They are all the same on the inside, only difference is the color on the outside.

I've seen the JB in person and not a fan... I think it's shiny but not so much that it looks sleek (Like liquid glass shiny...)

Imho but others may like that particular finish.

Obviously this was as close as they can get given production limitations and probably also why there's a delay in the amount produced alongside the demand.

I don't understand why people keep making threads with photos of the store demo models. Of course these are going to look bad, a million people a day come in and grab at them, drop them, bang them on things, etc. The store demo model is not an accurate representation of how the phones will hold up in the real world.

My original order was for the JB, but cancelled and went for the matte, partly because of the November ship date and partly because I know how anal I am when it comes to the condition of my tech toys. I still love the JB though, I saw it as a bit of a throw back to the 3G and 4 models. I really loved that glossy black look on them.
I also figured that there would be water marks in a clear case, and that would drive me nuts, and I'm too scared to go commando. "Always use protection" is my motto

Well we have little else to go off at the moment considering how little stock of the JB there is...

really great photos. This is probably the most realistic photos I have seen as to how JB looks in person. Other pictures on the internet look very different. The Matte actually looks darker than these photos make it look though.

Personally, I do not care for the black apple logo on the matte. It makes it look to "plain" IMO...like a black slab.

True, but at the same time everyone was so worried that the JB would scratch so easy that seeing the store pictures and the displays in person at my local store it is good to see they are not scratched up from all the handling dropping on the tables and just a **** load of finger prints.

I'm sure the finish will scratch and scratch easier than other phones, but I'm not concerned about my phone, if you take care of your "toys" they will still look like new even a year later when it is time to sell them.

Mainly b.c a lot of the photos on the internet do not look anything like the way JB looks in person. I am not talking about fingerprints, but the actual way the phone looks.

I like the way it looks and the fingerprints do not bother me, but it looks so so different than photos online.

In the same vein, I think there are people justifying the other way also. I have yet to see a JB owner saying anything other than "fingerprints aren't a big deal! It doesn't take long to keep it clean"!

I bought a matte black and never once considered a JB. I like matte finishes and I'm way too OCD for a shiny phone.

Jet Black is reminding me of the iPhone 3GS.. I spent an inordinate amount of time cleaning that phone.

I really like them both, and don't think pictures do either of them justice. Matte Black is darker in person, though I wish it was a bit darker, and Jet Black looks nicer in person and less smudgy.

To be honest, no idea why everyone cares so much, I don't care what color phone other people like. Pick what you like and don't worry about others. I pick them both.
