Jetpack Joyride 2, the sequel to popular iOS game Jetpack Joyride, is available on Apple Arcade as of today. For those unfamiliar with the game, it is part of the side-scrolling runner genre, where players control jet pack-equipped main character Barry Steakfries through multiple levels.

Like the original, Jetpack Joyride 2 features one-touch gameplay, and players can touch anywhere on the iPhone or iPad's screen to fire the jetpack to control Barry. The goal is to get as far as possible through the levels, avoiding all kinds of obstacles and collecting coins for prizes.

The initial Jetpack Joyride game has garnered more than 500 million downloads worldwide in its lifetime, and Apple says that the sequel builds on the original game, providing a new story-driven experience, new gameplay mechanics, and updated HD graphics. There's even a new character, Betty Beefpies.
Barry returns in a frantic adventure!

In this case, he will have new equipment and weapons to fight new enemies and make his way through the laboratory to stop the scientists' experiments before it is too late. The evolved adventure of Jetpack Joyride with new HD graphics, new animations, new mechanics and a new way of playing.
Apple today is also announcing content updates for Simon's Cat - Story Time, Cooking Mama: Cuisine, and Nickelodeon Extreme Tennis.

Apple Arcade is priced at $4.99 per month, and up to six members of a family can play games with a single subscription. Apple Arcade content is available to play on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV.

This is why the majority of people hate Apple Arcade and why mobile gaming is an absolute joke.
I am not sure that's the reason people hate Arcade. In fact, many people love the model of a $5 subscription to so many games with no ads and no IAP. What they hate is that most of the games are trash, but the selection of games, of course, is the most crucial part in the first place.

Apple Arcade – The game cemetery
Game cemetery? That's the first thing you think of when you see Jetpack Joyride 2? o_O

Agreed, but I wouldn't call the sequel to such a legendary mobile game "trash" whatsoever. 🤷‍♂️

As an Apple One subscriber I enjoy Arcade for the $1/m I'm paying. I preinstalled Jetpack last night, on my MBP it had some issue with connecting to game center, but I didn't have time to look into it, just played on iPhone. Fruit Ninja is still my favorite mobile game, I miss having my PC for Fruit Ninja VR. No ads and iAP is great.

Great game. I have downloaded it from my account, without having Arcade. Thankfully I downloaded it back in the day when it was still on the App Store as a regular game.

For Apple Arcade subscribers who haven’t tried it, this is good chance.

So they removed the games from the iOS and Android App Stores in Feburary, and now it's an Apple Arcade exclusive with no way to download the game for free or for a set price

This is not the same game. This version has different levels and is not an endless run like the previous one. Download the game first before posting nonsense.

I'm not sure how I feel about this game. I'll have to play it a little more but it seems to have almost nothing of what I enjoyed about the original. I thought it was going to be another endless runner with just more mechanics/content but it is extremely not that.

It kind of has the vibe of Sonic Dash, but Sonic Dash was still an endless runner. But same thing where there are zones and then a boss at the end.

I was not referring to this game in particular. In fact, I think there are a handful of good games on Arcade, just not enough of them.
Oh, okay. Good to know! :)
Sorry Apple, I'm not signing up for some subscription plan just to play a game. However I'd happily pay the developer directly. You both lose.
I guess you must really like advertisements and in-app purchases being shoved in your face then?

Yes, exactly! 👏
Diablo Immortal and Diablo 4 comes to Apple Arcade from late 2023
kidding
I know you're kidding, but I would appreciate mobile versions of those video games on Apple Arcade. Maybe it'll happen some day? ;)

I think it's quite innovative. I wasn't exactly expecting a copy of the original with some slight changes.
Apple Arcade is not a bad deal. With Apple One it’s essentially free as I’m happy to pay for iCloud+, Apple Music and ATV+.
Yeah, it's severely underrated!

I have tested all 200 plus games and found over 100 that I liked. Played the original Jetpack game for that classic arcade experience. I don't like the games that get into a story mode or the graphics are 8-bit for being lazy. It is part of Apple One for me and I tend to a few games regularly and wish I had more time to play all of the game I liked.

Lego Star Wars for me is worth $5 a month for me alone for the challenging online gameplay.

Apple Arcade is a trash service where good games languish, and here's why:
  • Exclusivity. If a game is on Apple Arcade, it can only be played through Apple Arcade. Hmm what's that? You would like to buy Exit the Gungeon and Jetpack Joyride 2? Well TOO BAD! Subscribe to Apple Arcade or no game for you. There are a lot of games that got Mac ports but you cannot buy them on Steam because of the Apple Arcade exclusivity.
  • Redundancy. The majority of Apple Arcade titles are either "remasters" of mobile games you played 10 years ago, ad-free versions of existing mobile games, or indie games that are available on much better platforms, most notably the Nintendo Switch.
  • Lack of system sellers. There are some good games on Apple Arcade yes, however none are standouts that make you immediately go "I need to subscribe to Apple Arcade right now to play this!"
  • Gatekeeping actually good services from iOS. There are much better services than Apple Arcade, most notably Xbox Game Pass, that offer cloud streaming so you can play major AAA titles on your mobile device. Xbox Game Pass for Cloud is available on Android, but not iPhone/iPad. And why is that? Because Apple is actively blocking the service from the App Store. They have purposefully made it difficult for Microsoft to reach Game Pass to Apple users...but conveniently easier for Apple users to reach Apple Arcade. 🤔
So you may say "well you're fine with Xbox Game Pass and that's the same thing as Apple Arcade!" Not even close, because Xbox Game Pass is more a rental service as all games on Game Pass can be purchased separately to own, and Game Pass offers big discounts for subscribers to buy and own games should they desire. On Apple Arcade, it's subscribe, or you don't play.

Apple Arcade is crap, and Jetpack Joyride 2 being trapped on it is a travesty as now the majority of players won't be able to play it due to them owning Androids or because most people don't wanna subscribe to this garbage service.

I'll bring up again, the fact that the games are micro-transaction free is worth the money alone.

This point is not true. For example, the game Sayonara Wild Hearts is on Apple Arcade. But you can also purchase it standalone on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox.

Edit: For your Exit the Gungeon example, in addition to being on Apple Arcade, it is also available to purchase on Steam (for Windows, MacOS and Linux), PlayStation, Switch, Xbox, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna. I think they covered everything.
